Default Removal of Moderators

Why?

I can't say that I disagree with the choices, but perhaps a quick explanation. They will be asking, to be sure.

I'm a bit dismayed. Sambob and I have had our recent rather hefty differences but i have always considered him a really good mod of OI.

I'm sure both yoyo and NC will also be voicing their surprise.

Bingo. We have a winner.

It had nothing to do with their moderation style or what they were doing in their forums.

I was reading though messages on this forum over the weekend while I was trying to debug the database problems and after reading the 10th back-and-forth bitch-fest between those two I decided that Sambob was right -- there were too many moderators -- so I removed two.

Jeff, would you consider reconsidering your decision regarding sambob? Please? At least in regard to OI?

No one knows better than me that he sometimes went off on a bitch rant but he was a really good mod of OI. Having someone who is a chef IRL as a mod was a definite win for the forum. And a short demodding will no doubt have taught him the error of his ways.

English isn't really my language of choice and sometimes the 'tone' of my posts can seem a bit off so I'd like to stress that this a polite, respectful request.

To be honest I think this is a terrible decision, Sam is one of the most knowledge posters in ...And Rock & Roll, not to mention the fact that he was a great mod and went out of his way to help posters with any number of questions or problems they had. He's been modding AR&R for years with great results, AR&R wouldn't be the forum it is today if weren't for him.

You punish Sam because of Trousersnake's numerous failings as a mod? I'm sorry I just don't understand how demodding Sam could be a good thing.

Maybe Infectedgoose could give his opinion.

But the bitching was way out of control, from both of them, something had to be done.

But removing such a superb moderator from his position in his forum is upsetting. What has OI done to deserve such a loss?

I'll talk about it privately, but i'm not going to attempt to muster the troops for him or bring forward a mutiny against sambob all in the same sentence, which I feel that whatever I wrote trying to respond to this matter was capable of doing.

But the bitching was way out of control, from both of them, something had to be done.

The only reason there was "bitchign" in the first place was because of Trousersnake's actions; he spammed AR&R , he infracted in other mods forums without their permission & the banned of users for no legimate reason, and the fact that he posted things said in M&A in public forums.

Sam was telling Trousersnake nothing that not other mods hadn't told him in private or in here, the only difference was that Sam didn't allow the Trousersnake's action to be forgotten (for good reason) like the rest of us seemed to do.

Something had to be done about Trousersnake, I just don't understand the reasoning behind demodding one of the best mods in order to punish one of the worst.

We're not the owners of totse. The ultimate decisions are not made by us. We're pretty small fish at the end of the day.

Sambob is my friend and he was good for the forum and he was one of my mentors and I hope he's taught me to be a good mod.
But totse isnt mine. No doubt if it was it would be pink and probably awful.
What was done had to be done as sad as it makes me feel.

This shouldn't change anything for sambob, other than that he doesn't have a hand in the moderation of totse.

He can still make threads and discuss things in the same way. The only thing that could get in the way is pride.

This is a solution.

I realize it won't have much of an effect on the moderation of AR&R, because all three of them are good mods, but I enjoyed Sam's contribution here too (other than the arguments with Trousersnake, obviously). It's the principle, really. The fact that a good mod was punished for being argumentative with one who repeatedly fucks up, and makes terrible attempts to rationalize it. He reminded me of a TV 'Bad Cop' with some of his power trips in B&M threads. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Anyone who reads Trousersnake's posts and sees the shit he does can't say that he didn't see that coming. No matter how much he says otherwise, there's no way he didn't know what he was doing. The fact that he was de-modded for the same reason as Sam is crazy. Considering how long Sam has been a moderator (and how much he has helped AR&R and the posters there), I'd think he would've gotten a warning from Jeff, or at the very least an email with an explanation. :/

I would kindly like to ask Jeff to reconsider as well, even though Sam continues to post helpful helpful and interesting threads in AR&R (and I assume eslewhere) as he always has. I just think that someone who has been here as long as Sam could have gotten a warning or a "cut-it-out" email before anyone made the decision to demod him, especially if the reason was his arguments with Trousersnake.

At least half a dozen mods have tried to discuss their problems with Trousersnake in M&A in respectful manner, only to be replied back by his insults and childish "logic";I believe his reasoning was to "keep the bad users from infecting the system". Sam didn't say or tell him anything that nobody else hadn't already said before in M&A, especially after Trousersnake created a thread in AR&R with the sole purpose of starting a flame-war.

So Jeff, I am asking; will you PLEASE reconsider your stance on Sam? Please?

Oh, please. Is anyone not listening? He isn't BANNED, he's just demodded.

Personally, I've seen his darkside enough to be not be dissappointed at seeing this happen. He can be a right old cunt and his narcissism did make for the occasional heavy-handed moderation. I agree that this is somewhat of a solution; take away the power, let him learn how to first and foremost be a good poster.

I know he's (made close friendships) with a few other posters/mods and that obviously they'll be a bit sore, but I reckon the old adage 'time heals all wounds' is a good one and maybe one day down the line Sam can be made moderator again. Obviously this isn't up to me, but I don't think it's too contraversial a call to make.

It's funny seeing people take sides on this issue; this same attitude is what got them both de-modded in the first place. Drop it; such fighting between moderators undermines their authority and makes them look as bad as the common household troll. The least they could've done is make it private and not used totse as their own personal battleground.

Uhm I haven't noticed an real infighting here (M&A) about this yet . Seems most mods think its a good idea that he was demodded and even his friends here acknowledge Jeff was justified in de-modding him.

Some of us just feel he should really have been given a warning first and are ASKING Jeff POLITELY to think about reinstating him, thats all. No biggy.

Oh and I certainly can't be described as a friend of sambob's but i'd still like to see him re-modded for OI (I can't talk about AR&R as I never go that far down the board).

Jeff, do you notice no one is asking here (M&A) for TS to be re-modded?

Of the few things said worthy of responding, this is it.

I believe of anything said, this is the most relevant. And when Sam was demodded for arguing in the forum, it was a surprise to me because Sam was going against one of the things we always prided ourselves on doing. Sam and I have always maintained a dialog in email, and any discussion about moderating and such stayed within that medium. We make it known (to moderators and posters alike) that any problems which should not be discussed on TOTSE should be within an email so our dirty laundry doesn't get aired out on the Message Board.

But as for my personal feelings about sam, i'm keeping quiet.

Infact Sambob has said that he SHOULDN'T be sent a copy of this thread and that it would be wrong for anyone to do so. He feels that if Jeff has decided that he is no longer fit to moderate then he also shouldn't be considered fit to be privy to the conversations here in M&A.
