Default First hand experience with Mirena? Any other IUD?

So I know I should ask a doctor about this but I just changed my method of birth control and I don't know if this is a sign of something very very wrong. I remember someone posting on here saying they use Mirena so I thought I'd ask: does the cramping go away after the first week or so? I'm not talking about lame period cramps. This shit is so bad I'll have to curl up in a ball and start cold sweating. I start feeling nauseous and can't even speak while the pain is at it's peak: this is even while I've been taking vicodin for a week strait.
I know they warned you that insertion could cause some discomfort for the first few days or so, but I don't see how it could possibly be this bad. I know better safe than sorry but I feel silly making another appointment and having them tell me that this is exactly what I should have expected....
So, has anyone had any firsthand experience with any kind of IUD?

My sister has a Mirena IUD. She said the first few months were hellish, but now she really likes it. I'm not sure what the 'normal' timeframe for pain with an IUD is, but I would maybe go back to the doctor if it doesn't start to feel a bit better after a couple weeks. Or you don't have to go back, you can just call and talk to a nurse.

Hellish would be the right word. No one else has ever used an IUD?
