Just take it and walk out...
This is my tip for those who are ignorant.
First off my short backround, I'm 18 and i've worked in retail for 2 years.
Here is my tip: When you steal something from a store, just walk out. The "security gaurds can't do shit. If they tell you to stop, keep walking. You could literally pick up a tv and just quickly walk out. Don't worry about security tags or anything like that. Don't think, just do it.

release a deadly poison inside of the store ventilation system therefor killing everybody in the store, eliminating all witness's and the freedom to walk into a store and walk out with big screen TV's

Re: Just take it and walk out...
I'm going to be traveling around with little to no cash for a while, and this is pretty much how I planned on getting things. From my experience 99% of the time they won't do shit, except maybe ask you to stop.

This is exactly why I laugh whenever I hear about someone being arrested for shoplifting. You literally would have to sit around and wait for the police to show up to get in trouble.

Same here but I'm 19, nya nya nya nya nya nya.
But yes, just walk out. It is against store policy everywhere to accuse someone of theft.

Then why don't you have a living room full of TVs?

If you steal from where I work, we hunt you down. We find out where you live and we call your mother. And then we have you arrested.
Don't steal anything with a serial number on it. We love it when you do that.

Thank you. T.V.'s for instance, have serial numbers.
And although most stores won't follow you outside of the doors/parking lot, some hire cops or security guards, which can(and probably will) follow you off of store property to apprehend you. They could even follow you to your house, if need be.
Not that this is common, it's just that it could happen. You make it seem like you're free to do whatever the fuck you want.

Re: Just take it and walk out...
I was thinking about getting a $100 iHome by just walking in the store, walking directly to the iHome, pick it up, and walk out the door. And if anyone sees me, then run away with it under my arm. Sound good?

Since when you can't scrape it off? Only if you can find it, of course.

On a lot of those items most stores don't take down the serial numbers of things they sell. I know from personal experience Best Buy only records the serial numbers on their computers once they're brought in for customer service.
Tracking things like that is incredibly difficult. You would have to know which serials are on the shelf and mark them as they're bought to be able to know which number was stolen.

I work at a music store, so the serial numbers are printed in the metal/wood. We caught a guy who stole a clarinet because he put it on eBay and he took a picture of the brand name by the tenon and the serial number was visible.
I'd imagine that if you scratched the serial number off a TV or something, it would be immediately suspicious anyway. Fact is, if you steal something, you deserve to be pulled between two trucks until your arms pop off.

Hahaha, yeah fucking right. If a walmart security guard followed me back to my house, he better prepare for a load of buck shot to the face. They are not police, and once your off store property they are powerless. You can be a foot off the parking lot and they can't legally do shit. I mean, they might still try to tackle you, but thats when they get stabbed.

I meant actual police officers. At least, where I live, we have them-- Target has one that sits in front, by the doors.
No, not rent-a-cop. If needed, I'll take a picture next time I go there.
