Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
Not really pertaining to any situation, just got curious about this.
Has anyone ever seen or experienced a case where "taking a break" worked? Where you were with someone; broke apart for a long period of time; and then got back together? Was it awkward?
Like I said before, this doesn't really pertain to any situation, I'm just curious about if it actually works.

more often than not its just delaying the inevitable. but it can work. its usually the exception to the rule though. its worth a shot though. just dont get pissed if she goes and fucks other guys during the break

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
No. The only reason someone goes on a break in the first place is because they want the fuck out!

Didn't work for me, and sadly, it probably won't work for you.
I know you're not going through this, I read your post, but if you ever are in that situation, you have my answer.

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
Yes, but slightly. Break lasted 2 weeks, we got back together. Long period of time? 1000:1 odds to no, people change too much in that time to make it realistic. Yes, it's pessimistic, but don't build up too much false hope. :\

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
Worked for my brother.
He got pissed off with his girlfriend and told her to bugger off to the north of the country and see her family.
So while she's away he gets this hot chick...Way hotter than his girlfriend....He took her home, they had a drink and fucked like rabbits!
His girlfriend came home a week later, they talked and continued with their shit.
That break helped them stay together for another few months until she pissed him off and the cycle continued.
Great times..Great times.

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
It depends on the situation and who suggested it. For example, I suggested taking a break with an ex of mine and she opposed it. However, once I was done taking my break she gladly accepted me back.
It really depends on the feelings of the people and who is the one making the decisions IMO.

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
My ex told me his dear mother suggested we go on a break. Fuck that. I fucked his brother and his friends, almost all at one time.
He is still single, with no friends. At least his mother is there to comfort him...lmao! He was a prick, and deserved it.

Good call. I hate parents getting in any of my business. The worst part about it all right now for me is that my gf is 19 and she still listens to her parents about all this shit, the run so much of her life. I've slowly been weening her off of it, but it just makes me groan whenever she brings up her parents again.
I'm just saying, if you are above 18 and an adult, you can make your own decisions no matter what your parents say.

My current boyfriend's ex also did the same thing, listened to her mother. If you can't make decisions on your own, then maybe you aren't ready to be dating...

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
ive only heard it working once. My friend and his fiancee broke up about a year into their relationship, several months later they got back together. Yeah, those two fuckbirds are getting married 3 years after that shit.
So I guess I'm saying breaks dont work, breaking up does sometimes.

Fuck no, women only ask for a break because their ovaries won't let them come out and tell the fucking truth about preferring that other guy over you.

Sometimes though it can work. Ususally if your the best that girl can get and she tries to date around and gets nothing but creeps then she would come crawling back to you,

If it was just a "break" and not a break up, I would break her fucking neck for that shit. If you want to go fuck someone else, man up and tell your partner. Dont go behind their back and then say "Oh, but we were taking a break, its ok."

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
very rarely ever works...very rarely is it ever 'just a break'... its a break up.
I've used it before to end shit with a girlfriend....
and just recently a girl used the "i need space"/ "lets take a break" on me....
i know what it means when i hear it....
its been a month now...and it looks like we're not getting back together. i dont really want to at this point. Casual sex on the side would be nice...but I dont think that option is on the table.
Saying 'lets take a break' is what people say when they dont want to hurt feelings or just be brutal about hte break up....which i think is more fucked up...when you say that, it makes the person on the receiving end think there is still a chance...when in reality there's a snowballs chance in hell of it ever working out again.

taking a break is... well... i like the idea, but its just worded really badly. it should be called "temperary, sex with other people, time."
if this was more popular i wouldnt view marriage as such a bad thing

few months to step back and get our lives in check.
i think they work better when it's a personal issue, not something wrong in the relationship

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
I would never do it myself, I'd rather work things out.
However, my friend broke up with his gf, for whatever reason (my guess he didn't feel love anymore, but rather got used to being together). Three weeks in he realized he was wrong, they talked and got back together. That was about 3-4 years ago, they're getting married now.

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
Taking a break is a nice way of saying "I've found someone/something else to occupy my time and you'll just hinder my fun and games. Maybe I'll take you back once I've done this, maybe not."

Haha. I got told something like this. That maybe if things don't work out then we can go out again. I told her that unless something happens in 5 minutes theres no chance in hell I'd go for that.

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
Was with my girl for two and a half years. When she found a job she started to become a bitch. I'm one of those kinds of boyfriends where I would let my girl to a party and get shit faced and trust her that she wouldn't do anything bad. Well I'm assuming she thought by that I didn't care about her at all and later found out she cheated on me up to 3 times during out relationship. Would explain why she always called me a cheater whenever the opportunity arose...I never cheated once.
Anyway, the time came where she said "we need to talk." "Lets take a break" is what came. For the most part I could read her like a book and new she had a guy lined up that she mentioned a few times before. I called her out in saying they would be together in less than 2 days after the phone call. Ends up calling me and asshole and I called her a bitch.
Long story short, he or she wants to try something new. You're just plan B should plan A fail.

Re: Does "Taking a Break" Ever Work?
with my last gf, i went to off to college when she was still in high school. we "took a break" when i went away, where if when i got home, we were both single, we'd get back. well, she got the idea i was seeing someone at school (which i wasn't) and ro retaliate, got with a friend of mine. didn't really do anything, but they were 'together'. she hated it, and split up with him. we ended up getting back when i came home for a break, and were together throughout the school yea, and hooked up when i came home. then we split up right before the end of the school year. very strange.
