Default In this scenario, what would be the best way to respond/react?

Let's say that I up and decide to tell a certain girl how I feel about her, becuase she's going away for a lil' bit, and I don't want her to think that I'm not interested. Given that I don't honestly know if she wants, much less, cares for any type of relationship. The scenario in my head plays like this...

Me- I know you're leaving in a couple hours, and you probably won't be able to talk much over the next few months. So I just want you to know that I like you and would love to see a more than friendly relationship grow as a result.

(or something like that)

Her- *silence*

Me- Yeah I know this is sudden and all, but I just want to be content in knowing that you know how I feel about/for you.

Her- I really don't know how to respond...

Me- That's fine....you don't to say anything in regard to acceptance or denial....just so you know...again...

Her- ok then. *starts talking about how hyped she is about her trip*

This is what I keep coming up with based on how I know this girl.

IF all of the above did come to pass....would this mean that I've pretty much screwed myself? Given that she didn't say " ewww no" or anything....would I still be doing well, or would pulling something like this be my undoing?

Much obliged! (as usual :))

Ah ok

And the problem would be my telling her all together, wouldn't it? Not just her assumed response or the way I would say it, eh?

Go for a more calm approach. Just be like.
I know you are leaving in a few hours, but when you get back I want to spend more time with you, would you like to go out to eat when you get back?

Shit like that never goes like you think it will.

God knows, the number of times I've had some brilliantly nuanced speech ready... Never fucking used one, though.

I reckon it'd be something more like this:

Me: I know you're
Her: Oh, hey, wait a sec, my phone's ringing
Her (to phone): Hi, uh, no, not yet... oh, running out of battery! By- Oh, it's dead.
Her (to you): Sorry, what were you...?
Me: I know you're leaving in a couple of hours, and-
Her: Oh I KNOW! It's so cool! I'll send you all postcards, though!
Me: You ... I, uh, I know you won't be able to, uh..
Her: I'm really going to miss all my friends. Joey, and Johanna, and Jane, and Joey... and you, and James, and Joey, he's so cool.
Me: Uh... Yeah.

It's a dismal vision, but it's highly reality-based.

And believe me, nobody ever says "I would love to see a more than friendly relationship grow as a result" or "anything in regard to acceptance or denial" out loud.

Go for a more calm approach. Just be like.

That seems like a better thing to try, though.

i COMPLETELY agree. I've had this happen sooo many times in the past that its so easy to spot. Basically its impossible, or next to anyway, to get out of the friend zone so i'd say just cut your losses

Friend zone. The longer you wait the harder it will be to get out of it. Launch yourself at her. Good luck.

DONT WORRY ABOUT IT.
Default Re: In this scenario, what would be the best way to respond/react?

I'd say fuck telling her and show her in person, if you can meet her one last time in person before she leaves and sign her up. Everyone has heard that bulshit talk saying i like you and so on. I dont believe that shit if i hear it i want to see it in action. Wouldnt you want to see the proof and not just the bulshit talk if a chick told you that?

A girl i know is leaving in 9 days, and we are suppose to hang out a few more times before she leaves, but if i dont manage to pull off anything i still have the private invite(by her) to come stay at her apartment whenever i please. Now did i ever mention to her how i felt saying i like her and such....no not once, i just made it known through actions and other random talk. And i doubt she'd hook me up with the invite unless she felt some motive to do so. Guys just dont seem to realize anymore that this shit can be done without busting yourself out 100% on the girl pouring out your deepest emotions of how you feel about her. That's all I hear anymore from people then like 1-2 weeks later i ask them how its going, girl is either gone from their playing field or they are having a hard time.

*sigh alrighty then...

Just got off the phone with her....it went...well not quite according to plan(not that I had a speech ready or anything). But hell, it sure did go alot like I that it would (1st post)

I pretty much just kept it calm:

(on the phone btw)

Me: So yeah, you're leaving in a lil' bet, eh?

Her: Yup...the plan should be ready to board in a few min

Me: Well, don't go forgetting about us while you're having fun elsewhere. Especially your fav person.....that's me if you didn't know...

Her: *laughs* of course not!

Me: Hey, when you get back, lets go out for dinner? and perhaps a walk? 10 weeks is hella long to not be able to hang out with...

Her (interrupts): That'd be cool....but it's not like I won't call you while I'm gone. (*note* I didn't know she'd be able to call)

M: oh? Cool then...well good....'cause...yeah....I honestly didn't know that you'd still be able to call. but...I'll still miss ya...

H: What are you trying to say?

----

This is where she caught me off guard.
I didn't exactly spill the beans. But, I did say something to the effect of " I like you".
Anyway, she's like "I don't know how to respond" and get this...she starts talking about how much excited she is about her trip...as if she were totally oblivious to what had just transpired little more than five seconds ago!!
Needless to say, I sorta fucked it up, although I came close to a smooth execution(methinks).
Now there's this awkwardness about the whole thing.

What, if any, solutions would there be?. I guess I want to know what I could say to somewhat patch things up.

At this time, I know that I really like her, but I also know that it's highly improbable that we'll me little more than friends ( given my recent screw up)....and I'm cool with just hanging out with this girl. I mean, there are others to pursue.

But jeez...what a royal screw-up of an excellent opportunity

Dont do it. If she is gonna be gone all you are gonna do is think about how she feels about you and blah blah blah. Just get with some other girl

I recommend my own personal approach: don't relent until there's nothing left but a hollow shell of a friendship or you wear down her resistance and she decides that it wouldn't be the end of the world for you to put it in her.
