Thumbs down "Without God, It's Just A Viscious Cycle."

This line was taken from some wierd advertisement for a religious group in the form of a paper taped to a window at my university with a picture of the earth on it.

Does anyone else see the incredible idiocy of this statement? Since when has there not been some retarded beliefs in dieties inspiring violence? WITH a god (or gods) it's just a viscious cycle.

Too many self-righteous douchebags are claiming that THEIR form of bullshit can save us all...

That is true.

Humankind has not existed without supernatural beliefs in things they dont understand. It is sad.

I don't understand the "viscious cycle" anaolgy, but without God you are meaningless.

You say "religion has caused people to die", but by your own belief system those people are no more valuable than the protozoa they evolved from.

Besides, when people die in "holy wars", that's just evolution, right?

The weak are killed by the strong.

You should be happy when "religion starts wars", because that's evolution.

"Vicious cycle" is a cliche that gets thrown around quite a bit. Cycles are cycles, and the cycles themselves don't decide to be vicious or kind, but people assign these attributes to them.

The image of Earth (which I'm guessing was circular) represents the cycles of the Earth. Some of these cycles could be interpreted as vicious and some of them as kind, whether or not God or gods have anything to do with said cycles.

For the bolded statement I would have to ask: How does god give YOU meaning?

I love how you capitialize holy wars and religion starts wars. Am I correct in then assuming you do not believe Christianity has started wars?

You are partially correct in your assumption that the holy wars are evolution. It is not biological evolution so much as the evolution of a meme complex. The evolution of a mind virus.

I do not need to invent mythology-based "meaning", your philosophical bullshit is meaningless. You seem to think things MUST have "meaning". Stuff means what we say it does, but that meaning is intangible and infinitely variable. You pretend to know my "belief system" ; value means different things retard. And no, people dying is not necessarily evolution, the weak are not the only ones who die in holy wars in case you didn't know. You must be insane thinking I should be happy for religious wars because bullets don't bounce off people who are more biologically fit.

Who are you to evaluate anyone's belief system? You seem to make the jump that just because nature doesn't "favour" humans over the protozoa we evolved from, we must also feel the same way.

No. That is, in fact, just people being killed over stupid bullshit nonsense.

I'll be happy if one of these wars removes people like you from the gene pool. Then I may consider it evolution.

Nothing is without God. Without God, there are no cycles of any kind.

You can say anything and consider it to be true, or false.

I usually say this:

No one, No one is born with the knowledge of god. You may think you were, but the idea of god is either learned from someone or created by you.

But, whether there is a god or not really has no bearing on this "viscious cycle."

You are so delusionally arrogant you think your statements are self-evident despite their lack of sense. Everything is without a diety, there is no scientific evidence that any exist. Why would a mythological belief be required as a prerequisite for "cycles"?

I assume you considered your last sentence insightful or something, but it has no relevance to the topic and I am at a loss as to why it was included.

Scientific evidence doesn't allow you to know anything.

The one thing that you know to be true is God. And thats as far as I'm going with it in this thread.

The term 'god' is absolutely meaningless. It's just a term everyone understands in someway, but few come to any sort of agreement as to what 'god' is and even these people are just making things up as they go along. Ask me what a shoe is, I will show you one. Ask me what god is and I have no foundation to respond with, beside cultural narratives.

Pretentious. He was insinuating that you are pretentious. As in, you hold pretensions that you possess knowledge or insight that you do not possess, and that you attempt to give this impression by saying nonsensical things so that you can later claim that people who call your posts nonsensical simply lack your superb insight.

Only by claiming to know I am nonsensical, and they know others 'truths'. What I am trying to imply, is reality isn't what you think it is.

Lazy and conceited, scientific evidence is the only thing the allows anyone to know anything to any non-negligible degree of certainty. You are so full of yourself, the one I know to be untrue is "god". Any belief in a diety is a mythological belief. Once again so retard is manipulating the definition of "god" to suit their simplistic, stubburn arguement. A god is not required for anything, it's just an ethereal bullshit concept that simpletons like you can't let go of.

Over the course of humanity, many different religions have dominated humankind. Why do you think those religions have died? Because people realized they were bullshit. They were used as a way to explain natural phenomena that we now know are caused by completely natural, and normal causes.

When will Christianity follow suit? :[

When people decide they'd rather live their lives than wallow in the fear of dying propagated because it's the biggest reason (aside from social issues, but thats a whole other deal) that anyone turns to a millenia old death-cult to tell them how to act.

Scientific evidence does not disprove God, either.

By logic, one is drawn towards the fact of a God.

How did/could a race as such as we end up like we are today?

For example, how could we magically have testicles and a brain to balance hormones and chemical levels? Evolution? I think not.

Why does Christianity continue to grow?

Because people realize that Jesus is the Light, Holy Savior of humanity, that came down and dies on a cross for Man's sin, so we will not perish, but have eternal life.

Because this concept of 'god' is non-falsifiable, because it is supernatural. How does logic draw one towards some concept of a god? You have a gross misunderstanding of what logic is and intends to do.

What is magical about testicles? What else is going to hold reproductive material? A brain? One is necessary to even ask such a question, it's not magical, it works on a biological level to help creatures survive...evolution.

If god is so perfect, why have so many species failed to survive and why are so many humans born with mutations, retardations, etc? Evolution is not perfect by any means, but everyone always says god is supposed to be perfect. What a failure of a creator

I dont think everyone would say god is perfect although I agree many would. I know lots of people who would say god doesn't have to be perfect to exist, nor did he technically have to be a creator, but than that makes the very idea of god irrelevant anyway.

In short, put your beliefs, faith, and trust in yourself rather than a "god"

A diety is just a way for primitive cultures to explain things simply when other explanations are lacking. Logic draws one away from supersticious bullshit. Science does not need to disprove mythological beliefs because believing arbitrary non-falsifiable explanations that aren't supported by any evidence is contrary to logic.

Just because you are to narrow-minded and dim-witted to comprehend the complexity of billions of years of evolution doesn't mean that it didn't occur.

Stubborn sheep are never in short supply...

Evolution doesn't always work out to the benefit of a species. Some psychological predisposition to believe in supernatural things and to personify inanimate things isn't beneficial to our survival. But perhaps is the result of different psychological mutations/evolutions that are beneficial. That or drugs.

Why not? There's nothing magical about it. We didn't start off with brains and testicles. We didn't jump from amphibians to humans overnight. Brains and testicles aren't irreducibly complex, half a testicle and half a brain is better than no testicles and no brain. It's not easy to understand how and why we evolved the way we did, I certainly don't claim to. I suggest you read up on it.

Jumping to the conclusion that God is responsible for something just because we, or nobody, understands it is stupid. God seems to be the default answer, and it looks like until science can explain EVERYTHING, there will still be a reason for people to believe in God and illogically denounce science.
