A troublesome, yet appreciated, problem....yeah...girl issues
Hey all,
Before I go posting my new, troublesome (yet welcomed) problem with a certain girl, I have one question that will more than likely determine whether or not I should pursue.
Is it ethically (regular ethics and work ethics) correct to pursue (as in courting/dating) a co-woker? I suppose I should really ask, "what do you guys think about co-wokers dating/pursuing other co-workers?" Or should I be like "fuck it", and just go for the gold?
Thanks.

It's just like taking a blow torch to your cock. Not unethical, just a really really bad idea.

Re: A troublesome, yet appreciated, problem....yeah...girl issues
If the only thing stopping you from going for it is the fact you work at the same company, to hell with it, go for it because you might otherwise lose the chance.
How can you tell how long that girl will be working at the company for? What if she's planning on moving away and you'll miss your chance?
Aslong as you're not making out when you're meant to be working, and if shit goes wrong you dont drag it into work time, I dont see there should be any problems.

Re: A troublesome, yet appreciated, problem....yeah...girl issues
I'd say, if you really care about this job or see it as a long-term career or whatever, then be careful. You could end up having to be around this person every single day if things go sour.
There are other reasons too, but overall, I'd say that it really depends on how serious you are about this job.
I've never had a job that I cared about enough to worry about such things, but if I were in something where I saw a potentially long-lasting career, I would probably avoid any internal relationships.

Re: A troublesome, yet appreciated, problem....yeah...girl issues
ACE 1461, I know what you're feelin...and I think we can definitely benefit from this thread.
I work at a retail store. I'm only working there so that I can get experience dealing with customers and/or people skills. I applied for a different job and the interviewer basically tells me that I more than qualify, but I just don't have said skills. So I figure that I can take a small cut in pay in order to gain experience and then go for the money with the other job. So I'm only looking at staying at the present job for about five more months. I would like to be a manager, or some other title, but, from what I hear, the pay is much better unless you're an actual store manager. So while I plan to change jobs after getting the experience, if I ever decide to come back to this retail chain for a higher position, I can do just that.
So I don't really see myself sticking around for THAT long with the company. I don't, however, know how long 'jane' will be with us, nor do I know of her intentions.
Oh yeah....I'm a college sophomore, and I think that she's a senior in highschool...could be wrong though.

Re: A troublesome, yet appreciated, problem....yeah...girl issues
Weird im a highschool senior and she is a sophmore in college, she wants to be a nurse so i know i am not going to be working with her for a long period of time. I think the only reason we arent dating is the age difference, she is going to be 21 and im 17(i turn 18 in December). Is that to much of an age difference, i personally dont think it is. Sorry for hijacking thread OP.

It's cool. I don't see a problem with the ages....but that's just me. I tend to lean more toward older girls. That isn't to say that I wouldn't date a girl my age or a year or two younger ( I'm 19 btw). The girl I'm interested in is probably about 17 or 18. Lemme ask you this, if she did go off to be a nurse, would you still want to be together? Given that the conditions are favorable ( she studies nursing nearby and whatnot).
I know that dating a co-worker is a bit risky, but I don't see this job as any sort of investment. But I still don't want to screw things up. Another thing is that we usually work totally different shifts....I rarely see her at work ( save for when I go in to pick up my paycheck)

Yea i think i would still want to be with her. Its the same with me i just dont want to screw tings up and i see her at least twice a week at work. Im pretty sure im just gonna go for it, although i may just let her take the lead and ask me to do something. Keep me updated on what you do, hope all goes well for ya.

Re: A troublesome, yet appreciated, problem....yeah...girl issues
Because this job is for an express purpose, I'd recommend asking your boss if they'd have a problem with it.
That is, if you're looking for a good recommendation and such things are important to you.
If you don't care, then go for it. It can come back to bite you; yet, as long as you don't care about the job, it doesn't matter.

It's amazing how quickly the breakup turns into sexual harrassment charges.

A lot of people end up seeing their co workers. I have no problem with it, just don't let it cause problems in the work place.

Re: A troublesome, yet appreciated, problem....yeah...girl issues
Yeah, I know what you mean...
I really want to pursue a relationship with this girl, but I still wanna feel her out a bit. I mean, I think that she has a slight interest....so I'll just play it cool and talk to her about stuff. I want to gain her trust. Then, I'll just ask her to the movies or something like that.
As far as my boss is concerned, he said that he doesn't mind having girlfriends/boyfriends that work with us....I don't know if that's the same as pursuing said status with a co-worker, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal. But being charged with harassment definitely something to consider.
