Default Young Marriage

Ok my friends apparently gonna marry his girlfriend. He's 19 almost 20 and she's 17 almost 18. What's a good way to tell him he's making a big mistake. Should I tell him its a coin flip because %50 of marriages end in divorce?

How do you know it's a mistake?

You sound jaded. Just because 50% of all marriages end in divorce doesn't mean theirs will. It might, but who are you to tell him what to do.

That age does sound young... but unless you know that they aren't right for each other then you have no right to say that it's a mistake.

Tell him that he needs to work at the marriage to keep from getting a divorce.

Love>Friendship, so unless you have a super good reason such as shes cheating on him or that she's a dude you'll never convince him.

Well social services broke up my family so I probly am a little jaded but everyone I know's been divorced. My friends a heavey metal lookin guy with rings in his face and I can't see him bein too domesticated. I know they do love (or somethin similar) each other but I just don't think it'll happen and the bitch'll take half his shit.

Just chill out dude...He or she will probably lose interest sooner or later anyways. Teenage years are about over-abundant hormones and mistakes.

If he makes a mistake, he makes a mistake...Then he'll learn (unless he's a fuckwit) and he'll be better prepared next time a girl thinks it would be a good idea to get married.

Worked for me...I never wanted to get married, met my ex, fell in love, proposed, broke up two years later and now I know I won't be getting myself into that situation again!

OP I totally agree that it is too young! Though perhaps I am jaded to after seeing.....well pretty much every single married couple I've ever known get divorced. Seriously though, maybe try to convince him or her that they still have much of life to live and people to meet to be sure that they have found "the one" at such young ages. Citing the divorce rate statistics wouldn't hurt either.

LOL! Ya cant! Trust me! I've tried! From subtle, to flat out saying "Dude, you're making a mistake" then explaining why he's making a mistake. My friends getting married in a few months and he's 19, and shes 18.

But on the flip side, I've learned how long they've known each other (4 years), the whole relationship story (like how they broke up a year into the relationship and a few months later got back together), met the girl, and have seen how they really are when they're not together.

And unfortunately, I gotta admit - the two are in love, and for them, marriage isnt a mistake.

So maybe it is, maybe it isnt.

I can absolutely see your point. My best friend since I was 6 (were 19 now) and I have never not wanted to strangle the other's girl. I won't jump to conclusions just yet.

Do they ever fight? How long have they been together?

You should only be worried if they have a rocky relationship.

First off thats not really that young, the law most places allows marriage from the age of 16 and some countries even lower .

IME often the really young ones last best.Especially if one partner is a lot older.

Secondly you wish your friend all the happiness in the world and keep your opinions to yourself. No matter how you try and say it you'll only come across as a kill-joy or a butthurt 'bros before ho's' type.

Hey, if it feels good, do it! But dont snap my undies...

With all them hormones and shit, your teenage years are some of your most intensive.
So its better to burn out than fade away.
But its better to fade away than end up like Kurt fucking Cobain.

Advise them to live together first.

It's allways best to live with someone for a bit first before getting into anything more serious. For one, you can see if you can tolerate their messy habits and their snoring and their obsession with anime and their constant desire for anal sex.

If they can, great!
If they cant, it's good they found out *before* legally becoming binded together and spending alot of money on cake.

If you're trying to convince him not to marry her, ask him if he's ready to be restricted by marriage. Tell him that he's so young, and being married is more than likely going to interfere with his freedom. Meh just how I see it anyway.

Oddly enough couples who lived together first and then got married tend to get divorced.

Just putting that out there.
