How much does clothing matter?
Girls how much does clothing effect the way you see a guy?
Does it make that much of a difference if someones wearing very nice looking clothing.
Like lets say a 8 is wearing shitty clothing and a 5 is wearing extremely good clothing do you notice and in the end does it really matter?

Re: How much does clothing matter?
It depends. I know a guy who always wears polo shirts and khakis, but that's literally all he ever wears. He has 7 sets, one for each day of the week. And he wears tighty whities. In that case, dressing 'nice' is a turn off.
Actually, I don't really like guys who dress nice, because that usually means that they're materialistic (is that a word?) and shallow. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that a guy can dress like a total bum, but for the most part, as long as your clothes are clean and you don't wear the same thing every day, I don't care.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
Clothing matters A LOT. How a guy dresses shows that he takes care of himself and therefore would probably be better at taking care of you (although thats probably a falsehood) and it also reflects his personality a bit.

Because taking care of yourself means you're materialistic. I can only imagine you're clean.

Since when does wearing nice clothing mean you take care of yourself?
As I said before, I really don't care what kind of clothes a guy wears, as long as they're clean.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
It depends.
I wouldn't expect him to wear full dinner suit for just hanging around the house, a trip down to the markets or a house party. In those cases as long as what you're wearing is reasonably clean, yeah it's alright. But I think if you're going out (say dinner, club, somewhere nice) a small amount of thought should go into what you're wearing.
I like people (not just men) who are well presented.
However, being well present isn't just what you wear, it's how you carry yourself and it's how you project yourself. Clothes don't always make the man.

I am thinking of starting to subtley dress up like a pirate. No eye patch, that'd be too obvious. But maybe just a striped shirt, and a bandanna. I'll grow my beard out again, and squint at people.
Women on a scale of 1-10, how wet would that make you?

-im with stupid
-im the guy your mom warned you about
-i got this shirt for my girlfriend(best trade i ever made)
-define girlfriend
-to all you virgins, thanks for nothing

Usually I hate you, but <3 <3 <3
I used to be into wearing good clothes but I decided it was stupid. My regular wear is jeans + wifebeater or jeans + plain shirt. Clubbing I wear dress shirts with jeans or kakhis, and shiny shoes. Shiny shoes and a blazer will do it for most women.

Let me tell you right now, factual evidence....IT MATTERS, im proof of that. I dressed literally almost like a near bum in high-school then the last years i stopped being a fuck and bought nice clothing(polos, button ups). I wore this shit, hey what do you girls i never talked to before once start chatting at me now, and i get looked at upon with a better attitude.
What happens when you see a girl dressed a certain way PAL? Im sure you like oooh man did you see thaT?!??! but then if shes dressed like shit youll be like OH MAN that girl needs work done. Its fucking exactly the same both ways from both point of views.

As long as it's clean and not gangster/wigger/chav I'm fine.
No matter how hot, clean, and generally awesome a guy is, if he's wearing a do-rag, velor tracksuit, jeans sagged to his knees, or obsessive amounts of g-unit apparel, I'm probably not going to give him a chance. I know it's shallow and bad, but I assume anyone stupid enough to dress like a 50 Cent wannabe isn't worth conversing with.

Bulshit then that'd mean id be howling over, fat chicks, skinny bitches, ugly girls in general, and like older women. Its winter now, girls ain't showing shit, so now what do you have to go off of with no skin?
I look at their face/body, w/e one comes first then i check the other out...and that quickly makes me decide mentally.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
A reasonably good looking guy can look really good with clothes that work. But I don't mean dressing fancy or preppy. Mostly I just mean that the clothes fit (not gigantic and no fucking tiny shirts) and maybe there's a bit of style. But the style thing is not nearly as important as fitting. It's just a bonus

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I have actually been thinking a lot about my clothing. I am an interesting and eccentric guy, yet I wear boring clothes. In other words I present myself poorly because though I am extremely awesome/interesting I dress almost like I'm homeless.
I think with women, that as important. In my experiences and observations, they go more for the total image of the guy rather than how he physically looks. My image is crap and not really reflective of me.
I am going to take one of my girly-friends shopping with me (as I have no coordination/style) to get me some rad threads when I head back up to Wellington. I am seriously going to give the pirate thing a go. That's just how I roll.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I'm a dude, but...
Right up until I was saay, 19, I just wore whatever felt okay.
I refused to wear anything too fashionable. I liked it neat and simple. Not ugly, but not exactly stylish. Just an okay pair of jeans, a basketball jacket of some sort, and a t-shirt of my liking.
Aaand then... I worked in this daycare thing, the only male there, and the ladies decided that they wanted a stylist to come over just for fun. The deal is, you pay in a few bucks, he comes in and tells you a few basic principles about fashion, the optical illusions, and what looks good on you.
Since that day I've been pretty fashionable. That motherfucker fixed me up, and damnit it made me feel good. And you know what? I get compliments from girls, and I can totally tell that they're way more interested now then in my shitty dressed days.
I mean let's be honest. Sure the outcast sluts that populate totse may claim that they don't give a shit about clothing. What does that tell you? Real life desirable girls probably do give a shit about clothing!
If you made a survey elsewhere, not just on totse, you'd probably see 80% of females saying they do care how guys dress, at least if they were honest. Why not use those numbers to your advantage?

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I wear clean etnies, a nice pair of American eagle jeans, a fox belt, and a various collection of etnies, quicksilver, football, local basket ball team shirts, element shirts, and a different element/volcom hoody every day from a collection of 15. And a simple gold chain. I never wear anything twice without washing it.

Yes, it's very important. Take this example-
http://i18.tinypic.com/7yn62jd.jpg
Notice the dollar signs and diamonds on the overcoat which indicate an upper-stratus income, and the wolf emblazoned on the pants which naturally attracts a woman's eye to the groin region. This ensemble is both classy and masculine at the same time. Do you think this guy gets rejected every night? Forget about it.

Important enough that if a guy just doesn't care for his appearance and/or can't dress half-decently, I'm fairly turned-off. A guy that can dress nicely is hawt and if I'm gonna dress nicely (which I do, I feel very uncomfortable in casual clothes) then I expect some effort back!

There's your problem. I feel very comfortable in casual clothes or no clothes. I'd rather a girl who can wear my shirt and boxers in the morning than someone who's going to run to the washroom first thing to put on make up and pretty themselves up.

This one. Girls who have to have 5lb of makeup on all the time annoy me, srsly. Casual ftw 90% of the time.
I'd say that it makes you look nicer/clean and that you take care of yourself. You look like you respect yourself, so you'll get respect and attention in return, rather than some constantly dingy/dirty fuckhead.
That said, I very very rarely dress up, usually it's some sort of tee, or a polo, or a sweater. Mostly jeans, and the odd khaki.
I did start actually caring about style in my last year of HS, past that it was whatever I found comfortable (which is, to an extent, all of uni). I did like some polos/etc. so i bought a few of those, new jeans and so on, and it did definitely make a difference. It's shallow, but the visual impression you give to others is a big deal. Don't go nuts, but have some semblance of style and caring about yourself.

I probably only wear make up 3-5 times a month? I said dress nicely and take pride in their appearance, I dont feel comfotable in track pants and a t-shirt, thats about it.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I usually wear:
Levi's
Brown leather belt
Converse (black and pretty beat up, but I like the way they look)
and a t-shirt
My shirts tend to be pretty plain, and I like to wear them tight. I'm tall (6'1"ish) and skinny, so I like to wear larges for AA and whatnot and Medium or Large everything else. I hate those beefy t-shirts so Larges are too loose on us non-fat people . The only joke shirt I have really is a "People's Republic of Berkeley" one.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I decided I'll contribute to the thread this time:
I'm in college, and it's fucking cold right now, so I've been wearing comfortable sweat pants or whatever (not "overweight working mom" sweatpants - no bullshit elastic; decent ones that have the university logo and or stuff like that on them) with a t-shirt and hoodie that looks acceptable with said pants. When I feel like actually getting dressed in the morning I put on jeans and a good t-shirt. When I'm going out to a party or something I usually just do jeans with a nicer t-shirt and I generally throw on a collared shirt of some kind, nothing fancy, usually one of those striped deals from AE or whatever. Oh and for shoes I have a pair of comfortable white and gray low-cut Pumas that I wear 99% of the time. Basically, I don't go out of my way to look great, but I keep myself clean and my clothes are all more or less in style. I get pretty much the same (good) responses from girls no matter what I'm wearing, so I figure I must be doing something right.

I think clothes and appearance are what people base their first impressions of you on. They don't really have any other evidence with which they could add it to, so they kinda have to.
I wear black leather ankle boots, dark jeans and a shirt with buttons, usually half undone...
It seems to get good reactions.

Then I don't think you get such good reactions as you said you do... unless that's your thing, in that case alrighty, whatever floats your boat.

I see tons of chicks all up on gay and/or effeminate guys. It sucks being one of the last vestiges of true manhood in my culture. I hate postindustrial society...

Yeah, but if they think you're gay, good luck getting to sleep with them vs. someone who they know likes them and know is straight, and also happen to like or find attractive.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I'm also in college in NY where it is cold, so to class I usually wear baggy sweat pants from AE and a wigger hoodie or jacket, simply to keep me warm.
My normal style of dress usually consists of polos, button-ups, a pea coat or trench coat depending on what I'm wearing or how the weather is. I find myself having to wear a suit a lot and it definitely draws positive attention. All of my jeans I buy at the Gap because they are standard looking...no stupid fades, bleach stains on the asshole, gay looking bell bottom or bootlegs...just plain looking jeans that aren't too tight, but aren't baggy.
With jeans I also wear a lot of those sweater looking type shirts that have a zip up at the collar.
THat being said, I think if you want to draw attention from the opposite sex, you should dress accordingly to your surroundings. As a college student nearing graduation, I want to project an image of success, because I want to attract a girl who thinks similarly. Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie...that all might be in style, but I'd never wear it out because, other than a quick fuck, I have no interest in the dumb blonde wannabe surfer scene.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
personally this is what i wear... you guys are ganna hate me...
i wear graphic tees from express, or guess, these usually cost about 20-30$ per shirt... i wear a wide ranges of jackets, and i like $60 jeans with the holes from american eagle. a lot of what i wear is tight, sometimes i'll throw on a thin hoodie with those (and put leave up the hood when im outdoors, makes you look deeper). for shoes i wear classic shoes or basic ones, in my case acis tigers (looks like puma romas, but more expensive). this is active or daily wear.
when i want to dress to impress i would put on a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and do something with my hair, maybe a fro hawk.
i spend like $200 on clothes a month. its not that expensive if you guys think about it, you guys probably waste $5 on a meal everyday, thats like $150 a month...
and i dont even think i dress too trendy, but i do try to stick out a bit, i hate how LA is so into images.
anyways, image does matter, clothes wise.
i used to not care so much, but if you think you're looking better, you'll probably have more confidence, and that'll mean you'll act cooler, and have more girls ;)

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I wear a black t-shirt (no band loyalty)(sometimes button down with a a collar) and baggy blue jeans but, not to the point where they sag to far ( like and inch or two below waistline). with a brown Vans sweater for warmth during the cold mornings. My shoes are skater even though I don't skate. Some joke shirts are funny some are gay "Mary was only a Virgin if you don't count anal" from t-shirt hell would probably be a turnoff and I only wear them when I'm having a day in. I also wear a studded leather belt.
How well do I dress out of 10 from 1

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I usually wear normal, not too loose and not too tight jeans on my waistline, wranglers and levis, just whatever I can get my hands on. I usually wear shirts without a brand, but I recently got some Billabong, Hurley, and Quicksilver shirts for free and wear those since that's right about what I'd buy if I had the money (and the inclination). Tennis shoes, nothing special.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I wear jeans, work boots/ tennis shoes, plain white T shirt and a bomber jacket (in the winter or if its cold; I get hot all the time so I'll just wear the shirt and jeans.)
I'll essentially wear the same thing everyday. Don't give a shit. I'm comfortable enough in it.
Gives me the look of a hard working, respectful, well built guy.
Fine with me.

Jeans, combat boots, and a wifebeater. If she doesn't like it she can eat a metrosexual dick for all I care, I'm too much of a man for her to handle.

Word.
I pretty much only have one top, a black jacket, and I generally just wear jeans and black casual shoes out. Same shit every day.

Re: How much does clothing matter?
Shorts, tshirt, thongs (flip flops, whatever).
It's summer, so I seem to be wearing surfie clothes (Billabong, Rusty, West, Quicksilver etc)
Jeans, runners, tshirt in winter. Or shorts and thongs.
Clothes matter; females are the ones you are trying to attract with them, get one to help you buy. One of my friends chose half of my shirts and whenever I get any action, I'm probably wearing one.
Don't dress like a freak or a bum, keep your shit clean and you're doing alright.

Nope, they just think I'm metro. It works. I'm not saying girls run screaming towards me, trying to grab my dick and ram it down their throats before it's too late. I'm just saying...

Re: How much does clothing matter?
I usually wear regular jeans, I don't like really light blue ones though. For a shirt or sweatshirt, I almost always have a cool looking sweat/shirt from a snowboarding company i.e. Burton Anon, others. For shoes I have some white and blue Nikes which I really like, and some black and white Reeboks which I also really like.
I hate wearing the same thing too much
I really try not to
