Anyone muslim here?

So, in Basic training I gained access to the Quran and well. It seemed like a very hateful book, I remember reading about holy wars, and how you should fight no believers until they either submit, or live under Muslim law. I think I found it kind of ridicules, and much like the book of Mormon which I also found time to read.

So, any Muslims here?

Really? The Qu'ran I read was a very un-hateful book, advocating a shitload of being nice, looking after people, and never taking war too far.

Looks like one of us got a dud version.

not necessarily. I havent read the entire qu'ran, i must admit that i got bored in the middle (but can you blame me? i'm 15). Anyways, there was one line, which i forget exactly what it was... but it was something along the lines of non-believers are below the believers and Allah doesnt believe in them. Now someone could take this the wrong way and think that it meant non-believers shouldnt be on earth because they are nothing anyway.

i hope that made sense... i've been out of it for like 2 1/2 months now coz i've got glandular fever... so if you want me to explain it better then jsut ask

Abu Juhaifa said, "I asked, 'What is (written) in this sheet of paper?' Ali replied, it deals with The Diyya (compensation (blood money) paid by the killer to the relatives of the victim), the ransom for the releasing of the captives from the hands of the enemies, and the law that no Muslim should be killed in Qisas (equality in punishment) for the killing of (a disbeliever).

Hmmm. Yea.I mean, I am in the armed forces, and I would be pissed if someone came in to my counrty to over take my way of living, and I could see how people might take these teaching the wrong way.I would fight against invaders too. Who wouldn't?

And the next sura says:

YUSUFALI: Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty (of peace), or those who approach you with hearts restraining them from fighting you as well as fighting their own people. If Allah had pleased, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you: Therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (Guarantees of) peace, then Allah Hath opened no way for you (to war against them).

It specifically says not to kill those who aren't fighting you. Only in context can you ask if it says to kill the unbelievers.
