| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

Hacking In Online Gaming
Since the other thread didn't exactly spark discussion; what are your opinions on people who hack to gain an advantage in online gaming.

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
Depends on the scale.
In Starcraft I've been known to use a selection hack from time to time, because I find being able to select a max of 12 units at a time a bitch. The effect on an actual attack is a moderate increase in strength, but as a big fan of zerg I find that shit can get really crowded during a fastest game without a select hack going.
On the other hand, I think min and map hacking are pretty shitty (even though I've done them both).

I wouldn't call that a hack really, that's more of an interface mod or something. That's my least favorite thing about that game.
I've been known to use a stack hack on defense custom user maps although I feel they should be included. Most of them do include the lights on and off feature where you can stack your buildings on one another. Nothing where I gain an advantage over humans.

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
sometimes hacking in wc3 is a necessity, in some custom maps victory is nigh impossible without hacking.
in some of the dark deeds, winning is almost impossibly if your enemy knows what he is doing, im sure its possible if you execute your build PERFECTLY, but that doesnt happen.
maybe im just a sore loser, that needs a eye overr the sky in the battlefeild. it doesnt matter, im so good in dd6 that i will pwn 95% of people with or without hacks, all they really do for me is let me spend less time scouting/microing. Kinda like having a a automatic shift instead of a stickshift. its still very unfair though, but im too addicted to them to let go
I can justify them with some statistics and experiments which I have conducted on the matter.
technically it reduces my micro though,
I would never cheat in a FPS game though.
unless you count the bhop script a hack.. but i dont give a shit about your opinion on that, because its not a hack.

I like how some of you have disillusioned yourselves into thinking you're either barely or not cheating when you're using your hacks.

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
there were only ever 2 games I cheated on and that was starcraft and call of duty 2
starcraft : I had a maphack and used (can't rember the name now) but a command all at once, that saved so much hassle & time.
didnt use it excessivly and always played as though I never had it running never got any one complaining about it, nor did I ever get caught
call of duty 2:
now that was a differnt story, I used to be pretty decent at COD2, almost always finishing in the top 3 ranking's especially when I got going with the m1 garand (with out the hack's).
but I wanted to make my game just that little bit more consistent more kills faster knowing which direction to head for the kills (not from an advantagouse point of view just in what general direction to head from)
and I never got caught (well till I got serial banned from punk buster) because I always acted as though I never had it on never traced through wall, never aimed straight downwards and walked forwards to get a crouching guy before he got you.
then there where tactical games on the ' tactical-GOR' server haha I used to love that but I had to be ultra carfull for it to be legit on a kill cam, but I never used my rifle, or machine gun always using the pistol, some times enabling chaemeleon skins to make it a little bit easier, and owning the people on there buy they used to get pissed and / or think you where great, but either way they couldnt prove I was cheating.
good gaming day's, now I dont condone cheating and auto aim bot's piss me off big time if you ever get them, and I can usually spot a wall hacker a mile off, but if people wall hack thats their choice an they run the risk of getting banned.
just before a hoard of flames apear, COD2&SC were the only games I ever cheated on, and I rarely play PC games anymore anyway and there isnt anyway to cheat on consoles other than exploit glitches which I can never be arsed to do.

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
Hmm... Lets see what ive used exploits on...
Runescape when i played in middle school - Full botting suite and selling acounts
Tibia - After 4 years of playing i made trash accounts and botted and used them as rune slaves. Quit in 7.6
Cs: Aimbot
Ive used packet sniffing and spoofing on several flash games with online multiplayer and accounts.
Gunz - Aimbot
Guild wars- Didnt hack but sold accounts
Diablo II - After getting two 92's my my own hand, i said fuck it, botted one to 98, and then did countless hell meph and baal runs 12 hours a day when i was sleeping/at school and sold to item sites. Never got banned.
And thats about it. I currently play WoW and Quake 4 almost every day and have never used a single cheat on either of them. And no, i dont just suck at FPS. Its just not worth giving a spawn camped a fair chance, sometimes.
So go ahead. Flame away. Tell me im the sole reason online games suck. Ive heard it all before.

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
MMO cheating doesn't bother me generally as it hardly affects me.
Never cheated in an FPS.
I don't cheat and I wouldn't because it takes the fun out of the game.

Try playing a map here you get a 2000hp cultist up your ass 4 minutes into the game. its not skill, its just how many remakes can you take before you give up, or get lucky.
oh yeah, i hack the shit out of mmo's
*in warcraft its a guarantee that at least 1/2 of the players in your game are haxing

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
NO! nononononononononono! Fucking NO!
Hacking (cheating) is a pain in the ass. It ruins it for the other players when you're winning solely because you're cheating.
Now: when I used to play Halo, there was one guy who created a game of Blood Gulch, but it was hacked. Basically, all the weapons created an amplified explosive effect. Shooting a warthog with a pistol sent it flying wildly into the sky as if it got nuked. But, it was specifically designed for us to fuck around; we weren't playing seriously, we would just play with our augmentated physics. To me, stuff like that when you're just messing around and aren't playing competitively is harmless fun.
But when you're in a deathmatch and some guy is speedhacking while everyone else is trying to play normally, that's just a bitch. Don't be a pussy; play fairly. If you aren't good enough to play without cheating than either practice and get better, or fucking leave.

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
It depends, really.
There are the good hacks who enhance certain features, without giving you any advantage against opponents. In starcraft, for example, that would be advLoader. It allows you to see your APM (actions per minutes), allows you to see everything the players do when you're observer in a game, autosaves the replays, alerts you when someone is mineral hacking and plenty of the other things.
Then there are the bad ones, intended to allow cheating, such as the obvlion hack for Starcraft. Maphacks, mineral hack, drop hack, etc. And since blizzard won't do shit about it, battle.net is now crowded with cheaters. Most of the times I'll log on, I'm like 99% sure to get at least one game some guy using a hack (from oblivion). I also get often dropped, which is also very frustating.
At least, there are the private servers such as ICCup who offers you to use an anti-hack and tells you whether a player has his anti-hack on or off, allowing you to chose whether or not you want to play against him.

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
I've loaded up hacks in CS a few times for the lulz. I've never seriously played with them on though, that's pathetic, it's just funny making it blatently obvious and seeing how long it is before you get found out.
Saying this though, I've had some epic games where there's been hackers on servers. You know when it's like 3am and you've been cotching with same people in a server for an hour or so, then some hackers join. It's great trying to 'outwit' them. I remember the times where there'd be like one hacker on each team, and they'd be like our 'generals' who lead us into battles. Fucking brilliant not worrying about the bomb, but just trying to hunt the other team town. Then there's making turtle formations against speedhackers Hehehe.

I dont really agree here, I noticed that when I was cheating at counter strike (just to piss those leet kiddies off) I saw things differently and took that knowledge with me when I wasn't cheating.

when its a game of skill, where you gain a bull shit fag advantage by staying in a wall then its gay.
If you fucking hack to get some money in a MMO good for you, I agree with it cause MMOs are a waste of time, so why not take short cuts.

Re: Hacking In Online Gaming
Hacking games online is pathetic. Your cheating everyone and your just sucking hardcore ass by doing so. Then when you can't cheat you suck even more ass and everyone hates you, then you fail at life.
The End.
