Birthday's alone.
I don't like seeing other people on my birthday, infact I don't even tell most people when it is. I do my best to confuze them as to it's exact date so they won't know, then I usually go to the cinema or somthing - I like watching films a lot. (Just for the record, I'm watching the 2 disk Independence Day DVD and I had no idea how many deleted scenes there are).
I'm not really adverse to what I'm trying to stop people knowing, I think it might just be a habit I haven't gotten rid of. I got it when I was 15 and in school an entire class of assholes that hated me an made fun of me screamed the happy birthday song at me.
And no, I didn't cry. I just didn't appreciate the sentiment, so the next year I didn't remind anyone, including my then-new-girlfriend (ex now), she wasn't very happy i told her 5 days after (some cunt said something and she asked me - I didn't lie).
Now I'm avoiding telling anyone again, although people know it's in the 20's days of febuary.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any similar things in their lives and/or if anyone particularly agrees/disagrees with it for whatever reason?

Re: Birthday's alone.
I know someone that goes into a basement and drinks themself stupid every year on their birthday. They think about everything that was bad in the year before and how it can improve in the following year.
It's good to have traditions, but that isn't the most healthy one.

I have the same outlook towards birthdays. I just hate it when people make it a big deal.

Thing is, I have a 'thing' (wow I'm so specific) about always doing something for other peoples birthdays, even if it is just a big hug or something.

Well if you are running around the world making everyone else you encounter as their birthdays being "special", then its only logical they would return in kind. To expect otherwise is pretty silly and absurd. You don't want the attention on YOUR birthday, ignore their's......its that simple.
Birthdays, meh. What the fuck did anyone "do" to be born, to be deserving of some elaborate celebration????? Once people hit puberty and are more grown up, they shouldn't expect anything......its all just attention whoring.

Re: Birthday's alone.
I like birthdays.
Mine or someone else's.
I like to give, so I get really excited when someone has a birthday. You know in high school, and someone in your group of friends would bring a cake? Yeah, that person was usually me. Except instead of some packet mix like most people would bring, it's a giant, made from scratch brandy cake stuffed with cream.
Yeah, birthdays are fun.

Re: Birthday's alone.
I kind of feel the same way. I don't like all the attention. If I had it my way, I would not have any friends for that one day.

Haha, I have plenty of friends and a life, but I suppose I could be less cynical. There's no real reason to be jolly about it is all.
What's you reason for celebrating your birthday, just out of interest?

I'd love it like that, an then the next day people could just quietly not make a fuss an smile an say hi or give me presants or whatever, just as long as they don't talk about it very much.

Yeah it's fair enough.
I've often noticed that sometimes a persons birthday celebrations arent for them, but other people.
How many people here when younger had big birthday parties? How often did you end up sitting in a corner kinda bored watching other people have fun?
I think it's fair enough, kind of. My mum likes to go out for a meal on my birthday and.. I really dont enjoy it. But I like the fact she's enjoying her self. I just wish she wouldnt use my birthday as an excuse. She should be able to allow herself to party whenever she wants. And I dont want to be involved.

I have few friends and tend to suck at socializing, that's why you should have a birthday party...or allow it.
Then again being fucked by that group of assholed=understood

Re: Birthday's alone.
Simple for me. I don't do anything special, early dinner with family then usually off with a friend getting retarded. Almost like any other day.

Re: Birthday's alone.
So do you lot prefer to spend it alone or with one or two friends at the cinema then a walk/smoke pot in a dark wood on top of a hill?
