Default Can the regulars see this..?

I was just playing around with the forum software, when I found that by selecting 'Show threads' and then selecting From The 'Beginning' I can view all the threads made in that forum going back several many years.

I was wondering if this was a mod only thing, or if everyone can do this?

It's making me...nervous.

Also, it's great that only mods can see this, but do you guys think it would be a good idea to let posters know that if they want certain old threads gone just to make sure, it was possible?

I mean, I'm allways one to voulounteer to trawl through 700+ pages of threads to select out ones by specific posters, if it will help them.

Actually, I just did a quick check, and regulars can see threads from the beginning.

I logged out and went to BLTC, and was still able to go back 2,433 pages to August 3, 2003, which is the same amount I can go back when logged in...

Why not?

I mean if you're worried that people will start digging up old threads,,,, well that already happened the first week we had vb. Then the novelty wore off. I still see an old one on occasion.

I also infracted some guy for what I later found out was a real old thread [I did reverse the infraction]. I now make sure of the date of the post before I make any such decisions.

What's the potential downside of this?

It isn't like they can bump these threads, and if they're embarassed by what they may have typed a few years ago, then they shouldn't be typing that shit.

I know there are posters that dig through old threads all the time. It's creepy, but I don't see the harm.

Standing by what you've said is always a good thing.

..Yes? Do go on.No, really. :)

Anyhew, I can solve the problem myself for my own threads, but I'm concerned for regular posters who cant really get rid of stuff so easily.

I've spent the last few hours going through all the old threads of S&A, and some people have written some very personal, very upsetting, very delicate things.

I was wondering if a 'self destruct' button might be a good idea after all?

You want to delete and hide your history?

It's who you were and has gone into making you the person you are today, there's no reason to be ashamed. I wouldn't get rid of the stuff that I posted back when I was a regular poster in BLTC. You don't have to take pride in all your actions, but there's no reason to sweep them under the carpet.

Unless, of course, there is a very good reason, but those are few and far between.

As I said, I'm more concerned about regular posters.
You've a good mindset, of what is said is said, but people change. People change alot. And the people people know change, and how they think and feel changes too.
I can imagine if a concerned prying mother accessed totse and read all the threads their little freddie made when he was in his teens, she'd be really devastated.

I guess also there's a concern that when your past comes back to fuck you up the ass, there will allways be someone there to shove it just that little bit further up.

There will allways be posters who will dig up old crap of another posters, keep it, and then persistently post it when the poster they have a problem with does anything to piss them off.

I dont know about your past, but I'm sure if some fucking idiots kept following you through your forums commenting on Lauren or drugs or whatever, every fucking day you might get sick of it. And you'd have every damn right to get sick of it, too.

I'm concerned that these old ugly threads that can be found now could be used to torment and bully posters incessantly.
Perhaps it's protective mother bear mentaility, but it bugs me when I see people getting badly harassed on Totse.

Meh I'm wittering now.

Lauren

Poor Lauren, I hope she's doing better. :(

I'm stuck with the mindset that people should stand by what they've said, but I can understand your stance.

Tell me if you want to edit what I said. I was trying to prove a point but I dunno if you might have taken it the wrong way.

I just found a thread from ages ago when I was talking about being ugly. And some little shit who I was dating at the time posted about how 'beautifull' and 'gorgeous' I was. Whilst all the while in real life he was fucking some bitch.

As life goes.

Not something I want to be reminded of really. I'm hoping the revival of dead threads remains mostly unknown to the regulars.

Just hope it doesent open a big slimy can of worms. For anyone.

Oh, I don't mind being reminded about Lauren. lol. She killed any tender feelings over a period of weeks. I just hope she's doing better with her personal stuff now than she was before.

You said nothing bad and I didn't take it wrong.

Most posters don't know what the search function is or why it would be used. I know that I didn't until people explained it to me. If they wanted to open a can of worms, they would already be open. :p

I agree with this 100%. I actually enjoy reading the stuff I posted years ago; it's nice to see how you've changed over the years, and also to see what about you has stayed the same. :)

Haha, I remember that thread, it'd be interesting to read that again. :D But I don't believe I ever participated; I was underage at the time, and I had a hard time procuring booze (hence the homemade alcohol era).

I get at least 2-4 emails per week with people asking me to delete all of their posts from the beginning because they said some things that they now regret.

The shitty part is that they can't delete these threads or posts on their own because they are within locked threads or posts.

Why don't you make a users old posts password protected? Anything past six months goes into an archive only accessible by the user who wrote them and the super mods.

Something like that would be cool. I dont understand all those old dead threads coming back. An archive option would be great (I havent yet found one if there is one?) but all those old threads are taking up space that archives could use.

Last night was very upsetting. I didnt delete all of them but there's alos of rubbish in my past I didnt want to remember.

I'm sorry that it's upsetting, but don't you still remember it?

Written evidence or not, it's still a part of the life you've lived and the person you are today.

That sucks. I was kinda curious to see what Euda was like on Totse when he was a drunken crazy goldfish..

It's weird that lots and lots of old threads that deserve to die lived, but good interesting threads are unfindable?

It's probably out there, I just can't find it because the search function isn't that great at finding specific threads.
