Anyone growing mj is gonna order them from a seed bank. Not buy xx strain (which could just be bag seed) off some nigger. 'Cuz there's no way to distinguish x strain from y strain just by looking at the seeds.

Just pick out the seeds from your weed. Yes, you can tell if they're good or not. Good seeds are dark and hard. Bad seeds are soft and lighter colored, IIRC.

If you're a serious grower buying seeds, you're probably gonna want to see the sellers crop and test product before purchasing...too easy to rip someone off with shitty seeds.

There is a market for it, if there wasn't, there wouldn't be websites that sell them; just not much of a market on the street. Because any person can get a ton of seeds from any shitty brick weed sack, and most of them are pretty great too. I've seen some WONDERFUL plants grow from some SHITTY sacks of bud. But that's because most of that weed was pretty great, before it was so harshly bagged and transported... And since they didn't remove the males from the females while growing them... etc etc. There is no way to predict viability or strain by looking at them. But viability isn't nearly as important as other things, like percentage of chance that it'll be a female. If you buy seeds online there are many sites that sell seeds that are 100% females or whatever bullshit. But most the time they end up being hermaphrodites, not females. I guess that's what you get when you try to play god, especially since the human race is so dumb... But seeds aren't important anyway, all good dealers just make clones these days anyway.

Yes, growers are interested in buying seeds because..well.. they need them to grow the pot. There's no "street market" for marijuana seeds because with the multitude of strains out there you'd have no idea what you're getting, and if you're getting ripped off. In fact, you wouldn't even know until several months down the line. There's too much uncertainty. And if you're willing to spend the time, money, and effort into growing pot you're going to want good seeds. That means seeds produced for growing with a good gene line, not "seeds that my boy tyrone picked out of his mexican bag of triple crypta-chronic chronalite" - y'dig? So while it may cheaper to get seeds from Tyrique down the street, the uncertainty associated with that is too great.

You don't invest hundreds in growing equipment along with your time to grow mexican shwagg. That just wouldn't be worth it, now would it? ;)

So no, I'd say no market. If you want to break into it, move to Amsterdam, make some contacts, and open a seed bank.

Pretty sure I remember there was a site where you can get sent seeds from amsterdam, they just come in as mail, with a seed glued to a part of the envelope where it's hard to detect.

You can get seeds. Even the strains you want. What matters here is the breeder. Any 'ol asshole can say 'hey, I just bred some [insert strain here] with [insert strain here]. You need to do your research and find out who's who in the breeding circle. Find out who has grown out seeds from the breeder and have had good results.

All in all it's not too different from finding RC/pharm sources, but not nearly as hard. Find out what forum sites are good, and which are bullshit. Read, read, read. Find a good breeder with good strains that people have tested and reported back results. Armed with this info, go about finding a source for those strains. There are a million of them, but only a few with outstanding selection and service. Good luck hunting.

I guess no one read my post... *sigh* Let me repeat... Although many online sources can offer a claim of 100% female seeds, this isn't exactly the truth. A lot of the time, you will get hermaphrodite plants from supposed 100% female seeds. There is not a whole lot you can do about that... This of course destroys that selling factor though, so it isn't advertised a whole lot. ALSO, bag seeds can grow to be some INCREDIBLE plants. I know many people who have had WONDERFUL results with bag seeds. I know people who have ended up with purple bud or other brightly colored pot from bag seeds. This is because a lot of the times, that shitty brick weed started off as something great. It's due to the fact that they don't separate the males and females (meaning the bud will ultimately have seeds in it) and their cruel packing and transportation methods (They don't cure it properly, making the smoke harsh on the throat and giving it a bad taste. And due to their handling and bagging, they knock of most the trichromes, meaning it doesn't get you as high.) That's all that brick weed is, is stuff that could have been great, if the people would have taken their time.

If you want quality seeds and are dedicated to a decent growop buy seeds from a online company (if you live in the USA, if you're Canadian, just go to a headshop).

mahatmaganja420, I understood what you were saying, but I don't think the majority of people buy feminized seeds exactly because of the problems you listed. Additionally, not all strains come in feminized form.

Besides, why buy feminized seeds when you can order a packet of 10 regular ones, be guranteed at least a couple females (unless you're incredibly unlucky), select the strongest one, veg it, and then just make clones of it. That way, you also have a less chance of getting a hermy.

And bagseed can definitely turn out to be bomb weed. I wasn't doubting that claim, or dissing it. I grew out seeds from a bag of mids and the smoke turned out to be better than any mids I've ever smoked. Not quite headies/dank, but it was up there.

But if genes and environment determine the quality of the smoke, why not max out both? As the grower, you have control over ferts, light, soil, etc -- but if using bagseed, not the genes. They came from fuck-all-tim-buck-to for all you know...could be shitty...could be great. So why not pay the extra cash and know you're getting A grade genetics? That's how I look at it anyway.

Female seed are made by taking a female plant and then, with some sort of chemicals/hormones I would suppose, induce it to grow some male parts. These pollen sacks grow and then open, which the breeder then collects the pollen and places onto the pistils of the same plant. The resulting seeds are all female.

These are genetically hermaphrodites, which display mostly (99.95%) female characteristics. If the breeder knows what he is doing, you can hit that percentile. Most often, you get some dipshit who doesn't know what the fuck he's doing, or does it sloppy, and you get seeds that when grown out either are females that turn male, resulting in shit bud with seeds, or are plain out male.
