Default Cigerette smoke

So my dad smoked until I was about 3 and quit. I didnt remember until now he smelt like smoke and I was thinking 'lol wtf, he doesnt smoke' so I asked my mom and she says he quit blablabla.

Everytime when I used to smoke the smell reminded me of him, and I didnt know why till now. When guys smell like smoke, they seam like a fatherly figure to me. It pisses me off, my friends brother smokes and the way he smells makes me feel like I can go to him with problems, but I cant tell my real dad shit.

Anybody else have anything like this? Its really weird when I smoked it reminded me of when I was a little kid and all the things I used to do then.

I think most people are a bit like that.

I don't tend to associate that with fatherly figures because a lot of my friends smoke.

Such associations are very normal. In my case, although my dad smoked, its music. He used to (and still does) listen to all the old 60's stuff and certain songs always remind me of him.

Also when I cook stew, his fav meal.

Smell is a very primal sense and is quite commonly linked to memories and/or emotions.

There's this shampoo or perfume, I'm not sure which, but whenever I smell it, I always remember being a kid again, my heart racing for the few seconds before I got my first proper kiss.

Or when I smell Coco by Chanel...Always reminds me of my mum when I was very little. She always wore it.

Just don't ever have great sex outside a garbage dump. People look at you sideways when you get a boner taking out the trash.

yeah there are many smells that trigger memories for me. Not so much cigerette smoke, but that just because a lot of my friends smoke and i was the one that forced my dad to stop smoking... then again i still love the smell of cigerette smoke...

I'd be careful who I hung out with. No chain-smoking pedo/murderer friends for you.

Yeah the smell of dog piss and cigarette smoke and coffe reminds me of my grandpa.

Because he was a chain smoking coffe drinker with 2 big ass dogs that pissed everywhere.

I remember the smell of my first girlfriends shampoo. Whenever I catch a wiff of it off someone it reminds me of her.

Same sorta thing for me...I remember how nervous I felt while I was kissing her...And how my heart skipped a beat when she says "You are a great kisser!"...Oh how I groped breasts that night!...Then I remember the cold sore she gave me and I snap back into reality!

Bollocks!

All my smell memories are sad. The only ones I can think of right now are Swiss Army cologne which reminds me of one ex, and the the smell of pot and some other cologne which reminds me of another ex. Taste memories are awesome. Nutella and peanutbutter make me think about Paris. And there's entire CD's that make me think about places I've gone.

Now I'm all reminiscey and sad. :(

I don't get it with smell, but I get it with music.

For instance, a song of Nickelback's 'silver side up' album, reminds me of going to Germany when I was around 14-15.
It's a weird sensation, to say the least.

Pity I now think Nickelback suck, but what can you do.

Thats so true. I do the same thing with deodorant, but also I have an air freshener in my room and every 6 or so months I change it and save the old ones. Whenever I go back and smell them its unbelievable what I remember, you should try it Cool
