I seem to have the same problem. It's not so much that I feel awkward, it just seems like I've got nothing to talk about when I'm with a women.

its not exactly easy to find a girl interested in obscure drugs, philosophy, snowboarding(fairly easy, but snowboarder chicks in general are pretty fucked up), horticulture, star trek,guitar, or my cracked out adventures from back in the day

Awesome, you're asian. I wish there were more cool asians around where I live, the only one we got is this really REALLY quiet guy who looks/sounds like a girl and doesn't say shit. Asians are so cool when they fit a stereotype (stoner asian, jock asian, metro asian etc.)

Are you saying you can only talk to people that share your List of Hobbies? If everyone went around acting like that the world'd be pretty damn quiet, I can tell you...

How can you think you have nothing in common with a girl?? Think about the number of different things there are in the universe. When you compare all of them, you'll find you actually have a fuckload in common with any girl: you live in (debatably) the same reality and you experience the same emotions. If she lives in your town and goes to your school you have another million things to talk about. Trust me, you have more things to talk about with every girl you meet then there's time for you to talk about. You just need to relax, realise she's as nervous as you, and it'd be easy even if you weren't clever and emphatic. :)

Oh, and if you wanna be good with people, don't smoke any weed. This is coming from one stoner to another, I know what it's like, man. But if you wanna get in that buzzing, instinctive, "I'm good at socialising" zone then you're waaaay better off without a head full of zute.

You need to try and go in with a fuck-it attitude. Otherwise you will do the same thing every time.

Look them straight in the eyes.

Start with small talk, but make sure to look them in the eyes. This is often the most difficult thing to do. Once you get past this, you can get more comfortable around them. Once you're more comfortable around them, you can act like yourself. Once you act like yourself, wah-la.
