Default Problems with my Dad. Again.

I remember about this time last year, my Father was riding my ass about me "making bad decisions."
Well that problem is over. I guess.
This time the problem isn't with me, it's with my mother.

It's a terrible fucking thing when you have to call the police on your own Dad.
Last night, I did just that.

Apparently he took a bat, and went up to my moms office (upstairs) and started yelling at her, and saying how he wanted to "bash her fucking face in" and telling her how he "dreams about strangling" her. At one point or another he smashed in the corner of a wall, and when my mom went into the bathroom upstairs, he smashed in the door with the baseball bat.

I had just come in from getting some things down at the store, and thought I had heard yelling on my way down to my room, but couldn't figure out what was going on. After my dad stormed down the steps back to his room, I realized what had just happened. And my dad calls me and says "I've got myself locked in my room, if the police come and arrest me, I love you."
And hangs up.

I go upstairs to my mom, who's door is locked, knock, tell her it's me. We talk. She said she wanted to call the police but was too afraid to.

I go back downstairs, and yelled at my dad. Got right up in the bastards face and screamed at him for what he just did. Never, ever, unless the person has killed someone, or is threatening you, should you use force to intimidate, harass, or otherwise imply harm toward someone else. I told him this. Then the cat runs in to the room where my dad is, and I go to bend down and pick the cat up for fear of the cats life, and my dad grabs me by the arms like he was going to punch me. He then asks if I "want to go a round" and I pull out my knife. I told him to back the fuck down or he'd be going to the hospital instead of jail.

After he kept making threats to my mother (she was now behind me trying to co-sign every thing I said) I decided it was time to call the police.

About 10 cops showed up, they talked to him, and because he only damaged his own property (the wall and door of his house) they couldn't do anything.

Of course I feel horrible for pulling a knife on my dad, and for calling the cops on my dad, but I felt threatened.
He just had this look in his eyes that wasn't him. It was like I was staring into the soul of a madman.
I'm afraid this problem won't go away, and if he's resorting to violence against property, it's only a matter of time before he actually hits my Mom.

I don't want to chose sides, I don't want to see my Dad in jail, but honestly, I'm fucking afraid of him right now.
I've thought about moving out (only 5 months till I turn 18) and the best thing I've come up with, is to volunteer at my local firehouse and live-in there. Unless my Mom can get her own apartment or something, I think that's what I'm gonna do.

Advice would be appreciated. Really I just needed to get my story out.
I apologize in advance for the fact that Totse isn't my blog.

Get your mom and get the fuck out of there. Your dad went after her with a fuckin baseball bat and the fucking police wouldn't do anything? That's beyond fucked up. At the very least, you could have him arrested for threatening to kill your mom, for assaulting you, and for harassing your mom.

Where do you suggest we go?

We've got like 2 options.

Option one: I go to the firehouse and live there. That would suck because I'd have to finish school get a job etc., but at least I wouldn't be living in fear. My mom on the other hand...who knows.

Option two: we go to her parents/my grandparents house. The only problem with that is it's 2 1/2 hours away, my Mom doesn't like driving on the interstate, and I've kinda got like 4 months of High School to finish. Could always get a transfer ASAP.

I don't even know where my Mom is right now. I'm trying to be as quiet as possible right now, I'm afraid he'll fuckin come after me.

Anywhere. You shouldn't have to live in fear that your dad is going to kill/harm you. Shit, go to a shelter or a church if you have to. Or call the police again and tell them that you're afraid of your dad. They'll lock him up for at least a night, so you'll have time to think about what you're going to do.

Also, what part of MoCo are you from? I'm from Columbia.

There is absolutely no excuse for any person to act that way, let alone a parent. You and your mother are obviously both in danger and the only option is to get your ass out of there, and get your mother somewhere safe. Driving 2 and a half hour on the interstate is nothing compared to being potentially murdered by your wacko father.

I know you must feel bad about pulling a knife on your dad and calling the police, but you did the right thing. You protected your mother and prevented him from doing something he would seriously regret. A lesser person than you would've just hauled ass out of there, but you took care of your mom. Good on you, and good luck.

Perhaps you could bring your mom to her parents house, and you could do the whole couch surfing thing and stay with friends until you finish school.

Yeah, I would get your mom, and haul ass out of there. You never know what he might do next.

You are a stronger man than I.

If I had been in your shoes, I would have probably used that knife on your dad.

Trust me you need to get out as quick as you can.

I went through the same thing with my step dad when i was about ten.

He would often become violent while arguing with my mom. It got to the point where one night he busted down the door to my room and strangled my mom in front of me while i was trying to push him off and yelling at him to stop

DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

Man, the thing is he's all calm and shit now (no apology from him yet though) but I know the calm won't last. He was trying to talk to me earlier and I just walked right past him. Fuck.

For a while, after I had been out, I was afraid to go inside. Then I fucking realized I've got every right to be in my own home without fear. I'm not 18 yet so he can't kick me out. I still don't like being here though.

Is your dad a big guy? If my dad ever tried something like that, he would be through a window. And it's not that I like my mother either, but you don't do that to another person.
