Default Viewer Stats collected April and August 2007

meh, figured I'd share this data rather than let it just sit on my harddrive.
I became interested in the patterns of totse BBS use when usage numbers appeared alongside the forum names. I made an Excel spread sheet in April and tracked the numbers for a few weeks. I just did it again recently when the numbers took such a dive. I didn't add the new forums.
Jeff may have webstat trackers that do this much better, but I saw what I wanted to see doing it this way.
Here's a link to a screen shot, if you've any interest:

What I found most interesting is how strong IFIOTW was usage wise, typically twice as many users as SG.
BLTC was way stronger than I thought.
I guess I shouldn't have been surprised about how strong S&A was.
E*NIX had a strange run going in April, jumping from an average of 5 users to over 100 in one day, and then maintaining those numbers. I suspected some a-hacking. not sure. It's back to normal now.
Anyway, too bad I missed recording the last days of July when it hit over 2k users.
I'm sort of surprised how the numbers are so far down now.
206 users this morning (83 members)?
Is this the same tracking system as was in use in April?

I have always been interested in social statistics. I made an IRC bot to keep track of such things on my irc channel as well. Nothing invasive, just who talks the most, joins the most, gets kicked the most, and stuff like that. I'd be interested in learning how many posts each forum gets per day (on average) and what the average thread length is (excluding things like the porn thread).

Does VB not have built in stats of any kind?

SMF does, even if this isn't built in, there is no doubt a mod released for the purpose?

Yeah, I commented on this last week. I guess we really don't know if this traffic level is unusual, since we've never had this data before. Who knows how long it took for Totse to get back up to "full steam" after the server crash of December 2005-January 2006?

Very cool spreadsheet.I dont know what it means but it's cool.

Here's the thing though, if a forum has 50 regular posters, does it matter if those 50 are the only traffic that forum gets?

Probably not, since one rent check covers all the forums.
Personally, I feel as long as info is being actively exchanged amongst the interested, the forum is doing its job.

edit: Just look at this forum with ~90 posters as an example.

Haha, now that I think of it, school beginning again probably has a lot to do with the decreased amount of traffic on Totse. Sort of refreshing, actually. :)

Well...A load of people wanna just generally chat about shit...A load more wanna watch dumb shit on the internet that people have found...And there seems to be an abundance of horny teenagers and people who wanna get high cheap.

But hey...We all knew that stuff already right?! :p

Nice spreadsheet though...It's interesting to see the stats for the site...Maybe there should be some script or something that tracks it over the month for...Some purpose or other.

Anyone else find in odd that BLTC has had well over 200 viewers for the last two nights, and no other forum is close to cracking a 100?

Crackhead invasion or what?

Yeah, the numbers of BLTC lurkers can be surprising.

Regarding such observers as being part of a decline, well, that depends on their drug of choice.
psychedelics used as a mind expanding tool do not necessarily imply a decline, IMO .
