the "I'm spoken for" effect
I don't flirt. I don't hit on girls. I don't try and pretend like I'm cool, I'm honest about my flaws (depression, drug use, addictions I have/had), and I don't listen to popular music or anything, so there's not a lot to relate to most girls on. I act like I would if I was talking to a guy.
And yet, there are two girls I know for a FACT I could effortlessly get with (and would, probably, if I weren't with someone). I mean, I don't usually go bringing up the fact that I have a girlfriend, but I don't really lead anyone to believe I'm particularly interested in them. I'm not trying to get them into me, to game on them or whatever... It's just happening. I mean, I never do...
Does anyone have any idea why? Is it just 'cuz I'm that damn sexy?

Re: the "I'm spoken for" effect
Maybe it's because you don't give a shit. You're not trying and they want to know why. They think it might be something to do with them so they try hard to make sure they can get you, thus validating themselves as acceptable human beings and mates.
Or maybe not.
I just pretend I'm a Canadian DJ.

^that, and
"this other girl thinks he's datable, so he must be desireable..."
They actually do this. Weird. I know. It's like 2nd grade when I wanted the red truck only cause all the other kids wanted it.

Re: the "I'm spoken for" effect
Very real effect actually. You do seem more desirable and attractive when you're with a girl. I get easily double the number of random girls looking at me when I'm with a female friend or gf than alone.

Re: the "I'm spoken for" effect
A lot of mannerisms and behaviour change when you're with someone. Subtle differences but women will pick up on them.
These differences in mannerisms and behaviour stop you from looking at them a certain way or saying certain things, which makes them comfortable as they are talking to someone who doesn't seem like he just wants to jump in the sack with them.
That or you pose a challenge...You're off limits to them and are making it obvious by not trying to bed them so they have to see if they can get you to give into temptation and do something with them.
That's the ego trip thing. Makes them feel good knowing that even though you're with someone, they are still desirable.

Re: the "I'm spoken for" effect
Dude almost everybody has at least a couple of girls they could have any time they want but for various reasons they choose not to.
I have never noticed this spoken for effect, but then again I still look for girls to fuck even if I am in a relationship so maybe that's why.

TRUE, the reason, not that desperate. Ive seen many a times when like the option was made obvious/open to me...but for me its like a Bond from the bank. I seal my "funds" up with the bank, then after time it matures and i can get double the value back. I do work and get at a certain level with a female, then keep it neutral for a while, come back and start back at it again where i left off and zip back picking up "double" my value.

Haha fuck yeah I know exactly what you're saying.
But yeah this effect is completely true. I have a girlfriend and I feel like a lot more girls chase after me because they know I'm "taken." Naturally I guess people go after what they cant have.

I can feel yah on that one, I think they just make the assumption that since you ran it on them, that other girls must be chasing you/and or they realize you have many options when it comes to girls...and that if they want you they better get to moving.

Re: the "I'm spoken for" effect
I have around three that would probably date me or "hook up" if given the chance. They weren't that way before I started my current relationship. I try not to flaunt that I'm taken, because it can make some friendships awkward for me.
Whoever said this is because you act more comfortable is likely correct. One of the three I had a major attraction to many months ago. I remember once, when she just smiled at me, I did back, and then dropped my head down for some reason. Nervousness, I suppose. Now, I look her in the eye when I speak with her. I don't particularly flirt, and she knows I'm with someone. I dunno....

Because there is someone with you they think "there must be something going on with him" and that is why.

Re: the "I'm spoken for" effect
We all want what we can't have. Simple as this. Fact: People sporting wedding rings get hit on more then people of equal attractiveness then those without.
EDIT**
No it's not! They don't know I'm taken.
In this case, it's just because your awesome.

Re: the "I'm spoken for" effect
You know whats even more mysterious than this "I'm spoken for effect"?
The "I have a kid" effect.
Really, babysit some kid and take em to the park or mall or something.
You'll see.
