Default Broken Heart

So anyone have any advice on how long this damn broken heart syndrome is going to go on?

My girl and I broke up in June and it still feels like there's this terrible empty spot just below my heart, right around my solar plexus.

Three months? Six months? A year?

This won't go on for the rest of my life, will it?

Once you stop caring about her. The bitch left you because she obviously didn't care about you enough, get over it. She isn't worth it.

You need a fucking hobby.

All the booze and drugs will get you is hungover, a headache and still heartbroken.

A hobby would take your mind of your ex and the longer you go without thinking of her the easier it will be to move on.

P.S. Move on, finding a new girlfriend would help too.

Going out, getting drunk and getting some more chicks helped me.

Also the whole "She don't care, why the fuck should I?!" thing got me through.

I think there's no way you can really put a time limit on these things.

For me personally, it just hits. One morning you wake up and you're fine and ready to completely move on. I can't say there are really 'stages' to getting better, so to speak.

Focus on you, if that helps. Remember you deserve to be happy as well. You broke up and it sucks but it's done and most likely nothing's going to change that. Immerse yourself in what you love; your family, friends, hobbies, work, whatever. Spend as much time as you can making yourself feel good.

Drugs/alcohol can help pass the time, sure. But don't rely on those things only to try and get you out of this slump because in the end you'll probably feel worse for wasting your time.

There's probably nothing anyone can say that's going to make you feel better, really. Just remember that it'll pass soon enough and when it does, honestly, you'll probably look back and think 'what the hell was the big deal?'.

Just get on with life. Almost [almost] no one in this world is worth wasting your life over being sad and depressed.

6 months. That's how long it took me both times my heart was ripped out, spat upon, smashed, stabbed, juggled with a bit then put back into place.

6 long, long months.

Well, I'm pretty sure that I'll never be truly loved so I stopped caring.

My hearts been stomped on so many times It's getting stupid.

I'm stupid for letting my guard down though.

Stupid girls and their being all...lovable.

You will probably always have small feelings for her. But you will just have to move on, when you think about her, quickly think about something else.

A few nights with your mates, hitting the piss and chasing after lovely ladies should cure it

the best way to get over a girl is to get under another one ;)

i had a bad breakup when i was younger and it took about 2 years to feel better. a lot of the pain is your lowered confidence and busted ego, i fixed it by seeing my friends and getting shitfaced on weed and booze

tbh time is your best friend. see your friends and try to bang as many random chicks as possible until you feel ready to move on.

and dont keep calling her, every time you speak to her will just reset the clock

Marijuana. Buy a half ounce. Smoke the whole sack to yourself over the next couple weeks. Then you'll be just fine.

It will hurt forever if you let it.
To be coldly truthfull, you'll probably feel like crap every time you think of the breakup, but the pain will weaken as time passes. And eventually you'll be able to shove it to the back of your mind and forget about it most of the time.

One thing to remember, you still have your life. She couldnt take that away from you. And you have your freedom. So never give up.

You know how jedi's act? Do that for a few months. It worked for me.

No assholes, I didn't jump around with a lightsaber, I just tried to be dispassionate and avoid strong emotions, while trying to maintain equilibrium. And it showed me what I needed to do.

I know this won't contribute anything to this thread, but this has to be one of the nicest things I've ever seen posted on totse.

Either way, yoyobek is right, your still breathing, so you can only push on and make the best out of life for yourself.

Dude I'm in exactly the same situation as you. All I can tell you is that it does take a long time and no matter what the doc says, don't start taking no god-damned pills. They just fuck things up a whole lot worse.

Try talking to people about it, your friends and family. It's good to vent on here but we're not real people to you, just words on a screen. So instead of bottling it all up, talk.

One thing that I've found is helping me is talking to her. It's helping me to hate her so that I can get over her. By talking to her and seeing what a bitch she really is I can start moving on by wondering what it was that I ever saw in her in the first place.

They tell me that it'll pass, and it probably will but you and I can't see it yet. Meh, just give it time and take out your frustration on some n00bs.

Thanks everyone. Some good advice here. It really, really helps to know I'm not quite alone in this situation.

I'm pretty opposed to medicine also, but the counselors I'm seeing think it might be the best course of action. At least the appointment for a shrink isn't until the end of September (I'll actually be 23 by then!!) so it gives me plenty of leeway to see if I can start to feel better.

I might rant and rave here more, once in a while.
