Re: Why do people want relationships?
No, finding a mate/partner is perfectly natural, it's instinct.
It's just you, trust me.

People want relationships because the women of the world have unified to fabricate the greatest conspiracy known to man.
That relationships consist of a steady stream of regular sex. And that it's actually more then what you get when you're single.
And even those of us that know better, still secretly believe in it...because that's what keeps the world turning.

for me its an escape to great things such as simplicity.. means she has to be good for me too, and i got lucky. living in our own little world where i can smoke cigarettes and not give a shit about the rest of you human race, as you drag each other down with your personal struggles.. and yeah sex too, but thats a given.

I just want someone to hold, is that so bad? Maybe I'm needy or whatever, but I enjoy holding someone else in my arms.

Re: Why do people want relationships?
I really don't want a relationship at all right now. It fucks me up big time too, but I have no comfort in a partner. I donno, I feel like I complete myself, I just like sex on the side. I'm too busy to have the fuck with the negatives of a relationship, although there are lots of positives too I guess.

Re: Why do people want relationships?
although the first post sums it up nicely enough, I will finish / add my own unarticulate mess to the thread..
Affection.. someone who likes you! Who doesn't like that? And here's a thought, you can even touch them however you want, and hold them. You have the guarantee of sex, and hopefully some stuff on the side to make you feel warm inside. That's it.... m

Sounds like YOU dont want a relationship, not PEOPLE.
Just because you have an oppinion, dont class it as everyones..
That's fine, if you're not at a point where you want a relationship,really. It's not a crime.
I for one like being in a relationship.
Basically, I enjoy male company, I like being able to discuss games and Magic and sex and such. I also like sex. I also like physical affection and holding hands in public. I like playing computer games with someone who has an interest in them and actually knows what the fuck they're doing.
I like the support and oppinions of a male, they're not lying cunts like women can be.
So I figure I could just be really good friends with a guy, but more likely than not we'd end up wanting to be a 'couple' anyway, if the friendship involved all of the above mentioned stuff.
Relationships can be fun, if you get with someone who you actually enjoy being with, rather than someone you're with for the sake of being in a relationship.

Yoyo is taken, though I think everyone here has given it a try.
Magic the Gathering, card game/collection dealie. Involved various fictional creatures, wizards, witches, etc., etc., etc.

Re: Why do people want relationships?
I always thought the same thing till I had a serious relationship myself.
I swear some of the greatest times I had with her were when we would just take a walk, or sit on our couch and talk. Hell we didn't even have to talk, sometimes just being next to each other was a good enough feeling.
Sure you can have friends and fuck buddies, but at the end of the day you can't cuddle a friend or fuck buddy and honestly feel their love for you.
Of course you can't always feel that when you are in a relationship, but when you do...

Re: Why do people want relationships?
Fuck you all.
Every last one of you.
Relationships are what causes us to feel many of the emotions associated with the word despair.
Stop lying to yourself with all this "love" bullshit, and question all your real motives so you may better understand yourself.
Human instinct?
Human nature?
Whether you just want to reproduce or you like having a companion and enjoy the feeling of being wanted/needed by another person.
Fuck you.
It's all human habit.
Nothing more.

Re: Why do people want relationships?

Yes, we are all humans.
What bothers me is when people come out and say "Oh, it's human nature to want a companion and to have someone by your side that wants you", and "It's human instinct to want to have intercourse with a female so I can plant my seeds in her, reproduce, and continue the human race."
Sure, some people may want that, and if that's what makes them happy, then so be it. But people shouldn't speak for all of mankind by saying it's human nature to want a relationship or that it's simply our instincts that drive every last one of us to reproduce.
But of course this is an argument no one can win, because it's too opinionated :o

Re: Why do people want relationships?
I don't think its so much nature (our genetic makeup), instead its nurture (the environment you grow up in). There is a psychological perception of "how things should be" based on your observances and experiences. When its drummed into your head consciously and unconsciously, most people start believing it as "reality" rather than just "perception".
Simple example to make my point. Look how many posters posted....."boohoo, I'm all alone for the holidays" right around Xmas time. Whether mingling with their friends and family, watching cheesy movies depicting a perfect idealistic "family", or just seeing strangers in public.....all of their life experiences has taught them having someone by their side is what they "should" be experiencing themselves. But you don't see folks posting........"boohoo, its May 11th and I'm all alone"......because that day means squat. Pretty much its just a PERCEPTION that has been implanted in your mind.
Fuck keeping up with the Jones' people, and just ignore all the conditioning you've endured in your life. Don't fall into the trap misbelieving that it takes someone else to "fulfill" you.

Easier said than done. Such "conditioning" has been, in most cases, in place for 10-15 years or more. Stopping feeling like that takes time. For me, personally, too much time. I don't care if I could grow old alone, I simply don't want to and don't want to spend however long it might take to retrain my instincts. I'd rather just please them and go by them, it's easy enough.
To the OP: just look at swingers. They happily fuck other people, together, but stay as a couple regardless. Did you not, when pondering this great puzzle of puzzles you decided was worth posing here, ever think why that may be? Obviously there are reasons for relationships outside of sex, for the majority of people.
