If you really loved her
Or him...
Alrighty, so I see it a fair bit. A couple will be 'in love' and eventually things begin to chip away. The guys are usually nothing special and the girl realises this and moves to greener pastures.
What I can't understand is that a guy that supposedly 'loves' a girl can turn on her when she leaves him. It is my opinion that when you love someone all you want is for them to be completely happy. If she is not happy with you why try to confine her to that?
The reason I bring this up is because two guys I know who I'm friends with and they are friends too, were after the same girl, when the girl made her decision and went for guy #1 - guy #2 got all heartbroken (awww :p) and now I'd say the relationships between him the other guy and the girl are shakey.
Although initially if I was rejected I'd be upset but hell she made her choice. Why do people get all shitty about this? Seemingly anyhow.

It's because it's not really love, just deep attachment.
Fortunatly? Unfortunatly? That's a matter of opinion ;)

It's not just upsetting though. It's really really fucking painful.
I've treated ex-'s like shit. I'm far from proud of it, I just didn't know at the time how to handle being that hurt and powerless. :/

Re: If you really loved her
Few people use the term "love" meaning that overblown megalovin love that you talk about.
I love my girlfriend, and Id like to think that its just because I love her so much that Id be pissed if she left.
Love is way more selfish than people let on.
Fucking hollywood, setting ridiculously high standards.
Doesnt happen in real life. (read: my life)

Re: If you really loved her
Well the other thing I've seen a fair bit is a couple that is being threatened by say a job opportunity. Lets say the girl gets offered a job 300 miles away but the guy has to stay put. Now there is really a few options, it could go long distance or one party makes a sacrifice. However most of the time it's just a breaking point. Totally in love right?
The other thing from my first post is that the guy that missed out fucks this one slut whenever he is frisky, so he loves this one girl, she is supposedly his world...yet he is forever with this bitch?
People's irritate me.

Re: If you really loved her
If you're hurt it's kind of natural to lash out at the person who hurt you.

In all honesty, once one of my friends start going for a girl, I automatically think hands off. Girls out number guys 3 to1 in this world. Why even deal with going after the same girl when there are a crap load of others out there. Personality? No one is unique. Chances are, no matter how a person's personality is, there is going to be at least few others out there with a similar personality. Looks? Anyone can look good. In terms of girls, all it takes these days is a good diet, fake tan, maybe a boob job... beauty can be made.
But seriously, both guys should have turned their backs on that girl for even choosing between the two. If the girl had a descent sense about herself, she wouldn't choose between two friends.

Re: If you really loved her
People don't love other people. They love conceptualizations of other people. Then that concept fades. Then, people get angry at the new, uglier conceptualization, at the being that hurt them.

Wow. That just summed up nearly every relationship I've ever had. Thanks.
Anywhere where I could read up on this? :)

Social Psychologists talk a lot about attraction and interaction between people. But I wouldn't know what specifically to refer you to... It's just something I've kind of noticed.

Re: If you really loved her
It just makes it easier to get over them if you hate them rather than still love them after they've left you.

I can't remember which Sci Fi writer said this but he said that people choose the screen (partner) which will display their image of the perfect lover with the least distortion.

Thank you. I love how people will bitch endlessly about porn. What about the fucking "Notebook." Nicholas Sparks has dissapointed more people than Hugh Heffner ever could.
