Helping a heartbroken relative
My aunt has been married to this guy for 20 years. Just today, I heard he left her(I was the ring-bearer at their wedding in 1987). It all happened 3 wks ago but she didn't mention anything till today. I heard this from my grandma who went over to console her. I am quite saddened by this, but it compares nothing to the
My aunt has been very successful at running businesses in life(her husband's furniture-making shop). She is VERY intelligent and has stuck with me through tough times, even through my addictions. She's staying over tomorrow night to get away from the emptiness. She's bringing her Maltese.
S&A, what can I do to help her through this rough time?? She is family and I want to show her that her family is here for her through this rough time.

Re: Helping a heartbroken relative
And now I have "Owner of a lonely heart" by Yes stuck in my head.
Fucker.
The most you can hope to accomplish is to simply be there for her, showing her that she's loved, and worth loving, and to hope to be a midwife for beneficial conversation.
Only she can fix her heart.

Re: Helping a heartbroken relative
I'll give you 2:1 odds that within the next 4 posts, someone will recommend sleeping with her.

Re: Helping a heartbroken relative
Grab a bottle of booze, some depressing music, take a comfortable seat and talk together whilst drinking. Be prepared to give hugs and grab Kleenex for the tears. Make no plans for this night because you have to both drink until you fall asleep.
I've heard drunken purging helps a lot, even for long relationships...I know it has for me. Sitting with my brother, getting shit faced, bitching and moaning, laughing about things, crying about what a shitty situation you're in.
The next day you wake up with a hangover but you feel a lot lighter emotionally.
As you slowly get drunk together and talk about shit, she'll realise that she's got family who want to be around her and be there for her. It'll help her greatly through such a rough time.
Or sleep with her! :p
(Just wanted to go along with Robinhoody!)
