Default NLP Mirroring

I was watching a vid on youtube last week about "Mirroring", it's a Neuro-Linguistic Programming thing I think, where you mimic a person's gestures when you talk to them.

Like if they scratch the back of their head with their left hand, you do the same with your right hand. It's supposedly meant to make the person feel a connection to you (subconsciously, unconsciously, whatever).

So then yesterday I went to a steakhouse (Texas Steakhouse) and all the waitresses were absolutely gorgeous. Every single one was 100% fuckable.

I thought about somehow trying to "pick one up". I decided not to because they would probably only show interest to get a tip.

But I was thinking, for these seemingly improbable girls, maybe I should try some NLP techniques (used in therapy in some places) to try and make one of these girls sense a sort of connection and increase my chances.

What do you think? Would you ever try it?

I might try it next time I go back there (only place here that I've seen good-looking girls)

People mirror each other instinctively without realising. I reckon all this NLP stuff makes things artificial and fuckedupbollockscunttwatfuck bad memories.

That's quite creepy sounding.

And really, "hey, you scratch your ear like I do!!" isnt foremost in most peoples minds.

I've heard about this to be honest and it seems quite interesting. I might buy a book on it at some point. I also remember that there was something to do with eyes in there, too. Something to do with the direction which you look when you answer.

Seems interesting anyways. It's just another form of body language I guess.

Andy Bernard tried that when he was transferred to Scranton.

It didn't work out to well for him, IIRC...

It's NLP, they don't actually realize that you are doing what they do.

yoyobek, at least wikipedia the shit before making these comments. Foremost thought? The reason is it called NLP, is because it is a way to communicate with someone without having to read their thoughts.

It gives good impressions or bad impressions of the person doing it to you. Maybe your ex did it to you and you don't even realize.

NLP, very very interesting stuff, but don't obsessed with it.

Ive had it minorly done in what id call like the "yawn" action, where its contagious...idk if u could consider it NLP, but they copied my actions....Like just dumb things, when i sit down i always take my phone out of my pocket, sat down with a girl and i put my phone on the table..and she like looked at it then grabbed hers outta her purse and flipped it open then shut it and put it on the table....same girl later on, whilst she was talking i made some heavy eye contact then looked down at her lips then back to her eyes...then when i started talking right after she was done talking she did the same to me, my mind made a mental note subconsciously and it sort of stabbed a nerve like damn she just mimicked me.

Other times like depending on how they are standing or listening i may accidently find myself doing a similar action, like if they have their arms crossed around their chest i may throw my arm out and rest on the table then place my chin on my hand....just a note that they may be trying to find a comfortable position so i guess i pick up on that subconsciously and go into a chill position myself.

If she was copying you, that meant she was interested in you.

If she's copying you it means she's focused more on you than herself.

^^^ Probably both right...im trying to think of some more examples....if NLP considers language/vocal sayings shes ripped off a few of mine...i find it more annoying then like a beacon saying oh shes focused/paying attention to me more then w/e....not with just said example girl above her and a couple more i can think of off hand just use something i just said to them(good material) and flip it around and re use it on me switching a few parts out, its like damn i know it was good but the shit dont work on me like it does you HAHA.

I dont think a girl is smart enough to pull of something of this nature to recognize im/your copying off them..even subconsciously...cause they arent paying attention for it at all

i recognize such things as theyre interested in me, and in no way does it create any more of a connection than that.

if shes not interested in you, mirroring wont do a god damned thing bro. neither will so called power words or patterning. plus, as was called already in this thread, many women will see right through you.

there are a small amount of women who are interested in you, or could be. the best way to get your foot in the door is an appearance of laid back confidence and intelligence.

women, if interested, will give you enough slack to keep things up. if youre working too hard, they arent interested. its as simple as that.

a natural smile and a sincere hi is all the lines ive ever needed.

young guys try too hard with women who obviously arent interested. life will go so much easier once you stop beating your head against the indestructible wall of female indifference.

wikipedia has a section about something called microexpressions. almost every person does it unconsciously. artificial movements and affected imitations stand out pretty big if someones paying a little attention, and women are. trust me.

^^ who says Males cant notice the same shit? Just because some people dont pay attention to shit dont mean i dont.

Some guys do try too hard, and make up all these theories and what not to explain the situation that happened instead of just marking it off as a + or -, too much thinking will drive you nutz, male or female. I myself dont put too much effort on occasions and i look back minorly confused sometimes like this girl is seemingly interested and i barely had to do anything out of the norm, now do i need to make up a new possible 3 letter instance that needs a explanation and a shitload of fuck behind to it make it sound logical and right? NO! Take it for the + , she seems to be interested, not looking for an in depth explanation of a happening of 'human nature' taking place in life. If shit gets shaky or bad for me, oh well then its a -, not looking for a theory to explain what happened. Not saying im against all the scientific stuff, I believe in NLP to an extent and other such stuff but im not going to rely on it, just to use as a reference.

NLP works and it also doesn't work.

If you understand it, REALLY UNDERSTAND it, you'll know how to stay ahead of the game, and how to add to a conversation in a positive way.

If you just know 1 or 2 cool moves, you're shit out of luck. Learn from the beginning, get the basics down, understand it, and then learn the advanced moves, most importantly how and why they work.

If you know exactly when to use which technique, and when to specifically NOT use a certain (or any for that matter) technique, you'll be able to be much more successful in conversations, debates, arguments, etc.

It's a useful communications tool, not a quick fix if you don't know how to pick up chicks.

It's NLP, they don't actually realize that you are doing what they do.

People that actually do that tend to do it deliberately because they think it helps communication and makes them more engaging people to talk to or whatever. I was reading this whole thing about it.
I think Derren Brown went on a course for this to see what it was like and from what he described it's a massive pile of monkey piss.

It really does look quite fake and put on, and he was describing this guy in an interview with someone who was doing it and he said he felt a bit uncomfortable and it was obvious he was deliberately copying him. So it's just creepy really. The only time it's alright is when it's very subtle or a subconcious action because then you'll feel you have a connection with the person.
