Giving advice to someone in a fucked up situation
Recently I've been having some conversations on msn with someone who I am basically repulsed by (no sense of purpose, responsibility, or ability to actually influence anything) and I've felt the need to make it clear more than once that I feel no attraction or affection towards him. Over a period of time he has confided that he has few friends, what he really wants is to be loved, and (recently) that his only family and sole legal guardian is fucking him in the ass.
His perpetual state of hopelessness and powerlessness disgusts me, but I'm beginning to feel like nothing I could say or advise would do much at all. He seems convinced of his inability to do anything about anything, compounded by an anorexia fueled physical frailty and the controlling influence of social services.
Throughout my life the thing that has brought me through more than anything else is a kind of controlled rage. He seems to have none, and so I don't think anything I have to say could really help. Does anyone have any idea about this sort of thing? What could someone in a position like that even do if not expressing anger?

Re: Giving advice to someone in a fucked up situation
Take him out clubbing, get him laid. Seriously. He'll get some self-esteem and it'll teach him how to make friends (the clubbing part, not the sex part).
