[on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
So I'm in love with this chick, and she likes me too. Well, she does sometimes. Pretty stereotypical southern USA girl, likes to spend hours putting on makeup that doesn't ever seem to make her look any different, feels her place in the home is one of cooking, cleaning and (if we ever make it that far) taking care of the kid(s). Even with those somewhat outdated gender-roles, she is willing to find work when times call for it and she DOES expect me to do a portion of the cleaning and generally just help around the house, so long as I'm the main "bread-winner" most of the time.
Doesn't sound too bad, right? I think I can manage to clean up after myself and tidy up a bit after work/before dinner. The problem is in other aspects of the relationship. See, I have always had this issue with being "manly". I can run a mile in a decent amount of time, but I still have a very small physique for a man. I know my size doesn't bother her, but it does contribute to my self-conscious view of myself, and who I feel I was meant to be.
When we're cuddling on the couch, she gets uncomfortable because I, without even thinking, rest my head on her shoulder/chest and get nice and comfortable. Usually she pushes me away, and says, "You're supposed to be the man, YOU hold ME." So I apologize and put myself into a position that's uncomfortable for both of us because I don't know the proper way to hold someone like that. The same goes for sex. I always want a good amount of playful foreplay before any clothes are even removed and slowly work my way up to the point where things feel "just right" and then we can partake in some actual penetration. This annoys her, as I'm "acting too feminine". Of course after sex is over, I want to cuddle some more and find myself pushed away again.
Always, she's telling me that she wants "A Real Man, to take care of her". I don't know what all that entails, beyond maybe opening doors for her and trying really hard to not "cuddle" into her. She's a born and raised follower of Christ, and I'm thinking she wants me to act like those men in the Bible, though cleaner and without the wife-beating. She's told me that she may leave me over this, but I really love her and will try to do what I can to meet these unclear standards she's set for me. She says it's my duty to protect her, which I guess makes sense but, I'm not the violent type. If someone hit her, sure I'd fight back, but if it's just some random guy hitting on her, why can't she tell him to go away?
I fear though, that maybe I'm NOT a Manly Man with chest hair down to my ankles, and actually belong with some kind of Manly WOMAN.
I don't know what she wants from me. Help me translate this womanese into good old english, please.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
My thoughts while reading it were that he seems a lot more willing to try to conform to her needs and expectations than she is to his. She sounds very set on this ideal, which unfortunately doesn't sound compatible with the reality. But I'm not really sure what either could do to change it.

Tell her to go down to the county jail and find someone just getting out. She'll like him.
As for the dude...Well...Nothing wrong with what he's doing. She's just sticking to those stereotypical gender roles too strongly. In this day and age, things have changed somewhat.

Agreed, she seems pretty demanding of him, yet is unable to do simple things for him like cuddle after sex? I mean she is actually turned off by that?
I would tell her to fuck off, and if she wants a man's man she can try and find him, but don't call me when he starts doing this and this and this wrong.

Mr Happy. How can a thread like this really work? Are you to be his secretary?
I'm not sure if he's going to contact me again, or if he just wants people to comment on the information given. Things have been posted anonymously like this before and what looks like good advice has come out of it, although with no further input from the OP we can't really tell how helpful it is. Still, I think there's enough there for some valuable input to come out of it.
(good to see you posting more frequently again, by the way :))

Thinking about it, taking a stand and saying "you're being over-demanding, knock it the fuck off" would be more assertive and manly. I wonder how she'd take it.

I also believe in the outdated gender roles, but she seems to be taking it too far..
It really seems like she's just focusing on how she wants everything to be instead of being happy with the way things are.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
I can understand someone wanting something posted anonymously due to not wanting real life people to find out but it seems he's hiding simply because he doesent want to be mocked?
I dont see whats wrong with having a smaller stature, to be honest. Sure big men with muscles like some sort of GuildWars charecter can be good I guess but smaller guys can be good too. Not everyone wants to date the incredible bulk.
"
Always, she's telling me that she wants "A Real Man, to take care of her"."
Why would you waste your time with an ungreatfull bitch like this?
Let her go find a 'real man' who will beat the shit out of her and not give a fuck about her feelings one little bit and let her suffer knowing the fact she lost you, who I actually think are much more of a 'man' than she thinks.
There are girls out there who like different aspects of a man, there will allways be ones out there who would kill for a man like you.

You wanna crossdress she WILL borrow you her fucking lingeré! And yeah like yoyobek said, if she wants a fucking caveman, well good riddance!
Seriously dude, wanna be a man? Don't take no shit for who you are, if she's not cool with that then fuck her.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
I think the best thing you could do is if you ever got tired of her being a horrible bitch, is to look at her naked when you're about to have sex sometime and say "ugh. I
need a REAL woman" and then walk off.
If she's going to say deliberately nasty hurtfull things like that, with intent to hurt you, is she someone you want to be with?
I know we say mean things to our partners at times, but rarely intentionaly to hurt. She sounds spitefull and malicious, and someone I'd dealy love to beat the shit out of.
If you spend your life with someone who's nothing but dissapointed and embarassed with you, the repurcussions on your mental health might well be extreme.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
oc6, He also emailed me and I can understand his reasons for wanting to post it anonymously. Mr Happy just beat me to it.
------------------------------
OP, she wants a man. Has nothing to do with physique, stature, fitness, muscle or age.
I've known 13 year olds who were men and 50 year olds who were boys.
The word is leadership. Taking the helm, taking responsibility for her, for yourself, for the kids and for your relationship.
It has nothing to do with chauvinism, macho-ness or anything the like.
Your wife is a highly intelligent capable young woman with her own opinions.
You say she doesn't want the 'wife beating' thang, which is a shame but here's the more modern, politically more correct method.
You get up tomorrow morning and bring her breakfast in bed. Maybe change a diaper if your kids are that small. Then you put on a suit and go get a job (assuming you don't have one or aren't a student). And you KEEP that job.
Then you start to lead. First step is to communicate. Not issuing orders from on high but talking to her and with her. Get her opinion but make the decision yourself and let her know you are taking responsibility for that decision.
When you tell her something then your attitude needs to be 'If you want to live then take my hand'.
You start dealing with the money side of things. You pay the bills even if its with her money. You deal with all the 'paper', all the forms and government shite. You make the decisions about where and what needs to be done.
You've been incredibly selfish most of your life and all your thoughts have centered around you. You're too wrapped up in yourself.
Start to think of her.
She knows you love her, she knows you love the kids, now start showing it.
Start pulling you weight around the home and with kids. I may be a 'wife beater' and old school misogynist but I do more house work then most 'modern' men I know.
Start taking the kids to school, to the doctors.
*is out of time, more random thoughts later if you want*

HAHAHAHA! Why does it sound to me like you are giving advice to HandofZek?
My advice?
1) Email Mr. Happy/Jackketch with your girlfriend's phone # and address.
2) Allow those 2 entrance into her house, to do whatever they like.
3) Take pics of anything that goes on during that meeting.
4) Takes notes on what Happy/Jack do, and then start doing them YOURSELF.
5) Post pics on Totse
6) ????????

Heh. Yeah I kind of thought it might be him too, but I dont think he'd bother with anonmity. I mean the guy posts in HB for fucks sake, I think he's more than capable of dealing with the small amount of bashing that's likely in this forum.
But yes. I can not help but dislike the girl the poster talks about. I can understand her saying angry hurtfull things when she's angry or they're having an argument, but to constantly say those things?
I deffinately think a visit from Mr.Ketch might alter her perspective on men a fair bit, and make her appreciate what she's got.

Why would you try to make what seems like a badly failing relationship work?
A demanding wife worstening her husbands insecurities by pointing out the differences between him and her stereotypical mental image of what a man should be... I would say try to find someone who is happy with you being a person.

WELL, you can start off by not thinking about having kidsw ith her. Maybe you should find a manlier woman, or maybe you should grow some chest hair and not be a bitch laying on her shoulder. there is no reaosn you can't put your head on her buzoms though, bthats normal and comfortabkle. draw little squiggles with a sharpie, and maybe you should take a few viagra

Seriously, wtf? you want to rest your head on some boobies and have a nice amount of attention to your eregenous zones.
And if wanting cuddling after sex is feminine then call me a bitch.

I know exactly what you feel. Trust me, trying to fake the 'manliness' will get old.
Quoted. For. Motherfucking. TRUTH.
Seriously, she should be considering herself lucky in finding a guy who appreciates her enough to want to cuddle and be close to her, to make sex a pleasant experience instead of the classic "force penis in, pump a bit, finish, slap her, have a cigarette, tell her to clean up and then go get drunk." How does wanting to be with someone you love, to experience their body in all the ways you can, make you unmanly? Ask her that. Ask her why building to a height of sexual tension and tantalization to make the final release all the sweeter isn't what a MAN does. Ask her what's wrong with liking to feel her body and bond with her after the most intimate thing a man and woman can do.
She doesn't want a manly man. Foreplay and cuddling may not be things she wants, insanely enough, but wanting them in no way makes you feminine... it makes you yourself, and in very good company besides. No, she wants a fucking caricature of manliness. This is undoubtedly due to her messed up religious upbringing, but I digress. My advice? Take BlackSails'. If she doesn't respect you for standing up for yourself and telling her what the fuck is what, then she didn't deserve you anyway.
Relationships take some compromise sometimes. She has a right to prefer rough unlubricated sex if she wants, and were it just having some aversion to cuddling I'd say to try to work with her. But she doesn't seem willing to let you be yourself at all. She doesn't dislike cuddling because she dislikes cuddling, she dislikes it because she's obsessed with some twisted parody of manhood, in the process completely losing sight of what it actually means to be a man.
Does cuddling render you unable to protect her?
If she's telling you herself you're not MANLY NUFF for her and she may LEAVE you over it... fuck her. A real man is simply who he is, not some exaggeration of a caveman. She rejects you for what you are, and you'll know which one she wants.

LOl yes , thats nearer to the truth than you'd think.
But as to the point, no manliness isn't doing everything for her. But helping her is. Anyone who has kids knows just how much house work there is a day.
A man doth work from sun to sun but a woman's work is never done.
Even worse if the husband allows/insists/expects his wife to hold down a job too.
NO WIFE should be expected to work a job, look after kids and do all the house work.
Being a man means grabbing her under the arms as much as possible.
And believe it or not it will give her a feeling that you're a man. Seems fucked I know but by helping her/caring for her you , as a man, are fulfilling the Protector role that she is genetically hardwired to want.
Of course she doesn't want a 'house man' or some mac using drip who actually knows what colour curtains go with which carpet.
You have to find a happy medium.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
So I'm in love with this chick...
...I don't know what she wants from me. Help me translate this womanese into good old english, please.
I personally think she's just a huge fucking weirdo and needs to good smack to the jaw.
And to be honest, the whole translating from woman to English? You can only say that if the majority of women are like this. They're not. She sounds a complete ass. My boyfriend isn't 6'6" and built like a brick shit house but that doesn't make him girly and the fact he'd want to cuddle or whatever is good. If he didn't want to cuddle or show ANY affection ever or seem to care about her, surely he'd not be too quick to fight for her and WANT to take care of her.
Why would you waste your time with an ungreatfull bitch like this?
Let her go find a 'real man' who will beat the shit out of her and not give a fuck about her feelings one little bit and let her suffer knowing the fact she lost you, who I actually think are much more of a 'man' than she thinks.
Exactly.
She'll probably be seriously disappointed if she found someone else. Unless she's got with someone who's more controlling and I'm doubting she'd like that as much as she thinks. She wants the type of man she's seen in films and on tv, not a normal guy.
I think the best thing you could do is if you ever got tired of her being a horrible bitch, is to look at her naked when you're about to have sex sometime and say "ugh. I
need a REAL woman" and then walk off.
Hahaha, that's exactly what I was thinking. This would make her see what an asshole she's being most likely.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
Buy a weight set and start eating more basic natural foods. Mix and experiment and be sure to get protein.
From my experience, and you will learn this too if you really get your body in good shape: Doing it for the women is such a small reason to do it. What if all girls come onto you? Will you even be with your girl? When they reject you if you lose it, will you lose your mind?
There's many lessons to be learned by paying attention to the body, diet and good exercise. I will say to keep running, as much as you can. One of the biggest problems I think plagues society is everyone has stronger upper bodies than lower bodies.
Plus running is fun. Im about to go do that right now.
Forget totse, forget her, forget everything and make a game plan. You should do these things to help make you feel like a man, not more than another or for "looks"... for your own health.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
To the Anon member, I think he should seriously consider his relationship with her, if she really truly does make him happy he ought to try change a few things to become more "manly" Personally I cant say that I'm all that manly because i do alot of the stuff the anon said he did, such as cuddling after sex etc. But I think you probably could change a few things for her to become more manly, but don't change yourself too much she has to make some changes too you can't let yourself do all the work.

I had my suspicions reading the thread right from the beginning. Thinking to myself....."who would be so butthurt and pathetic to have to email mods for anonymous posting of their problems?"
Then Jack came on and gave some advice, and it sounded just like counsel you would give someone that has made such a disaster of their life.....just like Zek.
And then I come across this thread, post #8.....
http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2053848
Here Zek is whining about wanting registration open, so new blood will actually listen to his drivel. Honestly Zek, you have reached a completely new pinnacle of patheticness. Complete strangers are so sick of hearing you incessant whining, that you have to cry to the mods to post this anonymously for a "fresh" outlook. Gimme a fucking BREAK! And you won't listen to a damn thing anyone says. Nope, I'd bet good money that Hardly There will come back on after her trip discussing how you didn't do a damn thing while she was gone. How she had to tiptoe through a minefield of pizza boxes and takeout menus just to walk through the living room. How the house is trashed, you haven't showered in days.....and absolutely NOTHING got better. Except maybe you finally reached level 57 on Zelda Quest Kombat.
Seriously, you want advice? Then listen to only THIS.....Just do the opposite of whatever you think is right. If you feel like you have to pee, then sit down and take a shit. If you are hungry for chinese, then order burgers and fries. Because your whole life is completely BACKWARDS. So ignore any thoughts of logic, reason, or thinking you might have....and DO THE FUCKIN OPPOSITE. Then and ONLY then will your wretched existence change for the better.
My god, this thread could be one of the lamest and most pathetic things I've ever witnessed. I have more respect for bums begging for nickels living under a bridge.

^^^Have you SEEN some of the embarassing, degrading and inane shite Zek posts in HB/B&M ?
there's no way he'd bother with internet anonimity when so many assholes allways laugh at him-and he seems impervious to them.
After all the stuff he and HardlyThere have posted, we're not exactly strangers to their problems and arguments, nor do they seem shy about airing their issues with each other. So, anonmity just wouldnt make any sense. :S

Yoyo you said that before, and I still ain't buying it. Anyone following along with Zek's other threads and what is going on in his offline life can put the pieces together. Myself, I'm just going on what I see mostly here, B&M, and SB. I very rarely check out HB.
What's interesting is neither Mr. Happy or Jack has come on and said...."nah, it ain't Zek" when they have done that before in the past. Add to the fact that Happy, Jack and yourself have also given Zek helpful, friendly and sincere advice before. So some mods do look out for him, all while Zek endures the flames from many others. What's especially intriguing is if you quickly assess Happy and Jack they are both good and fair mods (and seem to be people).....not prone to lying. And as people that don't like to lie, they won't come on here and tell us one......being that single line of "it ain't Zek".
Now while I think that both of them are good and honest mods, I do believe they would have the propensity to tell a "little white lie" if in fact it could somehow in a round about way help someone. Again their "affection" or whatever you want to call it for Zek. But alas, honest men make LOUSY liars. And if you look at the quote above, this is a blundering awkward statement with too much info and back story when a REAL explanation would have simply been...."a poster is embarrased to put it up normally, so here goes." Life lesson Mr. Happy.......the best lies are the simplest with as few details as possible.
Now you or someone else may flame me saying...."fuck, go get a life for piecing all of that together in such a way and paying THAT much attention". Truthfully, there was no mystery about it. The only "effort" was this post describing my vantage point. I'm just watching the comedic tragedy that is Zek's life play out by reading the posts every day. And here I am now in this episode of it, which is adding to the slapstick hilarity of all this drama.
Zek, just get off the fuckin couch and get some work done. Quit wasting even more time sulking on the internet, trying to find excuses to be the lazy bum that you are. Trying to do mystery threads to get sincere advice from folks, so instead of doing that work she can come home and you can say........"TaaaDaaaahhh, ok the place is a mess but I'm a CHANGED MAN NOW. You no longer have that pussy little boy when you left, I finally get it.....I'm that man you've wanted all this time".
Just give it up already Zek, because this whole charade is profoundly sad, stupid and pathetic.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
Hey, I allways give helpfull friendly advice!
I dunno, It just doesent sound like Zek.
He'd just post a thread here going
"so like, my wife doesent like how I am. Gonna go play vanguard and take some drugs now, yo. <3"
Anyway, I dont particularly give two shits about the secret identity of our thread starter, allthough yeah, it's kinda smart how you pieced all that together. :)
I feel sad though. No one should have to change themselves so drastically for their partner. I mean, being quite a thin light guy would be something he's allways been,it wouldnt have creeped up on him suddenly one day. If she didnt like how he looked or acted she should have ended it sooner, before he fell in love with her.
I mean, if you were dating a girl, and she came up to you and said "Oh DaGuru, I love you, but you're too healthy and I dont like you enjoying the things that make you happy.."
..Would you change your habits or change the bitch?

Exactly Yoyo, my point entirely. Haven't many of you for a very long time been asking both HoZ and HT......."what are you still doing together because of your lack of compatibility and understanding each other?" That is absolutely what many of the responses have been on this thread......"why?". And I certainly don't fault either Jack or Happy for this little ruse, because truly all they are trying to do is help out a pretty pathetic soul who takes the opinions of strangers way too seriously and can't handle the flaming.
But seriously, what sounds like the most likely scenario? What I just described above? Or that some stranger approached Jack/Happy anonymously and this topic merited a sticky, all the while being so amazingly similar to the foundational problems that Zek and Hardly There have?

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
It seems like she wants physical attraction more than anything. She probably is feminine on the whole. If she perceives you as less masculine and more feminine, then it's not going to work. Being what some would perceive as "more feminine" though, may have taken your relationship this far but it might have made it boring. Given that she is feminine then you should obviously strive to be more masculine. Look inside yourself and ask what would make you more masculine.
For me it would be changing my style and my thought patterns, don't suffer from surges of inferiority if they arise. Make sure to change the effects that have caused you to feel the way you do. On another note - Like Yourself!

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
I think that altering your behaviors is completely different than trying to change your personality for someone. That is something I don't even think is even doable.
Living together with some semblance of harmony requires that people change some of their habits. It doesn't matter if it's in a family type relationship or, say for instance, in the workplace.
Haven't you changed things that you do in order to coexist with someone else? Have you never asked another person to change some of their behaviors for you?
I don't think that the OP can change everything, but I do think that some changes that he makes will quite likely bring about changes in her as well.
Of course I can imagine someone changing little things to appease and please their partner.
But if the partner starts criticising the persons very self, then it kind of makes you wonder what the point is. If they want you to fit this image so bad, why dont they look elsewhere for something that more fits that image?

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
If two years into a relationship my parter suddenly said "I dont like the way you walk/talk/look/think/whatever" after two years of saying absolutely fucking nothing, no, I dont think I'd change it.
I wouldnt wedge myself into some fucking invisible girlfriend mould that my boyfriend would like me to fit.

Nice try, but unless Zek is a master shapeshifter it's not him. That doesn't sound at all like his writing style, and the relationship doesn't sound at all like his, and most of all the thoughts of the author don't mesh with his. He's stated he likes to hurt Hardly There, and she's mentioned he doesn't even have the energy to get out of bed - let alone cuddle and go to the movies and shit.
Edit: Also, he's openly mentioned he'd rather be a female. I don't think he's too ashamed of that, or would want to change it.

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
Whooooaaaaaaaaa.....hang on, TIME OUT!
Before this thread fades away into oblivion, maybe we could get some final follow-up? I mean for 9 whole days we witnessed this sticky evolve, and I'm sure many of us are wondering if our hard work was succesful? So Happy/Jack, any response from the original Mystery Man? Has he taken any of the advice given to heart? Has he made those changes? Turned his life around? Dumped his girl? Or instead of getting off his butt and doing something about his meager existence is he pondering the quality of people that don't appreciate the same TV shows as him?
Cmon guys.....inquiring minds wanna know.

Nah, too many regs posted some great advice for this thread......and I'm pretty certain the mods would like us to get some kind of closure or followup. I mean, if it warranted a sticky for 9 days THEY obviously had more interest in this topic than a normal thread. Certainly, they wouldn't let it just fade off into oblivion after all this work......would they?????

Your bitch wants you to stop acting like a manlet and start treating her like a bitch, you know shit like "be useful and get me a beer!" or "you crazy? I don't change diapers, thats bitch work!" Cut back on the cuddling, be a little rougher w/e takes.
Remember the theory that women like the bad boys b/c they treat them like crap, give it a shot. Just don't be a complete asshole, as you will find there are times were a little sensitivity is required.

Great job Mr. Happy and Jackketch. You have followed Acidmelt's example to the letter, and proven yet again his tactics are quite effective. "Ignore it long enough, and eventually it will go away."

Enemy? Nah, not Jack and Mr. Happy. I think they are 2 of the better mods on Totse. Scroll above, I don't even think they are "wrong" for their ruse....if anything its testament to the "goodness" of their hearts. Going to all of this trouble for such a silly person such as Zek.
No, I used the verbiage "they" as in PLURAL because both of them discussed receiving this email and no other mod has come forward to admit they have as well. If one would, then at that point we could still make reference as a "they", because the vagueness of that description has no set quantity other than more than one.
As for any real "enemy" of Totse, I'm not exactly quiet about that in other sections.....so I'll refrain from soiling S & A with that craziness. That's the thing Yoyo......S & A doesn't need any janitors, because everyone does do a great job of modding around here. Its less problematic than other sections of Totse, because of a respect factor for that fair moderating as well as a clear cut understanding of the rules.
And that's why this thread is so weird. Happy and Jack brought this to the table, and now it just sits dead. No response to anything when quite a few folks think this whole thing is a farce. When have you ever seen Jack and Happy react in such a way? If this is all just some dumb anonymous poster, why is it stickied...then abandoned?
At this point, lets look at the fruits of all these labors......
"I'm not smoking pot where they can smell it.
I'm respecting them. And I got it mostly clean. Cleaner than she expected anyway."
ALL the advice given out.....both to his face, and in this mask thread....and this is what he did with it all? Yup, some manly man there. And while they were gone, instead of REALLY trying to fix things..... he prattled on here about how admins should die because they don't like his favorite television shows. So at this point, I just gotta ask......
WAS IT WORTH IT EVERYBODY???????

Re: [on behalf of an anonymous member] How to become a Manly Man
Sorry, I misunderstood your use of 'they'. Often that term is used to describe multiple enemies. "they're out to get me.They suck" ect..
But yes, S&A is one of the most peacefull forums in regards to Mods. Jackketch and Psycho are good old fashioned brits and friendly with it. Allthough I'm sure they could and would kick my teeth in if I stepped out of line..
What I wonder is who is the anonymous poster if it's not zek? I mean, they'd be checking all the responses and must have had the urge to defend themselves atleast a little.
I've done it myself, use Totse as a blog and a place to bounce oppinions around. Many people do. Even though to us it may seem they're not taking any action to solve their problems, it's probably very thereputic for them to have somewhere to let out what they're feeling, and start to atleast take a step in the right direction.
If it is Zek though,I've lost a bit of respect for him for staying with such a cruel woman who'd say such cruel things to him. I know love does strange stuff to people..but there should be a limit.
