Default Possible Abuse of Rep?

I don't know if this is even an issue, but I thought I'd at least ask.

There is a user who has 6 green boxes. Now since I've never seen a regular user with more than maybe 4 green boxes, I was wondering if somehow this guy abused the system somehow.

And it's not like he's even a good poster. I know many people dislike the guy, who is hardly more than a troll [BTW, the poster is SHH - Satan's Handicapped Helper. So you see why I'm wondering; I know many here also think he's a troll.

So, do you think it was legit Repping that got him there or what?

Should I even have brought this up?

It does seem odd, but many reps are growing at a rate I wouldn't have expected.

There is alot of discreet rep whoring going on.
People will make a worthy thread and then add something at the bottom like "+rep me if you agree with me!!".

It does seem scary how much rep some posters have acquired, and I know there's teams of people who've set up a system of Repping each other as often as they're allowed to.

But, Rep? does it mean much?

SHH seems okay to me, but not 6 points of rep good. But then I dont think I deserve 7 rep boxes (dont take them away just because I said that though Mad ) and there are some posters who are just so awfull, the people who +repped them must be retarded.

If you consider rep whoring to be abuse of the system, then yes, abuse is what got him 6 boxes. If you're talking about some kind of hack or something, nah.

But I thought Jeff set up some sort of algorithm or something to try and prevent such Rep whoring.

I'm not getting worked up or bent out of shape from this [I'm already bent out of shape, but thats due to my condition...:D], I'm just curious.

Yeah, I noticed that the other day.

I found it odd that any regular, much less someone like SHH, would have more rep than some of the mods, considering we were given 375 point boosters EEK!

But I don't think it's really a big deal. I mean, as long as the reputation isn't tied to anything (like when it was first introduced and there was talk of tying reputation to perks), I don't think there is really an issue if someone has oodles of rep, provided it was given "legitimately" (or gamed, but not hax0red).

As long as I get my 7th box before him... Mad

I know this question has been asked before, but what's up with the message "you must spread around rep to others before giving rep to this member again"? I haven't given rep to said person in a long time...

Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)Really? That's odd you don't have it...

I mean, it does come at 600, right?

Or is this one of those "once you reach a certain level, each additional level requires more points" kind of thing?

Oh, the mysteries of the rep system!

Umm... how do you check your own rep? I'm quite possibly the most retarded person ever for asking that, but I have no idea. :(

SHH is a rep whore.

IN HB only, I'm giving 2 point infractions for rep threads.

I don't really care about the rest of Totse and in W&C its not even an issue.

It's not going to end rep whoring, but it will at least drive it underground.

I've only done it three times so far, and the message seems to be sinking in.

I'm not worried if the rep whores find more subtle ways to extend their e-peni.

Rep is the root of all evil.

Rep in a way scares me like my own life does.
It's like, secretly, the end goal is to get all the green boxes, as in life it's an ultimate goal to own the awesome cars and the beautifull old warehouse by the docks of some fantabulous city..

But what then? What then??! Where next?

Another hundred to go. 'tis a long hard slog.

SHH is just about the biggest rep-whore on the site, he makes threads talking about rep and constantly reps people with 'rep-you-rep-me'-type comments. Clifford and The Spirit of Jazz do it all the time too, they're both on five boxes and get all of it from rep threads.

Who'd be dumb enough to do that?
I mean, what's the point?

I like the comment function that goes with rep, it's allways nice to be able to say "hey, I like you".

But if you're just begging for it doesent it lose all real meaning?

I think Jeff ought to reset the Rep for the biggest perps. That would work better than any infraction I think.

as in life it's an ultimate goal to own the awesome cars and the beautifull old warehouse by the docks of some fantabulous city..

I think rep is one of the dumbest things forums have, it might even top the list if I actually cared and thought about this.

I'd prefer it if rep was just disabled, or if at least an option was given.

Meh, I'm pretty much immortal. But the thought of death wouldnt stop me from going "I want I want I WANT!!" every time I see a pretty car. :)

To keep this thread on topic..
Perhaps a one point infraction would be suitable for obvious rep whoring?

Rep has potential, but I just don't think it will work on Totse.

Probably taking it too far. If people want to beg for rep, it's not really hurting anyone. It's really lame, but it's still not hurting anything. :D

How long before the "HAH I HAVE MORE REP THAN MR.HAPPY! THIS MAKES ME BETTER THAN HIM!!" start?

I thought Rep was...well to prove reputation, and show how much respect a poster has.
But SHH hasnt earned any respect, so it's really fucked up.

How many mods neg repping him do you think it would take to remove a few of his green boxes?

(again, joking, for you more serious readers)
