Default So something just happened to my rep...

Not that I care that much about the rep system, but I noticed just now while I was checking my CP that rep previously given to me has been changed from green to that neutral gray color. As far as I know, the status of the users who gave me the rep has remained the same. This must have just happened; I remember when I checked in this morning, things were fine. Also, my total number of rep points remains unchanged by this.

Sometimes when certain people give you rep, it does not count for or against you. I'm not sure what determines this, but I have a feeling it's got something to do with their own rep. Other variables might go into play, but I think it's all part of the mystery.

The way I read it is that he was given rep in the past, and it was green. Now, those same rep points that were green are showing up as gray.

Perhaps those users who no longer show up as green rep for him have lost their ability to give rep that's worth anything? There are a lot of unknown unknowns in this situation.

That's what I thought at first, but I went back and checked. Indeed, one user who had given me green rep before was now grey, but another user who's rep was "greyed out" was still green. This happened to about 6-7 reps.

Heh. One of them has now reverted back to green status.

Well, then we know for sure that a user's reputation is dependent on the reputation of those who gave rep to them - in a real time equation at that.

Yep. You've got to have a positive rep to be able to influence rep, as far as I know. That prevents people from making accounts just to rep themselves.

Maybe it was rep originally given by someone with positive rep, but then got enough negative rep to go back to the neutral grey color? Perhaps the reputation evolves as the poster who gave it changes from + to - and then back again.

We'll never know..
