Default TOTSE Acronyms/Abbreviations No Longer Allowed

I just tried to use the abbreviation QFT (Quoted for Truth) over in RFA when quoting someone else. I was being told I wasn't allowed to post a message less than 5 characters, so I typed out the words. Is there some reason that the old TOTSE abbreviation is being stopped in process?

minimum character limit prevents blank posts and the idea is to force people to type out their thoughts instead of just quoting something and saying nothing.

I think something like a 15 character limit would be better for that, because now people just do 12345 or QFMFT or 5char.

15 character limit seems a bit much.

Maybe, but if the goal of the character limit is to increse discussion, then it would have to be higher than five. I was just throwing out a number.

I don't think increasing the limit is really going to help, because people will just add more ampersand-pound-thirty-two-semicolons.

I think the five character minimum should be disabled entirely.

I agree with this actually. I don't think any character limit(though something drastic like 100 characters I've seen used on political boards before) will encourage the average totse user to add more thought to their posts.

I say keep the limit as is--who needs someone posting "LOL"?

It does bug me a bit when people just quote something someone else said and just posts "5char" underneath it.
I know at times what someone says is very good point and worthy of repetition, but you should add your own oppinion to that. And when someone quotes something utterly asinine and stupid and then someone else quotes that and so on and so on..

Personally I've always had a love for threads where the OP would post a completely terrible thread but it would spread to 3 or 4 pages of people only quoting the second poster who said "You're an idiot."

I felt it was one of the more funnier things about TOTSE.

I don't really like the limit, so don't up it even more!

I think 5 characters is more than reasonable. I'd say that 15 is a bit much (but I like the idea behind it).

Aye, stuff like that always made me laugh :D

I do understand the reasoning behind the minimum though.

That can be entertaining, but when a real, serious, and interesting thread gets fucked up by that sort of thing it stops being funny.

The limit only affects those who haven't already figured out how to blanc-post.
