couple SHROOOOOOM questions
alrighty so i'm having a little "mycology experiment" using PF tek and the jars finally finished. i dunked a couple of them (there are 6 going) and when taking them out of the jars 3 came out cleanly and the other 3 were really hard to get out so we cut them in halfs and pulled them out.
the mushrooms should still grow on the halves right? i mean, casings still work and the cakes are broken into little pieces so i don't see why it wouldn't.
im also considering casing maybe 2 cakes that are already broken up a bit, is that probably the best idea to deal with the situation?

Re: couple SHROOOOOOM questions
If the mycelium (sp?) is grown throughout the cake, it should actually increase yields, since you're increasing surface area.

Re: couple SHROOOOOOM questions
oh i also forgot to mention i'm using a perlite fruiting chamber.
it's a rather small tupperware box type container, maybe 8" tall or so....theres a layer of perlite like 1.25 inches when was moistened and strained. i have a garbage bag covering off just the top layer and the bottom clear part is open so that i can put it in dim light for like 5 hours a day.
the garbage bag is secured good. but when i lift the top and check inside it doesnt feel humid at all like you think it would. is thhe humidity supposed to be easily noticeable? am i doing something wrong possibly?

Re: couple SHROOOOOOM questions
If it doesn't feel humid enough in there, spray it, simple. :)

Re: couple SHROOOOOOM questions
4 inches is optimal for perlite. Can you take a pic of your fruiting chamber? Or at least provide a better description of it(whats the deal with the garbage bag).
Also, good luck in your grow :) Don't forget to take spore prints and maybe even donate them to the FSRC!!

hygrometer
No shit... they are so fucking cheap and effective that it doesn't make sense NOT to own one... you should have bought one long ago if you are already fruiting!
I love how easy it is going to be for me to grow mushrooms, almost everything aside from the spores and the substrate is completely free!
