Default 4 Years Ago Today...

Found me living in London with a beautiful, intelligent woman who adored me, I had more money than I needed, and we were planning to leave this shit hole of a country and go move to somewhere where they have that 'sunshine' stuff.

And I gave it all up to come back here to poverty and the cultural and culinary diaspora that is Norfolk inorder to keep my kids safe.

Today's the anniversary of my 'legendary' (in my family) return. Youngest Son sent out the Bat Signal and Noble Sir Jack sped back from London upon his trusted steed, well actually a Saab 900, and evicted the 'new dad' at 3 in the morning , with much promises of violence and smitings should he ever come near my kids again (go figure).

Made up with the wife..kinda..sorta.

So today's the day each yearI navel gaze, while scrubbing walls with Sugar Soap (Ask your dad).

Yes I made the RIGHT decision, kids come first, no question.

But...

Ain't much comfort somedays , you know?

At least you know that your kids come first. That's really all that matters. They are your pride and joy.

Yeah, but at least he didn't. A lot of blokes (and women, for that matter) probably would have. And at the end of the day, we're only human, it's natural to wonder what Might Have Been.... Take comfort in the fact that you're there for your kids, who need you.

Oh, and Norfolk aint so bad! Ok, its not great, but I'm sure there are worse places!

I got the impression that when he was considering 'abandoning' his kids that to his knowledge they were healthy and happy with "new daddy". But in the end he went back, and thats what counts. But that doesnt fix the fact that that bitch still has his teddy bear.

So the only difference between then and now is that the lady might not be as adoring. Is the money different? If you were making good money then, why are you not making good money now.

And if you are still making good money, why can't you plan to leave that "shithole" of a country?

It's good that you went and did the right thing for sure, but it's not like you have to put your life plans in the toilet or anything.

Sugar soap..

*shudders*

It feels sad that you had to give up your happiness for your childrens sake.
I dont think I would or could do something like that, I've a selfish streak a mile thick.

Yep sure did. Only jackketch could make a thread about a teddy bear or worms (one of my better threads of late).

.

Because there is no market here for what I was doing in London (house improvement/decorating/ground work/plumbing). There I was in the 'Black Economy' .

There's a lot of dads who wouldn't have mate. The fact you did leave comfort and wealth behind to make sure you were with your kids shows a lot of moral backbone and loyalty to those who call you dad.

There are plenty of times in life where, given the chance, you'd make the exact same decision yet you still feel deflated.

It passes, as you well know.

Have a pint for me sunshine...Here's to you and making the right decision.

you're a good dad then.

Social services broke up my family and I didn't see my dad for a couple years and when I did I threatened him with violence/jail. I'm pretty much over that shit now though...point is my dad was an alcoholic deadbeat piece of shit who had no way of reconciling and you goin back to your family warms my heart which is normally as frigid as yoyobeks vage.

4 years ago today I was probably stuffin coke up my nose with a bunch of people who'll probably abandon any kids they have. losing a dad really screws up boys. It makes them more assertive and influenced by other people. They're probably like 10 times more likely to pack a heater too.

If only more people in society realized this... we wouldn't be going through such hard times.

Kids get abused and neglected... they grow up to abuse and neglect their kids... etc. etc.

It's a vicious cycle that has no signs of stopping in my day and age.
