Red face Problem with divs containing images and IE

Hi everyone, I am trying to replicate a site a made in dreamweaver by hand coding:
www.rageoholicsanon.freehostingnow.com/index2.html

I am using CSS and divs.

If you look at this page in IE: www.rageoholicsanon.freehostingnow.com/test
You can see that it creates a space in the nav bar between the image-holding div and the nav button divs. I have no margin settings or anything of that sort. I did find one fix which said to use this CSS:
Code:
img {
display: block;
}
This used to work, but for some reason it doesn't now. Apparently I need to stick all my code on one line, which I do not want.

I am also using an <a> displayed as a block to make the whole nav div clickable.

Halp please?

Here is the HTML/CSS
HTML:
Code:
<div class="image">
        <img src="/images/Index_09.gif" width="27px" height="30px" alt="">
        </div>
        <div class="nav" style="width: 94px">
            <a class="navlink" href="/news.html">
                News
            </a>
        </div>
CSS
Code:
img {
display: block;
float: left;
}
div.nav {
height: 30px;
float:left;
}
a.navlink {
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
color: black;
line-height: 30px;
font-family: impact,arial black, arial;
font-size: 18px;
letter-spacing: 2px;
text-align: center;
display: block;
float: left;
background-color: red;
}
