Default getting into heaven

ok, well here's the thing. On wednesday i had scripture at my school and i was talking to the guy taking my group and i asked him what particular sect of christianity he believed he belonged to. He said that the closest he could put himself under was protestant but he went to an anglican church because it was close. Anyways, he said that he didn't agree with catholocism because he believed that if you accepted jesus christ as your saviour then you were guaranteed a spot in heaven, whereas in catholocism you are still meant to good things and all that. I asked him what he thought if a murderer were to accept jesus christ. He replied saying that even someone like Hitler could have gotten into heaven if he had accepted jesus.

Anyways, so what are your thoughts on the matter? and obviously this is directed at christians so its pointless to simply say "yeah well thats another reason christianity is bullshit"... because i am fully aware of this.
But yes, do you think yyou only need to accept jesus into your heart? or do you still have to do good?

I fully plan on asking JC for forgiveness before I die, just in case.

Why are hard core christians not doing the same thing? Enjoy some sin before you die and then have a deathbed cry fest with the holy spirit of JC. Done.

LOL.

*cough* Emperor Constantine *cough*

Anyway

I belong to the 'all are saved' school of theology. I don't find 'heaven' , as most Xtians believe it, to be in the bible. Rather I believe there will be a Kingdom Of Heaven or a New World here on Earth and all that have ever lived will be resurrected to live there. Yes also Hitler.

Far fetched? Not really if you think of the advances in genetics in the last few years.

Thats right, I don't think god will personally call us all from the grave but science will be able to recreate everyone who ever lived. Like in the Riverworld book by Farmer.

Gross overpopulation?! Not my idea of heaven.

Now, if it were a giant brains-in-a-vat type of scenario, that's a different story.

Regardless, consider me inspired to read a new book of fiction. Riverworld sounds like a good sci-fi read.

To live a life as Jesus lived it is to be happy. He had the knowledge and wisdom that equated to happy living.
However, you don't need to know anything about Jesus to be in heaven. You only need wisdom. Wisdom comes from experience and experience comes from living. You can't avoid living and so you can't avoid developing your experience and wisdom. Don't worry about not getting into heaven. You can't avoid heaven. It's only a matter of how quickly you'll get there.

if god exists, im pretty sure hes smart enough to figure out this loophole, and would expect people to genuinely repent.

like if some retard kid kept saying sorry for kicking you, does that mean you should not kick him back because he apologied every time he did? hell no

If science becomes capable of resurrecting anyone who ever lived then I expect it'll manage to sort out the bit of overpopulation.

They'd sure have their work cut out for them. We'd certainly have to have more habitable planets than good old Earth to accommodate everyone.

Makes for a good sci-fi plot, but would seem hellish to live through, in my opinion.

My opinion: So he believes that just about anyone can get into heaven just becuase he likes that belief better, but cannot justify it with any evidence?

He just believes it because he wants to think it's an easy way for him and his lovedd ones to get into heaven, without the belief being based on anything more than his disbelief in the Catholic version of things is.

I'm just assuming that, of course. I could easily be wrong. But you didn't mention the guy justifying his beliefs and I assume he hasn't really thought it through yet..

We're told that if you plan on doing it, it's just as bad as not asking for forgiveness at all.

You don't plan on asking forgiveness for your sins? You don't realize you're sinning when you sin? Say, instead of confessing today, I confess tomorrow. Does that prevent forgiveness? What if I wait a few years? Is there some point of no forgiveness, after which I am inevitably damned?

^ It's bascally a case of being sorry for what you've done. You're either sorry NOW or you're not sorry at all. You can't plan on being sorry later.

Oh, I'm sorry now. If I wasn't sorry, that would mean I believe I'm doing the right things and am not "sinning". I'm just not asking for forgiveness.

It's silly anyways. Why not take it a step further and confess daily? Full coverage in case of sudden death. :P

The real question is, if I ask Jesus for forgiveness even though I believe I'm only talking to myself, will I be forgiven? I don't think so. Besides, I'll never be sorry for everything they say I should be sorry for.

I'm not saying i disagree with you, I'm just saying what I've been told.
Pretty much if you only repent your sins to 'get into heaven' but you made no attempt to not sin, then you're not truly sorry.

I.E. I want to do all these sins, and as a back-up i'll just ask for forgiveness later, but have no desire to stop sinning... That's not the same as

I am sorry for my sins and will attempt to sin no more.

I think that if you just have to ask for forgiveness and 'accept' JC into your heart, then that is a bit of a cop out.

I mean seriously. According to Christians that think like that I could murder all the people I want, rape as many children and elderly as I want, steal all I want, make as many other peoples lives as miserable as possible, but as soon as I'm like "Oh uhm I accept Jesus into my heart now." then I would get eternal bliss? Doesn't seem to work.

Also, I thought Hitler was a Christian anyway? Say hi to him in Heaven for me! I myself won't make it there, as I'm but a filthy Pagan :P

yeah, why would there be the commandments if even when you sin its ok? it really doesn't make sense to me, but you know, whatever. Also i was sort of under the impression that heaven was to be a place of good, no evil, therefore there would be no conflict etc, but if there were people like hitler etc there then it would be a pretty fucked up place

Leaving aside the fact that your sort of heaven ain't in the bible, if Hitler isn't there then why should you or i be there?

Are our sins any less?

Damnation and the whole idea of hell is a myth, promulgated and perpetrated by the priesthood as a means of consolidating their power of the flock.

Pope John Paul II--who was about as "eatablishment" a Christian you can get--stated in 1999 that hell is not a place or location, but a state of mind that we create when we consciously choose to reject God.

It follows logically that there is no such location as "heaven." After the death of the material body, the soul either reincarnates, merges with the Great Spirit, or hangs around on this plane.

Deathbed confession works. Even the sin of planning on a deathbed confession is wiped clean. All you have to do is really mean it. That's it. Read your bible.

Next, if Heaven is full of the bible thumping cunts who preach the Gospel, I don't think I want to be there! I really do not want to spend eternity with a bunch of vanilla sex having self-righteous soccer moms and evangelists.

It's not all you must do to get into heaven, only the most quoted and well known verse. In fact, most Christians probably don't know the other verses, nor want them to be known, lest they understand this conceived "heaven" is impossible for anyone to get into.

The stupidity of some of you people baffles me.

The definition of heaven is pretty much supreme happiness, peace etc. If heaven is going to be full of people who annoy you, then it's not heaven is it?

To answer your question.......NO. That is my point.

What I know of heaven comes from the greatest interpretation of this fabled land....Looney Toons. Apparently when you die, you get a white robe, halo, a set of wings, and a harp. I am uncertian if you can play the harp or if you spend eternity practicing. Heaven is on cloud tops and set of golden gates leads the way.

Go fuck yourself now.

The definition of heaven for me begins with "An insane weak person's fantasyland way of coping with death......."

It's a gamble, I know, but how else can a person have eternal happiness in Heaven AND fuck two chicks at the same time here on Earth?

Deathbed confession IS all that is needed to answer this question. It rocks.

BTW let me know if you all EVER go to a funeral where the FUCKSTICK preacher tells the funeral audience he is pretty sure the person being buried is in Hell........I have been to a funeral for a suicide and the preacher told his parents that they would rejoice with Mark in heaven.

Afterlife = Comfort. End of story.
