Default How important is their voice/accent to you?

The other day I was at my local drinking hole, and an absolutely gorgeous girl walked in. I was sitting there with my drink halfway to my mouth, hearing my friend's voice turn into a meaningless buzzing as she crossed the room.

She was 5'6", dark brown hair to her collar bone, wearing this tiny little dress. It was blood red and azure blue, stylized flower paterns, very pretty. It fitted her perfect body, perfectly. God was in a generous mood when he put this combo together. She was SMOKIN'.

I was in awe. I put down my drink, said "excuse me" to my friend and walked over to the bar, thinking of something I could say to strike up a conversation. Then I heard her order her drink "Yeeer, arl av a jug a Tooheys eeeehhhhhnnnn.... do yooz av bundy?"

Maybe vindictive, or mischievious, rather than generous.

In a second, everything changed. She was still smokin hot, I just had no urge to talk to her anymore. Her nasty fucking voice and accent just made her unnattractive to me. It was like flicking a switch. On a side note, I cannot believe a chick that bogan (white trash) could be formed so beautifully, or have the good taste and sufficient means to buy a dress like that... the mind boggles.

So yeah, how important is their voice and/or accent to you? Would it bother you if a prospective sexual/life partner had a "lower class" accent, or an "upper class"? Would perfect form make up for a terrible voice, or the vice versa?

\What, she was a brummie on holiday? That accent sounds like the worst of english scum.

I dont really care about accents much,it's not like someone HAS to have a certain accent for me to be drawn to them, I dont think about it much.

.. but there's something about a white man with a south african accent that makes me feel giddy. :)

Oh it matters...

I can not fucking STAND that accent you describe.
My gf (ish) has that posh english accent, which is just sexy.

Sometimes that blondish girly way of talking can be hot, because most hoit girls talk like it and its associetad with that.

If I were you Id still do her, but not in any way be with her, I mean, it would eat you up

i think small things like that can elevate how hot a girl is no matter how physically attractive she is.
i personally think english accents are annoying, but a girl with a mexican or south american accent is fucking sexy.

Certain accents are annoying, but generally it's because I associate them with certain types of girls that don't interest me.

Hot yet naive and a bit backward get on my tits.

I get some much attention because of my accent. I can literally say hello to a lot of girls and they'll be loving it.

To some extent, I think it's safe to connect the person's speaking voice with their intelligence.

That might seem a little harsh, but I live in Alabama... I've had plenty of chances to test this little idea. The thing is, everyone knows what the exaggerated, redneck, southern accent sounds like, but only the dumbest people around talk like that.

Generally, if they're a little more intelligent, they speak a little more clearly, and so on...

If nothing else, a person has to be very unconscious of the things they do, to talk like an idiot, so they'd probably not be very mindful of themselves.

So, short answer,
No problem with your view of a person changing a bit once you hear them talk.

As long as it's not a Baltimore accent, it's not going to make me lose interest in them.

The way I see it, accents can only add to a person's attractiveness, not detract (again, as long as the accent in question is not Baltimorese).

If a person has a "bad" accent, no points are added, but no points are deducted.

If a person has a "good" accent (ie: Australian, English, Russian), bonus points are awarded.

Fuck it matters. I work with this attractive girl at work, and because of her voice, i cannot and have not talked to her once 1 on 1. Its like a constant whine voice, and when she whines its like 4x as bad..i almost told her to get the fuck out of our office one time cause i was so fed up with it. It sounds like she got hit in the stomach, then is holding her breathe at the same time when she talks.

Other girls , if its because they are foreign that they talk the way they do it usually for the most part is hot...assuming the dont sound like a man that is. Especially if they are talking in that sweet tone, mmhmmm good.

I don't think it's fair to say accents reflect how clever you are. Sure maybe you might be a bit more intelligent if you went to a posh school and got a posh speaking voice.... but I know some really really clever people and I'm from Devon (South West England) and our accent is typically associated with farmers and generally thick people.

I must admit though some accents do turn me on a hell of a lot more than others, accents I like include Irish, Scottish, Welsh, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, The Queens English.
Accents I don't like include American, Brummie, Bristol, Cornwall, Scouse, South African.

Apparently I've still got a shade of an eastern European accent left, though I don't notice it myself (duh?). I'd say my main problem is speaking way too quickly and way too quietly. Past that I think I'd be ok.

With girls, I dislike some eastern european (north east europe?), backwoods british (posh/non-horrible slang is cool), redneck, new york/new jersey accents (because they sound trashy a lot) and a few other randoms. Though a slight accent of the right kind and as long as it doesn't impair speech annoyingly or something, it's fine.

I moved to north america with an accent, eastern european, and I have the tiniest trace left now. Your mind can re-learn sounds and structure and jaw/tongue/etc. motions, and for some reason poor language skills/etc. are a big turnoff for me. I'm weird, I know. O_o

I have the NY/NJ accent, and while some people may find it trashy, girls who aren't from the area seem to love it. I'm not even from the city, I'm north quite a ways, but everytime I travel South, everyone assumes I'm from NYC and I capitalize on that.

Unless it's a Southern fucking redneck Nascar trailer park accent, how a person talks doesn't bother me much. But if anything, I'd prefer a girl who speaks similar to the way I do....girls who talk that way are usually from the same cultural background, and I find it much easier for relationships to last if you have culture in common. Italian pride.

Oh, here's something I just thought of that casanova's post reminded me of.

Being from the east coast, I have an ear for 'east coast accents,' such as the New York accent.

When I first came down here to Texas, I had a job at an Italian Ice place. They don't have italian ice in Texas, so very few people who were from Texas would actually buy it. Most of my customers were from up north, and I could actually pick them out most of the time.

If a customer sounded like they had an east coast accent, which is very distinguishable from the redneck/spanish accent of Texas, I would ask them where they were from. I met people from New York, Philly, New Jersey, Virginia, and a bunch of other places just by doing that. It was pretty cool.

I dislike it when girls have it, but a guy with a NY/NJ accent automatically seems slick/more suave than a typical counterpart.

I dislike it when girls have it, but when a guy with an NY/NJ accent wears a tracksuit, slicks back his hair with way too much fucking gel, is constantly loudly eating a Philly cheese steak sandwich, and drives an IROC-Z, he automatically seems slick/more suave than a typical counterpart.

Fixed for clarity.

yea accents are interesting... They automatically put this certain persona on an indivual that's just... I don't know. I was thinking about this in playwriting when we were acting out eachothers skrips and whenever an actor put on an accent, their whole image totally changed. Sometimes accents can amplify their attractive nature but other times it can deaden it. For some reason, like okay, I deeply apologize if any asian is reading this, but for some reason, I get turned off a little when a guy has an asian accent. Like, I actually have a lot of asian friends that are dorm students at my school, and it just seems different talking to an asian with an asian accent opposed to an asian with an american accent. Like an asian accent just sounds so friend like, and just so cute. But not sexy. I did do an asian with an asian accent but it took me a year for him to get me. He was working so hard to get me and I finally decided i was pretty attracted to him but its funny because I think it would have been different if he had an american accent (cuz he was pretty fine).

Accents aren't important to me, although if a girl wants to talk with a thick Eastern European or French accent I'm certainly not going to complain. It takes a 10 to an 11, easily.

On the other hand I'm often thankful for having an English accent, even if it is a mish-mash of West Country and Yorkshire at the best of times as it works wonders abroad. Throw in a token line like "I work for the BBC" and you're guaranteed a mercy throw at the very least. ;)

I nearly slept with a guy once just because he had a really hot voice.

The guy I'm sort of with at the moment is Canadian, and I do like his accent, though I don't really notice it that much. The guy I was with before was American (doing my bit for transatlantic relations), but he pissed me off because he'd keep trying to do this godawful 'English' accent and he kept taking the piss out of my London/Cornish mashup accent.

Also, god knows why, but I find a Cornish accent really sexy... I think there's something wrong with me.

OI! it's nothing like the birmingham accent!

i'm pretty well spoken, grammar school & all, and i do prefer that over most of the local accents. there are few things more unattractive than someone yelling "wher am yaaa?" down a phone :/ fucking with the simple wordssss makes you look so stupid.

i once fell terribly for a boy with a fabulously thick, deep russian accent. it was all about the accent.

I like almost all foreign accents. I feel neutral to most local accents, and then there's a few odd ones that I don't like.

I find Scottish accents (of all types) irresistable. Most British accents are attractive to me, even the trashy ones like schemies. I don't like North American white trash accents though. I find Boston accents really unattractive.

I looooove southern gentlemen. And my boyfriend has a cute Canadian accent, but I can only hear it sometimes.

While I appreciate accents, they're not all that important in determining attractiveness. I guess I agree with robinhoody's formula.

It was New, not TED and my personal feelings regarding Bundy could be termed "unfriendly" at best.

Imagine if you crossed Pauline Hanson's voice with the worst example of pregnant at twelve, white trash in Australia... It's actually about the same as a small town I passed through in central Queensland now that I think of it.

Queensland does tend to have the most redneck accents in Australia. East coast accents aren't vague, they're just not as pronounced as inland/Northern ones (note that Canberra has a more formal/subtle accent than most places).
