Default pregnancy tests

leading on from another thread, this got me thinking:

anyone had any false results?
do you have to wait two weeks from when the 'event' happened?
any difference between brands?

stories, comments? i've never had to use one before. i'm clueless. i don't need one now, but i'd like to know this stuff in case it happens in future. and before people tell me to google it, i want to hear your personal stories/views, as well as the facts.

I've had no experience with pregnancy tests, but if you're pretty sure that the guy came inside of you and you're worried, you should immediately go out and buy Plan B (or whatever it's called in other countries).

Simply go up to the pharmacist, explain that you need a post-contraceptive and they will gladly help you out. I've had several gf's and friends use this product and have had no problems whatsoever.

I dont get why you'd wait 2 weeks between thinking you were pregnant and taking the test.
That seems like wasting vital time that you could be using to scramble for the morning after pill/abortion advice.

2 weeks? I'm pretty sure thats not how it works. Usually, they only work during the time you were supposed to get your period. Basically, if you have sex 2 days after her period, you have to wait 28 days to test. They have early response units that can detect pregnancy hormones like 5 days before a missed period, but thats the soonest as far as I know.

And a side note that may be of interest. This is unconfirmed, but it's what my girl told me. And she's a nurse so I have some faith in it. Plan B works by preventing the egg from becoming fertilized. If you happen to have an accident during a period of ovulation, then theres a fair chance it won't work. As it is, I think the box says that it only stops 7/8 pregnancies, so it's important to skip that three day window bullshit and take it as soon as humanly possible.

Well I dont get periods but the time I've taken a pregnancy test was still effective. And correct.

But I'm terrified of Jack, so I'll force myself to bite my tongue... Just know that it's killing me... Slowly... Like a cancer.

i thought the idea behind waiting two weeks was so that the hormones or whatever that cause a positive reading are strong enough to cause a reading. if you take a pregnancy test the day after the condom breaks, you may not have enough of the pregnancy hormones to cause a positive test, but in a fortnight you would.

i guess if you don't wait two weeks you run the risk of getting a negative response when you are actually pregnant though.

^just my thinking, no idea if it's right

False-negative results
Sometimes, a woman may be pregnant but the home test kit gives a negative result. Common causes of false-negative results include:

* The test kit is used too early in the pregnancy and hCG levels are too low to be detected. Most test kits shouldn’t be used until your period is at least seven days late.
* The test is incorrectly timed. Use a kitchen timer or a watch with a second hand to be sure.
* The test is used incorrectly.
* The woman drank lots of fluids before taking the test and diluted her urine to the point where hCG levels are no longer detectible.
