Weird/awkward when not drunk
First off, I have some sort of anxiety disorder, which I take drugs (legal-clonazapam) for. Anyway, I tend to get really nervous around women, when not drunk/taking lots of xanax. Considering that I can't be drunk/drugged all the time and there tend to be at least moderately attractive females around most of the time (university) it is starting to get annoying. Any ideas on how to deal with this damned chemical dependence?

Re: Weird/awkward when not drunk
First of all, you need to confront the reason for WHY you feel anxious around women. Inexperience? Low self esteem? Drug addiction?
All these factors are completely different ball games. Until you can describe to us why you feel awkward around women, we're just taking shots in the dark.
In my experience, however, because i have experience with both drugs and women (combined and not), you need to deal with the drugs before you are even CLOSE to prepared to having an intimate relationship with a woman. If you THINK you're addicted, you're way past the addiction stage. You're into the dependence stage. Drug dependence + women = double trouble, and emotional suicide when one or both takes a turn for the worst.
The best advice I can give with the information given is, treat women like you would treat one of your buddies. Don't worry about all that "friend ladder" bullshit. If you like a woman, and she likes you, shit goes down PERIOD at some point. Opposites do not attract, attraction attracts.

Re: Weird/awkward when not drunk
It could be just a part of getting older. I'll be the first to admit that I used to be SOOO shy around girls. I couldn't talk to them. Now I have no problem. Girls are no different than guys except they have a pussy and tits, and we do not. Seriously, that's the entire difference.

Re: Weird/awkward when not drunk
I'm 23 and I have yet to discover a viable solution.
I'm also clinically diagnosed with all kinds of anxiety problems. So that could easily be it.
And, to put it bluntly, I think that in cases like this, there is no such thing as a non-chemical solution. The problem is obviously quite deeply embedded in the mind.

Re: Weird/awkward when not drunk
You'll get over it man. Oh wait, you're in college? Missed that part.
Uhhhhhh... do what I do! Self-medicate with drugs and alcohol and adopt a stoic visage maintained behind a smokescreen of nicotine.
Edit: Do shrooms. You learn to embrace weird and awkward shit. Last time, I was tripping with some friends and it got cold so we went to my apartment. When my roomate came home, my friend Zach was holding a weird 50 cent cowboy hat on top of a pillow and waving it around, trying to understand how it had come to be on said pillow. When you can laugh about stuff like that, you'll be able to talk to girls.

Re: Weird/awkward when not drunk
Just stop being a pussy, honestly.
The fact that you bring up your condition is basically reinforcing and legitimizing being a pussy.
"I'm a sorry loser who can't talk to women, but that's okay since I've being diagnosed with X by some psychiatrist who goes home cashing in big pay checks he gets from pharmaceutical companies who really don't give a shit about me being a insecure twat who can't approach women as long as they bring in the profits"
What is the worst possible outcome from having a bad encounter talking to a woman, and what is the best?

It's nowhere near as simple as that.
It (at least in my case) has NOTHING to do with fear of rejection. It goes deeper than that.
And you can't argue with physiological symptoms.
Nervousness, sweating, stuttering and freezing up can't be overcome by "stopping being a pussy".

Well, technically that's what I'm doing. I drink every day, therefor problem = solved at first glance.
BUT... there are still downsides. Like I mentioned (money, health, etc).
That isn't an absolute solution. It's only a temporary fix.
