Ok, let's face facts here. Just about every one of you got a piss poor education in the facts of life. Your parents were too embarrassed to cover anything but the bare basics. Your school went on about abstinence and scare tactics. And lets face it, your friends are the ones that taught you that she can't get pregnant in a hot tub.

Well, my cousin is about that age where he knows some stuff, but is lacking in some of the necessary facts. Nearly 13.

Would I be out of line if I sat him down and imparted some knowledge?

No, it wouldn't be out of line in the slightest. A better question would be if you knew about the "facts of life", would you be out of line for not telling a family member about them?

Who got a bad education in sex and affection? I've never heard anybody promote abstinence or offer a scare tactic, not even in a church. Parents, schools, friends of the family, and many others were always willing to discuss things in an open and honest manner.

My policy is to answer any question that's asked. If they're bold enough to ask, then they're old enough to hear the answer. I refuse to go into any sort of detail if I decide they're too immature; that's a judgment call.

Prometheus, don't break the kid. There's no reason to sit him down and have a "talk". However, you can let him know that you're there if he has any sort of questions.

That was pretty much my intention. For some reason I can't comprehend, I'm the 'cool cousin', so it wouldn't be so much of a "talk" as a chat.

We have talked about relationship stuff before, so it's not completely new territory.

Thanks for the input guys.

At thirteen, he probably knows all about the birds and the bees. If you try to talk to him about it, you'll suddenly go from the "cool cousin" you claim to be, to the "creepy cousin", who he doesn't want staying over.

And those Canadian bastards, and their honesty! Why can't they lie and decieve like their fat southern brother?

Wait like, two years. Then he'll actually have the chance to maybe use some of it. For now he's gonna be like "People do that for real?"

I know I thought most girls were abstinent, prudent girls when I was 13-ish.

Boy was this nigga wrong.

Depends how you explain it to him. If you have a chance, let him overhear you with a friend on the phone saying something like

"So I was with this bitch last night but I totally told her we have to wait at least a month before we have sex because that's how I roll"

or whatever the fuck 13 year old kids are talking like today. Don't turn him into a dork but don't make him a walking STD container. Not that you can ever have too much sex, but just make sure he's having sex with high quality girls (ie, make him work for it, not crackheads who are willing to suck him off for 5 bucks).

I digress, sorry.

No. But you'd have to be cool about it or else he'd feel really awkward.

Personally, I couldn't do it. Maybe if someone asked me...then I could impart some mo-fukin wisdom

My mom taught me all about sex and drugs and what not. Started me at an early age about 5 or 6 and I grew up with 2 of my sisters and alot of their friends that got kicked out and lived with us.

I'm confident in saying i'm pretty well informed and have always been so.

I don't think you would be out of line though.

No. My parents set me down and said it plain and simple. Sex feels good but there are a lot of risks. They showed me pictures of herpes and genital warts and I'll tell you what, I've always been safe. It's better to know what you're up against then to go in blind. And if his parents/teachers/preachers whatever are not going to take charge of the situation then for his health and saftey alone he needs to know what he is up against.

How did you guys get horrible sex ed?

My school didn't promote abstinence at all, they gave out condoms freely in fact.. in7th grade!

I remember her only saying one thing: "there is only 1 guarenteed method of birth control, abstinence."

Nothing else besides that.

I think you guys are blowing it up. My parents actually explained it to me quite well and so I didn't necessarily learn anything in sex ed, but I would have if my parents didn't tell me.

If they handed out condoms at my high school, (let alone fucking 7th grade) there would be riots. All over the state.

We got free condoms on.. grade 9, or 10 I think. Meh.

No, you wouldn't be out of line, but careful how you go about it. He's more than likely curious and wants to find out everything he can. Or else he thinks he knows everything already.

Just don't pull something like:

'So the um.... pe*voice crack*nis goes into the *cough* va...va...vagina...'

My sex ed went like this:

"Alright, now some of you have heard about sex?"

Did you know 1/100 condoms fail? That could be YOU.

Condoms don't protect against AIDS.

Everyone gets AIDS who has sex.

Abstinence is the only way.

Didn't even suggest using condoms, just clear cut NO to sex.

The have the birth rate of a third world country. :o

Yeah I live in Utah but it's less of a typical Utah experience the closer you get to the cities. Fucking pathetic, I'm getting out of this shithole soon as I finish Uni.

Utah is actually tied for most conservative with Oklahoma... ALL of our districts voted Republican in '00 and '04. Fortunately though I live right near the city where I can get a normal experience. Oh, and a good 70% of your (mandated) state history class is about Mormons.Mad
