first let me say that i love both of my parents greatly. also as some background they are divorced and don't always get along.

my dad has been staying with me and my wife for about a week now. he is a diabetic and has other medical issues, they don't apply to this though, which makes things hard for him from time to time to much of anything without being in some sort of pain. last friday my little brother, he was staying the night too, wakes me early in the morning after only a few hours of sleep since i work nights and says "dad needs you!". i go see whats wrong and my dad is shaking really bad, covered in sweat and his eyes are glassy looking. he is barely able to tell me that he may have taking to much insulin before he goes into a coma like state that i can't get him out of. needless to say i was fucking freaked out since i have never seen him this way before. i call the paramedics and they take him to the hospital. i get there and the doctor said he was going into a diabetic coma and if i had waited any longer i might lost my dad. i take him back home, call in from work and take care of him to make sure he doesn't relapse.

this is the part that pisses me off! i call my mom to let her know whats going on because i still have brother with me and she didn't even care. not even a little concern. she was more worried about whether or i can go get her some money from the bank. at first i thought "maybe it didn't sink in", but when i took her the money she said " you should have let him go instead of calling the paramedics".

right then and there i tell her to shut up and not to talk like that about my father. i was so angry that i basically threw her the money and left without saying a word. i mean what kind of a way is that to talk in front your son about his father of all people. i don't know really how to confront her about this since i don't want this to be something that makes her not want to be a part of my life, she is my mother.

can someone give me some advice.

i wouldn't do anything like that to my mother. i just don't want to make the situation worse by confronting her but at the same time i want to tell her something. double standard i guess

I don't really have any advice to give other then if you find your dad like that again, put a packet of sugar under his tongue then call the paramedics. This should raise his blood sugar levels very quickly and get him out of the danger zone. I'm also a diabetic and the same thing took me from not being able to talk/walk/see properly to atleast being able to speak and get help.

First off you were acting to save a human life. Don't much matter none that it was your dad. Your mother should respect that and understand that her needs came a poor second.

It isn't a queston of how she feels about your dad, thats just an excuse. Plain and simple she's just being a selfish bitch.

Ain't much you can do, just try and ignore her. You were right to call her out on her disgusting behaviour but more you can't do and she's probably beyond all help.

Oh and OP your doc can give you a tube of 'Hypo Stop' or Glucagon -high dextrose rabid acting gel which you keep in the fridge and use instead of sugar. Comes with a syringe and you shoot it into his mouth.

Couldnt have said it better myself :(. The emotional scar that left on me is that Im afraid of every having kids, Im just afraid Id repeat the steps my parents made, divorce, all the yelling and that shit.

i suppose you may be right. i understand that it is between them but it was fucked up to put out in front of me especially when i'm only trying to help.

i just let this be one of those things that as long as she knows not to do it again, if front of me, then i'll try not to much of a problem with their attitude towards each other
