I say go for it. I've had this happen a couple times, and only once did it end badly.....but that was after my buddy was in a bad car crash, had serious brain injuries, was never the same person, and was a complete ass after that.

There is an important point here nobody else has mentioned. The OP said these two went out for 1 1/2 years. In that time the OP more than likely developed his OWN friendship with the girl. Now the couple breaks up and he is supposed to just diss a legitimate friend that has been around for all that time?
