Oxycontin Release Rate?
I was wondering what the release rate for oxycontin is? I tried google already, but didn't find anything.

Re: Oxycontin Release Rate?
I figure it's like taking 2 pills, one instant release and the other's coating dissolves around the time your coming down off the first one. :)

Re: Oxycontin Release Rate?
I know what you are asking, but damn if I know.
Like, example: If you swallowed a 40mg Oxycontin controlled release pill, will 20mg be instantly released, then 5/10mg per hour afterwards? Right? This isn't your answer, but I did find this tidbit of info:
"One OxyContin 160 mg tablet is comparable to two OxyContin 80 mg tablets when taken on an empty stomach. With a high fat meal, however, there is a 25% greater peak plasma concentration following one 160 mg OxyContin tablet."
Wasn't the 160mg pill discontinued? I'm guessing this info is from the time when they were still around. Taken from: http://pharma-help.com/oxycontin
Peace.

When in doubt, consult the prescribing information: http://www.purduepharma.com/pi/prescription/oxycontin.pdf

You know, I came upon that same .pdf, but it didn't show up properly at first, only the first 2 pages, so I just disreguarded it. Oh well, new info :)

Thanks
In contrast, OxyContin Tablets exhibit a biphasic absorption pattern with two apparent absorption half-lives of 0.6 and 6.9 hours, which describes the initial release of oxycodone from the tablet followed by a prolonged release.
So that means the half-life of the first bit of oxycodone that is released is 36 minutes, and the half-life of the extended release portion is about 7 hours?
The table on page 6 shows 10mg OxyContin to be almost identical to 5mg immediate release oxycodone, except the OxContin lasts 12 minutes longer than twice as long, and is ~4.6% stronger.
