Assuming that this is the correct forum to ask. I was wondering, what equipment do you recommend for general restraints? Does rope work well? And if so, will normal rope do fine or should an investment in soft bondage rope be made? Or perhaps leather cuffs? Having one cuff for each limb and padlocks to fasten them together according to your needs seems practical. Could this work? Are leather cuffs really that secure? What's your favorite bondage equipment anyway?

Rope definitely works, just try to get some that isn't as rough and that ties well.

Obviously rope is going to be alot cheaper than leather cuffs, but it really depends on what you'd like to do. I don't know how secure leather cuffs are.

well i only have experience with self bondage so i'm not sure all my advice will be relevant to your situation but i can tell you that good leather cuffs are every bit as secure as metal cuffs and don't leave such obvious marks

chains are a good investment because they can be attached to cuffs or clamps easily and can be padlocked with ease. much better than ropes.

typing yourself with rope is comparatively tricky and unpredictable. unless you really know how to tie a good knot they will either come undone under the stress or tighten and impede circulation which is dangerous if you're on your own and i can imagine irritating with a partner. plus rope burns and marks are fairly obvious and i personally don't like the chafing as i like the pain to be from stressful positions and clamps not my restraints

overall i would definitely recommend a pair of good leather cuffs. make sure you dont get a cheap pair because you will regret it in use.

if its your first foray into this and you want to get some toys i'd also recommend getting hold of some strong spreader bars with mid-length harness attachments in 12 and 24 inch (maybe 30 too) a collar, and a ball gag. make sure you get bars designed to take a persons weight (i made that mistake with my first pair and had to replace them when i got deeper into sb)

I might just invest in that someday. But I plan to do some traveling in the near future, so a lightweight kit would be not only an advantage, but a requirement.

Well, I won't meet the challenges of self-bondage, but advice is still noted. The challenge of rope restraints is what made me doubt how useful it'll be, but I think it'll be nice to have some in handy anyway. There'll probably be some improvements if I invest some time in mastering the art.

in that case i would probably go for good climbing rope and maybe some thin fabric to wrap around wrists/ankles or the relevant parts of the rope itself in case it does cause problems. learn to tie clove and constrictor knots since you can carry them through and link things at any length with them (might need a knife for the constrictor knots if they get pulled too tight).

they would get the job done... but i hear that some cheaper cuffs have issues with fastening and coming loose and i know for a fact that they can chafe and are uncomfortable. you can padlock most leather cuffs for added security by the way.

if you could stretch to 60 dollars or so you should be able to get a good pair. i would personally go for a good lining (fur) instead of padding because i dont find padding as comfortable but thats really more personal preference.

if you have any sort of practical ability you could make your own with few problems. you can buy metal piping dirt cheap at hardware stores and plenty of miscellaneous attachments to weld on for use as restraint attachments.
