Default Shrooms and SSRIs

I've decided to take a small amount of shrooms tomorrow (about 2 grams), but I am also on an SSRI and so I have concerns. I'm worried that the interaction between the two drugs could cause me to have serotonin syndrome, but I looked at studies concerning the two substances and pages on erowid and always came up with the same answer: SSRIs don't at all effect the experience with shrooms.

Does anyone know anything further about this or have you had an experience with it? I have a couple different benzos that I could take if I were to have such a problem.

according to erowid, SSRI will decrease the effects a bit. However, you should be extremely careful if you have a family history of schizophrenia.

I'm assuming that you suffer from depression, if so, do you see a physiologist every once in awhile? If so, I'd ask him what he thinks/knows about the subject. They probably know more about possible interactions than any of us.

That's a really good idea. I think that's the most useful thing anyone's ever said to me on totse. I was going to a psychiatrist every once in a while to update him on how I was handling the antidepressant but he retired less than a year ago. The closest I could get to getting advice from someone in that field was asking my boyfriend who's a neuroscientist, but has nearly no knowledge about drugs. Luckily, I have no family history of schizophrenia.

Why can you simply not take your SSRI the day you trip?

That won't change the fact that it will still be in my system. I'd have stop taking it for about a month in advance to really make a difference.

^^^ Depends on the half life of the SSRI, so we'd need to know that first.

To the OP: Yes, SSRIs will reduce the trippiness because they typically have better binding efficiency than most tryptamines.

I'm taking 10 mg of Lexapro, and I'm not sure of the half life.

You should be fine on that, but I would take a little bit more than usual on the first dose.
