Hi S&A! I'm here to ask you all a question, what do you prefer, having lots and lots of friends and acquaintances or a having a small clique of friends who are very close to you?

For me, I prefer to have a small group of friends who are really close to me like I consider them best friends and the like. I choose this because as of right now, I consider myself to know a lot of persons. For instance, I frequently say hi to persons I meet at my university because I am really acquainted with a lot of persons. However, I feel like I am not really close to anyone. I don't want to even call some of them as friends since I barely know them even though I hang out with them sometimes . Furthermore, whenever I have a personal problem, I don’t know where to turn into. Overall, I feel alone with no one to talk my heart out. It’s quite funny, you know, since I can talk to virtually everyone but I don’t even have a best friend or close friend or anything like that.

So what do you guys think?

i kinda have both. there are best friends out of college, and there's a little group of close friends in college who i spend lots of time with, then there's loads of friends & acquintances around college and outside. the kind you'd probably go out as a group with, say hi to and mess about with, but wouldn't go out with them exclusively or tell them anything mondo personal.

i can count the people who dislike me on two hands, and i know a fuck load of people... But i tend to move between social groups a lot. Its weird. I tend to get bored of people pretty quick once i have sussed them out, and then i guess because of my attitude after that they start to go off me.

Im in the same situation.
I joke around and get along really well with most everyone in my class.
So Im fairly popular.
But i dont reawlly connect with anyone.

i love having a small group of friends. I was lonely all through years 7 and 8 when although i sat with a group during lunch and whatnot, i never actually went out with them... we just had a few things in common so i could talk to them, i would move from group to group never quite fitting in. I did have a best friend but i rarely saw her because she had her own sort of crew of which i wasn't a part of at all, once again they were all just aquaintences that i could have a conversation with if i had to but nothing more than that.
Then came year 9 when my school properly combined (previously we had been 2 campuses, yrs 7 and 8 were on my campus and 9-12 was on the other one). This was when i met my current crew. I actually have a group of friends that i can tell pretty much anything to and amazingly i am in the 'inner circle' of the group. So yeah, small group of friends but i love having the whole aquaintance thing too

I have a few good friends, but tons of acquaintances. I can't drive to work without getting waved at at least 3 times.

I have about a half dozen really good friends who I can tell anything to, then a bunch more who I talk to a lot. I have a few acquaintences, but they tend to be the kind of relationships where one person can never remember the other's name.

I tend to have one or two really good friends, don't really have time for any more. I have lots of people I occasionally do things with. I used to have lots of regular friends and we'd do things as a group but then we're really talking about a lot of wasted time doing nothing important.

Friends come and go and it aint worth yer time not to have more friends although some people can be morons. Just make sure you know is somebody wants something from you and what you can get out of people.

I've got 4 simple ways of classifying friend relationships

good friend (best friends and stuff)

friend's ( people you've hung with before or do on occasion)

aquaintances (just basic citizens)

enemys (former friends who you don't see eye to eye anymore)

I think it's ideal to have a mix of both. I do. I have a small group of close friends, but also a fairly large network of people that I know and hang out with on occasion. Having lots of friends is a relatively recent thing though. I was painfully shy as a child and during my school years I either had no friends or 1 (maybe 2) close friends.

Unfortunatly, since high school ended I haven't even seen any of my friends, and my two good friends have changed so much in the last year that I never see any of them either. I'm really quite alone right now. :(

A few really close people, and a larger network (or multiple networks) of acquaintance friends (people you don't necessarily call just end up hanging out with and have a good time with).

And one person you are the closest to (girlfriend or just a really really good friend).

I had this question on a standardized test once.. from like 3 or 4 years ago. It was part of the written English section.. good times.

I hate almost everybody, so I usually just have 4 or 5 really close friends (almost all female) that I don't particularly want to stab.

Yeah... I also rarely see my high school friends nowadays. The last time I saw them is around earlier this year. I don't really mind at all since I rarely see them after I graduated high school (I'm already a college senior.).

I think high school friends really change after graduation. However, we don't really notice that we are the ones who changed and not them.
