Default Pregnant teens & thier partner.

Every week I check this website where people send post cards and such with thier deepest secrets written on them.

One really bothered me. It said "I could of been a father....but I was too scared." The significant meaning is that I know three girls who are/were pregnant, and within a few weeks or months of conception thier boyfriends left them.

Keep in mind I'm still young, my peers are 18-21 ish. It's not that I neccesarily give a shit or should but it's interesting it seems like a new trend around my area.

Discuss.

Even though I'm 16 and not likely to get laid anytime soon, let alone be a father, I'd like to think that I would stick around and be a good dad to the kid and help the mother out financially.

I'd see it as something I had to do, and I would want to do. I'd love the kid, I wouldn't let it grow up without it knowing it's father.

Also, link to website, it sounds interesting.

Got that right ;)

On a more serious note, abort everything, there are too many people anyway.

Makes sense. Teenage guys want to run around, fuck a bunch of girls, and have fun. They don't want to sit at home changing diapers, listening to their kid cry, and hearing their baby's mother bitch at them. Plus, the girl's all fat after she has the kid, so it's not like he would want to fuck her.

Ironic; I've been meaning to structure & launch some direct action regarding the added difficulties of teen motherhood - albeit a bit younger than the 18-21 you give, as this subtracts a number of obstacles such as "not legally allowed to contract for daycare" and such stupid shit - but... well, shit, I've got a lot on my plate, and it's sort of hard as shit to research until random chaos sucks me into a mob of pregnant twelve year olds who're having a discussion group about the difficulties they face as a nexus of entrenched ageism and its corresponding legal sanctions as such intersects with the societal ignorance, devaluation, and misunderstanding of the feminine experience of procreation and childbirth...

'n while that's probably a lot more likely to happen to me than it is to happen to most people for a wide array of reasons, not the least of which being that Loki, Raven, and Coyote team up on weekends to have a pro-JP lovefest... chances are still slim. Which requires other research venues and brainstorming of solutions. Damn.

Too bad, really. Few groups are as... discarded as expendable... than teen mothers and their offspring, according to current data.

I just remembered, I know a girl who graduated with me and got pregnant her freshman year of college. The dad was a year behind us, so he was a senior in high school when he got her pregnant. She had the baby in September and they're still together.

The first guy I had sex with, who is a huge asshole, had a kid with a girl in October. Ever since (I'm assuming) he found out she was pregnant, he's been asking me if he can come move in with me. He lives less than 30 minutes from the girl, but he wasn't even there when the baby was born. What a great guy, right? Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Interesting, in my area it seems to be the opposite. Not necessarily pregnancy, but marriage. I'm 2 years out of fucking high school and all these people around me are getting engaged. What the hell, makes me feel like a kid.

No, he doesn't sound like a great guy at all...

Yeah I just finished high school and found out last week that a girl from my year is 7 months pregnant and only actually found out 2 weeks ago.

Heh, 10 girls from my class got pregnant my senior year. And I go to a catholic school, and our class had less than 150 people in it, meaning that there were no more than 100 girls in my class, making the pregnancy rate for the seniors in my class about 10%. Nice, huh?

That's fucked. Yeah I went a Christian College. Uhhh.... Yeah, this is the only actual pregnancy from my year, most just got abortions.

What I want to know is, how does it take you 7 months to find out you're pregnant? Wouldn't you find out after, you know, one?

Oh, well yea, all of the girls got abortions, but it was still funny.

My aunt didn't find out she was pregnant until she was 6 months along. But in my family, it's normal to skip periods for a few months at a time, so meh.

I found out last week that a friend of mine got his gf pregnant. She's 20, and he's 22 so I guess that isn't too bad but he's of course sticking around.

All the chicks I know who have had kids young have had the father stick round, and in the cases when they haven't it was mutual (in really, those children are better off not know their piece of shit fathers).

This. But, since apparently so many kids got shitty sex-ed in school, or just can't figure out a) how to use condoms/the pill/etc. b) don't realize how serious/big having a child is:

I just happen to think that a lot of people really shouldn't be having sex, at least not until a certain age, just because they're usually entirely incapable, and it messes with the rest of their lives so much.

In my opinion... you should have to get a license to have children. You have to have a license for a dog, and I'd say a dog is easier to take care of and raise than a child. Licensing would involve simple tests, background checks, that kind of thing. If pregnancy occurs without a license... I don't know, mandatory abortion? Or just kill the child when it comes out, let those 9 months of horrible massive belly be a lesson to you.

Or maybe just forced sterilisation for all but those who are deemed to have genes useful to the furthering of our species...

But that's pretty drastic. Maybe just... better sex ed?

I'd agree wholeheartedly with a license, except that it can't work, there's nothing you can really do to stop people having sex and getting pregnant, and aborting or taking away their kids, besides being weird and wrong, would get endless waves of criticism/angry mobs/etc.

I've learned about 90% of what I know about anything sex-related on the internet, or through experience, and a healthy dose of common sense, which seems to be ironically uncommon.

For better sex ed, you'd need teachers who would actually teach it, which I've never encountered, many skip over a lot of things or exclude a lot of it, many feel awkward teaching it, so a lot of kids end up with a subpar, half-assed knowledge of what should be damn important and well-covered.

Yeah I got my sex ed in the same place. That and late night radio hosts who talked to porn stars...

I know licenses wouldn't work, but it makes sense.

As for teachers, why can't parents teach their own damn kids? Come on, how hard is it to talk about sex? Sure, it's awkward as fuck when your parents do it, but it's better than having your kids wind up confused and a parent at 12 years old.

Parents find it awkward, and assume they'll learn it from school, friends (lawd no) and other sources.

My parents were cool about it, it was mostly 'always wear a condom, don't do it super-drunk, etc.' and plenty more, none of that 'birds & bees' junk, they were blunt, but strangely un-awkward and effective.

Yeah... by the time my dad took me out to the shed and talked to me about it, it was already too late. Good thing I was smart enough and resourceful enough to work shit out for myself. I guess that's all we can depend on. Having children who are smart enough and curious enough to use the internet...

I actually had both parents sit down and chat one day, they knew I wasn't an idiot, and had common sense, they just enforced the important stuff, answered questions, and didn't distance me or berate me over anything. My sex-ed teacher sucked, she stumbled over everything, didn't know nearly enough (early 30's single, inexperienced), very traditional, so we got the most chopped-down lessons ever, we didn't cover the topic of sex much really, just a) use condoms or the pill/etc. b) ABSTINENCE.

Should've shown her what it was all about.

Haha, yeah. They love abstinence. Is that really an option?

*shudder* Nah, even as a student you could tell she was clingy, unstable, and likely a mess on too many meds. Oh, and fat.

They always push it, and is the best option really, but let's be honest, teens will fuck anything that walks, but they're skipping or ignoring advice and lessons to impact what really happens

Teachers won't tell them what really matters (most), or much at all, a lot of parents won't, or do a halfassed job for whatever reason, and teens have common sense (rare), guesses, friends' experiences, and their own raging hormones and emotions to make decisions with. Recipe for failure, really.

well i dunno what its like in other places... but at my school we learn't shitloads about sex ed. We were shown pictures of genital warts, someone with an infestation of crabs... gah! it was fucking disgusting. That was when i was in year 9. In year 6 we were given a very simple "Some of you will notice some changes happening in your body. This is perfectly normal bla bla bla" type stuff... like the actual technical part of penis goes into vagina and TA DA a baby is born.
In sex ed in yr 9 all different forms of contraception were passed around the class and at the end of one of the lessons we were given condoms (most of which ended up as balloons around the school).

End of that story, where i'm from they give us relatively good sex ed. It was the first time my teacher ever taught sex ed to a class and even then we all learned a lot (then again i had been exposed to totse by then so knew it all... except i didn't need to see the pictures *shudders*).
The sexual knowledge really shows as well... of course tehre are always stupid sluts in the school and all, but even those who are sexually active are insanely aware of the problems that could arise and so they are really careful.

I don't see why people make such a big deal... with things such as teen pregnancy, simply not telling people about sex will not help at all. Ignorance most certainly not bliss in this case

Eh. High school kids CAN make perfectly fine parents. I got wife pregnant at.. 15 or 16, and she graduated from high school early with high grades.

'Course.. I ended up having 3 sophomore years and eventually getting my GED.

I'd add a lot more, about sex ed and all that, but I feel hung over.
