I need your help, I run a Mario based fan website ( located here http://www.mariomayhem.com ) and I was hoping you guys could give me some ideas of things to add to the website to draw more people in and in turn generate more revenue. As you will notice I am relying on adsense ads. I also have an amazon store, but that's there more as a source of information (what Mario products are around etc.), so I'm looking for ideas that will generate more clicks on my adsense.

Can anyone recommend some things that will drive more traffic to my website?

I am quite handy with php/sql based stuff, so even if the ideas are a little complex I can probably give them a go.

Maybe you could try hosting a real website, maybe one that isnt targeted exclusively at 8 year olds. And something that there aren't a million of out there already.

I appreciate your candour on the subject matter, this website was just a fun thing for me to do in my younger years, and I brought it back just to stretch my website building skills, SEO etc. It makes me more money then it costs to run, so i'm not about to ditch it since it gives me a lot of fun

- Put it in your sig and go and post on nintendo/mario forums.
- Write more original content/linkbait and submit to social bookmarking sites (digg, reddit, delicious, ect.)
- Comment on related blogs leaving a link top your site
- use yahoo answers to answer questions and reference your site
- Write some related articles and submit them to article directories with links to your site within.

Cheers for the list Vizzini, I have already done most of these when I first started off the site, it's probably about time I did it again.

I was more interested in ideas for link baiting kind of thing. Like the draw a Mario game I have at the moment is great for that, people draw a mario, show their friends, then they draw one too kind of thing.

Ok then. Here's some good ideas that can get you some more hits everyday.

First If you don't know what pagerank is then look it up.

Since you have a Pr2 website you can get link exchanges easier. So sign up at the Digital Point forum and make a few posts around the place. Don't make them spammy though. Once you have 25 go to the BST section and look for the link exchange board. Make a thread there asking for links from entertainment sites and gaming sites. Make sure you say only from Pr2 websites +.

Tell the people you are swapping with to use this anchor text "Super Mario Bros"

You will need a link section on your website. When you ask for links make sure they are placing them on a page with PR2+. Keep a list of all the sites you get links on and check them once a week to make sure the links are still up. You will need to try and 8-12 good links. This should increase your ranking in google for the search term "Super Mario Bros" and possible "Super Mario" which would be even better.

If you can afford to buy some higher PR links like 4-5 then that will be much better. The next Pr update is very soon so you might be able to get a boost if you are lucky. I'm not sure though as snapshots have already been taken I think.

Now you will need to do some one site SEO to cater for your keyword.

Rename the banner at the top to Super_Mario_Bros.jpg also add some Alternate text "Super Mario"

Those little talking GIFS. Rename the mario one to Super_Mario_Talk.gif Also add some Alternate text to them like. The Luigi one "Luigi Bros"

Your link to us button. Add some code below that to make it easier for people to link to you. Make sure you have some good text in the alternate code. Make sure it includes "Super Mario"

Add the words Super Mario to your posts more. If you can make them bold. At the bottom of the page you have the words there, make them bold also.
