Default Can People Change?

Do you believe that people can generally change for the better? Or do you believe that it's "once a cheater, always a cheater"? Or that chronic liars will always lie?

I'm pretty sure I've never witnessed a dramatic change in anyone before, or at least not that I can recall. So I'm leaning more towards the belief that people are incapable of changing. At least in most cases that's how I feel, and with humanity having a track record like that, I'd say I'd be more inclined to assume that someone won't change and would consequently have a hard time trusting them.

But I'm still not totally convinced that it's impossible.

How is your faith in humanity?

I honestly don't believe that people change.

It happens, but rarely. Only after some great catalyst and a burning desire to change.

As a general rule though, no. But people do make mistakes. Cheating once doesn't make you a habitual cheater. It doesn't mean thats who you are.

I think people can change if they cheated while young and it's a one off thing. I've put my faith in such people before and it hasn't been betrayed.

People change all the time. But why are you obssessed with "cheaters"? Look, if you're gettin enough at home, why do you care if she's giving a bit to some other pilgrim?

I've never understood sexual jealousy. If you want to make a positive change for yourself, work on giving up jealousy.

Believe it or not, in this day and age, there are actually relationships based on more then sex.

If whales can mate for life, I don't think temporary monogamy is too much to ask.

That's a sad way of viewing things.

i think it is rare that people change. They have to be willing to sacrifice everything to change themselves, and there are few people willing to do that

People can drastically change in many ways.
Just because someone changes every aspect of their life from their home to profession, their skills and their looks, doesent change them inside.

No matter how much I'll change, and I will change alot, I'll still be a horrible insecure nasty selfish little kid inside.

In regards to cheating? I dont know. Humans can be lovely, but they're still scum. I cant understand why anyone would be cowardly enough to cheat, or lazy enough to, but every human is different.

If you find someone you like who's been a habitual cheater in the past, chances are they may go back to that like a nasty drug addiction. But they're worth a chance. People can change.

People change every day.

It's much more difficult to stay the same than it is to change.

Long answer 'yes' with an 'if'.
Short answer 'no' with a 'but'.

Truest thing said in the entire thread.

When I was little I was all like "I wanna have bitchez and hoz"

Then I was in the "I'm looking for love" stage

Then I hit the "Maybe I'm better off just fucking every girl I meet"

Now I'm at the "I'll definitely fuck every girl I see", but at the same time I'm looking out for something more.

So that's just how I changed in terms of mindset towards relationship. I also went from a short chubby kid to a 6'4 bag of muscle. I went from a kid afraid to puff cigarette to a guy smoking weed daily, and I went through so many phases of what I wanted to do with my life.

Hell, I remember when I was stuck on the "I'm gonna find a way to perform magic and be like Harry Potter". Then I was going to be Batman. Then a doctor. Now I think I'm a business major doing pre-law.

I also used to lie all the time. And while occasionally I may stretch the truth, or add a couple of inches to my 15-inch penis, I don't lie anymore, though I may one day.

Really, people are good at evolving, adapting to their environments, emotionally, mentally, socially, and physically. I've changed so much over the years, and I'm still changing.

As Euda said, we change every day.

And yes, I have cheated before, and will cheat again probably at some time or another, I wouldn't cheat my wife, I know that for sure.

It's quite strange that there's a lot of people who think it "unlikely" for people to change.

From the moment we are born we start changing, when we become teenagers we start to change, when we hit our 30s and 40s we change. And I don't just mean we change physically, as we grow older our mindset and the way we perceive the world changes.

For the people that say change doesn't happen, stick around the people you have in mind for several more years, come back and tell me if you still think that people don't change.

It really depends on how big the change is. I was rather refering to changing oneself completely.
