Songs to deal with a break-up.
There's always lists of songs in this place designed for sex but what about songs that can relate to/help you when you just broke-up with someone.
I'm not asking for any specific type of music just songs that YOU have or would listen to and helped during a break up.
First thing that comes to my mind is: Dry Your Eyes Mate by the Streets
What about you guys/girls?
What did/would you listen to?

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
Oooh, all of them. :D
Muse- Uno
The Rasmus-Shot (masochistic, dont do this one)
Anything by Hed PE.
Bartender, by either Hed PE or Wutang clan. I cant remember now.
Cant Take The Best Of Me. Again, either by wutang or Hed PE.
The Meadow, again, it's either HedPE or wutang. I dont know how the fuck I got those two confused but they're all for some reason in one big fucking file on my computer.
You need a subtle combination of sad and psychotically violent music. Just dont listen to the aggressive stuff and take coke at the same time because you'll probably end up going to your ex's workplace/wherever and slamming their face into the floor.
Break Stuff, by limp bizkit is actually alot better than you'd think.
Also throw in some furious Drum and Bass, BadCompanyUks 'Nitrous' is great.
Shattersphere, godsmack, Zao,Trivium, good screamy angry music.
Have a look for a hardhouse track called 'Here we go' by DJ dean. Tis much awesomage.
I hate to say it, but SOADs highway song. and also boom! are good.
Infact, email me at yoyobek@yahoo.co.uk and I can email you a few songs you may appreicate.

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
Woah some horrible suggestions right there :P
Here's a couple I've been listening to right now during my breakup:
Billy Joel - And so it goes (If you think "hah Billy Joel? Lame!", think again and check it out)
A-ha - Forever not yours and Summer moved on
Mew - Symmetry
AFI - This time imperfect
Emery - Under Serious attack and The Ponytail Parades
Man I could make a break-up compilation, full of good music.

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
Not a bad list there. :) AFI are neat. Allthough when I saw them live I was disturbed by the fact davie havock had banages all the way up his arms like he thought that was cool. >:/
Thing is, it's all based on personal preference. Perhaps the thread starter will despise both our oppinions, and I've made jackketchs ears bleed with music that I myself deem as awesome.
Generally its good to stay away from sad music unless you're having a blood letting day, Ie one whre you want to cry like a little bitch and then move on.
Having said that, I dont think I'm geared towards happy happy music after a breakup, I think hearing people go "loev loev shine!!!!" would make you vomit.

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
All of 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields! :D
Um, Mirah's done the job for me before, along with The Mountain Goats, Blonde Redhead, The Weepies. American Analog Set are kinda doing it for me right now.
Most of those bands had significance in the relationship they helped me get over sooo they might not work for eerybodies. ;)

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
Yeah I didn't mean any offense yoyo...
It kinda also depends on what kinda breakup it was. If you're angry as hell at the girl/boy you may enjoy angry/screamy music.
Personally I was just sad that we had to go out own way and that we wouldn't make any more great memories, I just want sad music and to wallow in selfpity :P
And also I can't really listen to a couple of the songs I listed, cos I pretty much chose to break up... Which really limits your options :/
And yeah I like AFI, even if I think it's a bit silly how they'll all wear matching outfits to concerts and shit. Still there's no denying they know how to write a good song... Man, praising AFI on totse, this is flammable shit :P

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
I know it's over by the Smiths. That song made me cry for literally months after a boyfriend I was particularly in love with broke up with me. It's very cathartic, especially the live version on rank you can really feel the pain in Morrissey's voice. Also Red Right Ankle or The Engine Driver by the decemberists. Brake up songs are the best songs in the world.

Not sure if it's too much of a breakup song, but I listened to Epiphany by Staind a couple years back..was very excellent..hell..any Staind song is good during a breakup/depressing period. I also like Nickelbacks Far Away.

My absolute favorite is 'Happiness is a Warm Bong' by Coyote Shivers. While I rarely ever smoke pot anymore and it's not all that great a song, I've got an attachment to it.

Sex And Violence - Stone Temple Pilots
Not a good song because it cheers you up, but because its not that far from reality. Going from being mad at her, to hating yourself.
Starts with:I used to love you now I don't care
Now I turn around, you're everywhere
So you can chew me up and spit me out
You're just the little bitch I cared about Ends with:I keep my head afloat I'm drowning in
The muddy water pulls me down again
I used to love me but I hate me now
I'm just a little bitch I cared about

I played it several hundred times after breaking up with my girlfriend of 2 years because it was the song we said our goodbyes to. Plus Frank Black is my lord and savior, I'll do anything to get his name out :)

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
"Suicide Is Painless" from M*A*S*H*
Actually....initially I was kidding, but M*A*S*H* actually holds some associations for me, so I guess it works. Not for anybody else, really, for most people it's a song about life being painful, and killing yourself bringing many changes...and somewhat taking an apathetic approach to the results.
For my last break up I think the only music really associated with it was music that I wrote, which also helps you guys out like a flick in the eyeball.
It's been my experience, however, that songs that make you dwell on the relationship or it's deceased status, whether in a turning-off-all-the-lights-and-moping sense or a stabbing-the-wall-while-burning-their-picture/belongings sense, doesn't really help you out; it helped out the artist that wrote it because they got to purge all of their emotional nausea.
Therefore I say it's better to listen to music that will remind of you of things that are enjoyable in life that don't require your ex at all, and may be something you can partake in because of their absense.
Sex...drugs...rock'n'roll....camping with midgets. Whatever blows your skirt up.
Of course...I'd saying writing the music helps a lot more than sniffing enough blow that a sneeze could be construed as intent to distribute, but artistic endeavors aren't for everybody. And nobody should have to put up with terrible music everytime some wanker has a heartache.

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
This is when people's true musical taste comes out. You know why? 'Cuz no one who would exclusively list "emo" music. No one who exclusively listens to emo really knows how it is to deal with a break up, or are too consumed in their own self worth, and the value of their pain.
And no one who's true base of music is "emo" has experienced music.

Re: Songs to deal with a break-up.
Some of the best advice Ive heard, evar!! I never looked at it like that. Next time I get hurt, Im gonna listen to....I dont know, I dont have happy music, but Ill try to find something.
