Default Thinking too far ahead?

I sometimes think of where our relationship is going to go. I guess if things get really serious, we keep seeing each other and our feelings get stronger and stronger I guess I'll ask for her hand in marriage.

But then you start to think of where most relationships go. They eventually break up, get divorced or w/e.

It feels as if a break-up eventually is inevitable. I really don't like to think that way and I tell myself to think about the now. The present.

Does anyone else think like this sometimes?

Sometimes. Our relationship is long distance at the moment (been going almost 3 years). We've come close to breaking up sometimes since we've hardly seen each other this year. But the good times make it all worthwhile - and once you get through the honeymoon->comfortable with each phase, then nothing can stop you.

There's nothing wrong at all with thinking far ahead, as long as you have a reasonable chance with the girl (or guy). Society may make you think that all relationships are doomed to fail in the end - but that's not necessarily the case. As long as you are willing to make the compromise with your significant other and are willing to make things work, then a breakup needn't be inevitable - quite the opposite.

If you draw this kind of thinking to its eventual logical conclusion then the right thing to do is just to put a bullet in your brain.

Right now.

try not to think too far ahead. i know its hard to do. especially when you're in a great relationship and things are going well, you always think of the 'what if' down the road....don't dwell on it....because when shit goes wrong and you break up it just hurts that much more.... just try to live in the now.

Thinking about a possible future with somone isn't wrong. It's day dreaming.

It's wrong when you start thinking you "should" do something for the future. Fuck that. Take it one step at a time.

ya....but it all depends on what point in your life you are at when these thoughts occur...like with my ex, i was just getting ready to graduate college....i had some good prospects, FAR fucking away from where her and I were. and the job market sucked for my field where we're at....but i started looking for jobs around here because she didnt want to leave....serious life altering decisions in the process here. in the end it was better that we ended it...but fuck...................................

I'm in a really difficult situation with this right now... about 2 months into my current relationship, I told her I wanted to make her pregnant, I loved her more than anything ever and that I wanted to marry her as soon as I can.

I didn't mean any of it really - we were fucking, and I get off on that shit MASSIVELY and though I'd been OK holding it back for a while, I had to let it out. She was a bit surprised but I explained the whole "it's only to get me off" thing. Thing is she's a) crazy into me and b) a GIRL and so she fucking loved that shit and now always talks about when we're married, she has the names of babies sorted already too, she's planning for years in advance etc etc... and when I'm not horny, I hate that shit but have to play along with it. Of course it doesn't help that when I start to get hard I build it all up so much, all the time... can't help myself.

Can only hope that if things don't work out, it doesn't crush her too much.

Each person should take things as far as they want them. If the point of your relationship is you're looking to find "the one" or whatever the hell you call it that is what you are going to think about. But once your burned enough you being to doubt that it's even going to work. It might it might not. Eventualy one of you is going to die even if it does work so at some point the relationship will end to a certain degree (that goes into religious beliefes so fill in what your god says comes after death here). It shouldn't be what is the out come going to be but were the years in between worth it. Like my parents have been together 25 years. They're happy together but it can all end tommorow no one knows. That's why they have sayings like live each day like it was your last and all that motivational shit. It may very well be.

Sorry to break it to you pal, but she'll be fucking destroyed. Like really bad. You'll be the one to blame. Trust me pal, it ain't funny, I've been there.

You don't have to break anything to me, I'm quite aware she'll likely be destroyed, hence the 'hoping' bit :( Still, I'm optimistic...

Wait.

You get off on proclaiming to want babies and marraige?

So, what, domestication is your fetishism?

I think you might have more difficult situations than this up ahead. Namely: your life.

You don't seem to understand. It's not "domestication" (as you put it) that I get off on, it's the lying, the promise of commitment and dedication and building her up when in fact that's far from my desires. I'd probably pigeon-hole it more as a kind of secret psychological sadism.

If you can't comprehend that, then I think you might have more difficult situations than this up ahead. Namely: your life.
