This has more than likely been posted a hundred times before, so for that I apologise.

But what do people think about dating a best friends ex?

I'll post my story anyway, but the main point of the thread is to answer that question.


So about 2 years ago, my best friend breaks off with his (hot) girlfriend. Now, at the time I really liked her (In a friendly way), but I had to stop talking to her out of almost loyalty to him, I can't really explain it. I felt like I had to.

Skip forward a year or so. She flirts heavily with me in school, but again, I stay away. Same reasons. I don't know how to explain it other than loyalty, but that makes me sound like his lap dog.

Skip another year, starting college. Today was the first day, and when it all ended, I met with him outside school.
Now, I broke up with my girlfriend a few months back, but she still hangs around my friends. Long story.

She walks up to me & my mate, and starts talking to him. (I get constantly shunned) And basically, they were flirting heavily.
I thought nothing of it at the time, but when I get back home I log onto myspace, and check a bulletin by ex's best friend. (myspacefag, yeah yeah..)

This contains lots of heavy hinting at my best mate, and my ex shacking up. Or at least, dating on the horizon. I'm not sure what to make of this.

It would be weird if he dated her. I, personally would have no particular issue with it, other than I passed up the chance to get with his ex, who happens to be twice as hot.
But the bit that gets me, is that he didn't even mention it.

So what does totse think? Is getting with your best friends ex alright, or not alright? I can honestly say I don't know what to think.

i did it. i basically stole her away from him. we started making out and doing shit while they were together, then she broke up with him, and the next day i asked her out.

think of it this way:
You lose a best friend, but hey, you cant make out with your best friend.

I've known this guy for 5 years, it's not that easy.

You're young and at college. Friends come and go and the chances are in a few years you might not even be in contact with half the people you know now.

Take the chance and see what happens. The only rule that I've ever applied to friends ex's is making sure there's at least some water under the bridge before wading in as it definitely makes you look like a prick if you jump in only a few days after they've broken up. Don't be that guy.
