SWIM got a nice surprise in the mail
Dumbass postman put a nice package in SWIM's box today.
It was addressed to the guy that lives down the street.
Well, SWIM got 2 booklets of season tickets for the Patriots.
Seem like pretty good seats too. SWIM looked one ticket up on some ticket site, price goes from 145-300 dollars.
Well SWIM got 2 booklets full of like 25 tickets each.
SWIM sees that a lot of money can be made using these tickets. However SWIM is weary about selling them for fear of the ticket makers finding him and all that nasty shit.
SWIMs plan is to have a friend sell them for him, but where would SWIM's friend go to sell them. SWIM thinks his friend could go to a library and sell them online.
However SWIM is afraid that someone will see the seat number, then find that the ticket was pronounced stolen/missing by the origional recipient of said tickets and someone will set up a sting and arrest SWIM and/or his friend when they try to sell the tickets.
How would SWIM's friend go about selling the tickets.
Is scalping against the law?
Either that or craigslist.

Re: SWIM got a nice surprise in the mail
Scalping tickets isn't illegal, and I think you're being kind of paranoid about the whole recognizing the seat numbers thing. I think you should wait a while and then sell them on ebay. Just take lots of precautions to avoid the tickets being traced to your house. It's probably a good idea to have your friend sell them for you, but then again you could always scalp them with virtually 0 risk.

Re: SWIM got a nice surprise in the mail
The law actually says whatever arrives in the mail belongs to you even if it was a mistake. You can ask any lawyer this and the reasoning behind it is simple.
For example....
If Best Buy shipped you a 2000 dollar plasma tv by mistake, it is not your responsibility to burden the cost of bring it to the actual own who lives three states away.

Re: SWIM got a nice surprise in the mail
In Dallas we have guys who walk along the highway close to the stadium buying and selling tickets to the people in traffic. You could either retail them yourself or sell them to someone who buys tickets.

Sell them to someone that buys tickets? That's fucking genius lol
There should be nothing wrong with your prize but Craigslist might be the best route unless you REALLY trust your friend and don't mind giving him a cut.

Re: SWIM got a nice surprise in the mail
apparently scalping is illegal if you resell over the ticket value. And these are $125 tickets.
And they also sell like friggin fried twinkies.
Hopefully today SWIM can make the trade.
lol
Scalp me bitch.

turn the tickets back to the guy and get the $20 or less reward maybe if (s)he's a nice person. Its not his fault. But if he's an asshole i'd sell them.

Re: SWIM got a nice surprise in the mail
If your nearby (within mass, ri, or ct) just go to Gillette stadium and sell them. Just research where the seats are and what not. Youll probably be able to get BIG money for those tickets. Is the price printed on the tickets? If so just sell them for that if you want to avoid trouble, youll still be making huge money. Hell, you could even offer to sell them to one of the scalpers, im sure they would buy them.

That's if they were shipped to you, with your name on it. Since it wasn't address to him, it's mail fraud.
You should be all set though, I'd sell them to the scalpers. It's less work and if anything goes wrong, they can't track it back to you.

Re: SWIM got a nice surprise in the mail
Be very careful. I'll give you a warning now, this probably would not work. My dad has season tickets to the Patriots and he told me that if your tickets are lost/stolen, you can report it to the box office at Gillette Stadium or something. They will cancel the barcodes on the tickets you have and reissue new ones. He told me that if you try and use the canceled barcodes, they can arrest you on the spot. Idk if its true or not but it is what i've heard.
However, someone may have a point when they said it doesnt matter because it came in your mailbox so it legally belongs to you. I'm not sure.

This makes the most sense. The guy that was supposed to get the tickets is definitely going to call and say he never got them, the Patriots will say they sent them, they will both conclude they somehow got lost, and I'm sure they can then make those tickets void, and promise to send him new ones for the same seat. Who the fuck do you think you're dealing with here? The team makes a shitload from ticket sales, and season fucking tickets cost a shitload. They don't just let this stuff go.
Best idea is to take the guy his tickets. I don't know if he'd give you a reward because it's just something people do when they get other people's mail by mistake, you know. And if what I assume above is right, it's not like the tickets are irreplaceable. He'll probably say "oh thanks, I was wondering why those hadn't come in yet. Bye."
Alternative idea: Keep them, let your neighbor get his replacements, and wait until football season and sell them on the street to people before games, then get the fuck out of there. When the tickets come up void at the gate, you'll be nowhere around and the guy that bought them from you won't know where to find you.

Best idea so far. Enhanced_logic is wrong - opening mail addressed to someone else is a federal offense in the US, even if it does come to your address. It's not legally yours just because it accidentally got delivered to you. Maybe the laws are different in Dreamland.
Anyway, be careful, because that guy you ripped off will know where to find you - scalping around the stadium the following sunday.
